I need to get a new monitor but I can't decide to whether to get a 1080p monitor with Amd FreeSync or a 1440p monitor without freesync. my Graphics card is an Asus Rx480 (I'm going to be gaming and doing some 3d animation in blender)

So with Ryzen out now and some of us building (If your lucky enough to snag a mobo, just got mine so expect reviews to come :D) the argument has been that it doesn't perform well at 1080p. This led me to ask around to find out what most people are gaming at. Feel free to comment below, but I am generally curious what people game at.

Hi all! I’m looking into building a computer for editing video. Right now, I’ll be editing 1080p, but will edit 4K video in the future. I have built 3 computers so far, so I have some idea what to do/look for. I only need to buy the components of the computer, as I have the OS, monitor, etc. I’m looking for suggestions on what this build should be. Ideally, I’m looking at between $1000 - $2000 (Canadian currency, by the way). If I can do a build for no more than $1500 (which is about $1100 USD), that would be swell. Obviously, I live in Canada. Some component ideas so far: I’m interested in an Intel i7, but would be open to suggestions. 16 GB of DDR4 ram, for now. An SSD, either 250 or 500 GB, and maybe a 2 TB HDD I’m not entirely sure if I need a GPU or not. Do I? I’m open to anything, so let’s hear some suggestions! Thanks, all!

I'm looking to upgrade my monitor but i can't find an article with a solid suggestion. what would be a ideal size for 1080p. i'll be upgrading from a 21.5 tft monitor 60Hz. i like a 27 inch viotek but i'm hesitant on the purchase because it's a one time investment i desire to want to make, any suggestions would greatly help my stressed out mind. i appreciate it. budget is between $200-$300

I'm thinking about getting a 1080 since it had a nice little price drop and i can buy one for the price of a 1070. I'd buy it somewhere in the summer because i am still a student and I have no job. What I'd like to know is that a 1080 is overkill for 1080p gaming? I was going to buy a 1060 but i saw that the 1080 got a price drop. Current system specs: CPU: i5 4690K (not yet overclocked because of motherboard) GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 4gb windforce 2 oc MOBO: Asus b85m-e RAM: Hyper x blue 1x8 DDR3 1600mhz Primary monitor: Asus vc239h 1920x1080 60hz secondary monitor: acer x193w 1440x900 75hz PSU: EVGA 600W w1-k2 I will buy a new monitor that is either 4k 1440p or 1080p 144hz. Thanks in advance.

Does anybody know a good budget gaming monitor that is 144 hz, good color contrast, 1080p, and has a very fast response time... like 1 ms? Thank you in advance for the help

This problem began yesterday. At 1080p on High (NOT EVEN ULTRA) I can't get 60 fps, or at least smooth gameplay in for honor. I will link a video below. I have tried it without v-sync, and with both double and tripple buffering. In the video you will see my cpu get close to 100%, but not quite. THis is only because I am recording. My cpu will typically sit at around 50%, while my GPU will sit around 30-40%: meanwhile my game will be in the low 50s and stutter a lot with v-sync, or be from 80-120 and drop A TON of frames. You will see in the video. What is going on? My drivers are up to date.

Ryzen perform very well in multi threaded benchmarks and most of rendering and synthetic benchmarks all across. But when it comes to gamin we are seeing a mix bag, at 1080p it lags way behind whereas at 4K its neck to neck. Is it due at 4K cpu becomes bottleneck and GPU takes over or its just because of optimization of intel is better than AMD ryzen. I also read in an thread somewhere that AMD has reponded to the low gaming bechmarks because games are most often developed kept intel based chips into picture because as we all know AMD was all lost in that market. Also AMD spokes person said that Ashes of singularity and other games patch for AMD Ryzen is yet to launch. So much much improvement do we expect to see ? Will it be enough to disrupt the intel market ?

So I want to get a 1440p monitor for my 1070. I thought of getting the HP Omen 32 monitor but its only 75hz and im not sure if thats good enough. Are there any good monitors above 85hz that is bigger than 26 inches? I dont like monitors with red everywhere btw as its a black and white themed setup. I live in canada so sometimes i cant get certain things.

I was wondering which CPU would be better for gaming I've been looking at the i5 7600, i5 7600k, and the i7 7700 I don't do any professional work other than light photoshop work and gaming on a 1080p monitor. I have an MSI r9 380 4g currently but would like to eventually get a 1070 so I wasn't sure of a bottle neck of the i5s

Hello Internet, Wasn't sure whether to post this here or under the "Display" sub-forum as you will find out soon. I currently stream on Twitch occasional but want to get more into it, however it's an utter ball-ache. Whilst at Uni I use my Razer Blade (Late 2016 GTX1060 4K... blah blah blah) and because of the resolution it is a nightmare to setup with my Razer Ripsaw capture device (when using my second laptop as the encoder) or even running OBS Studio on the Blade. As the 1060 can't run every game at 4K I run the majority of games at 1080p which requires me to change the input settings for the Ripsaw and OBS s it doesn't show "Out of Signal Range"; this means when I tab out of game or change games, the resolution changes and so it shows "Out of Signal Range" again... tab back into a game and it will show to be working again on OBS but the actual Twitch stream would have a frozen image and it would just have the audio. Is there a possible fix for this? If not do I just have to deal with it/buy a 1080p monitor. If the second is the case, when I head back home, I use a 1440p monitor... I was contemplating upgrading monitor anyway but now I'm thinking, do I get a 1080p G-Sync monitor instead of the colour accurate 1440p/4K one I would have? TLDR; Twitch stream dies when I alt-tab due to resolution changing from 1080p to the 4k native res of the desktop... Any fixes other than buying a 1080p monitor? Thanks in advanced

I just bought a 1060 6gb and I can't play in 1080. Although the option is there it looks terrible. https://gyazo.com/85a0b713f4166dfb8f80796b07803ad6 Is it because of my cpu, monitor, gpu?

hello everyone, i have a question to ask perfomance wise outside of EA's SimCity, will the graphics card i have (which is a GT 710 from Nvidia) run any games like World of Warcraft in 1080p?

I'm looking for a 1080p 60hz monitor to run with my GTX 960. I'm living in New Zealand so some options are limited but I'm looking for something around the 23'' mark. Not sure whether to go TN or IPS. I use my PC for playing video games, the most competitively demanding being Overwatch and very occasionally CS:GO, and also for browsing, school work and watching movies etc. Would prefer something under 2ms response time and with HDMI + DVI/Display port. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

All right. I've found someone who would give me an RX 480 4GB version for my R9 390. Which might sound as a bad deal, and might really be. As I've noticed, the R9 390s greatest advantage over this one, and most previous generation cards is the huge amount of VRAM. But since I only play games on 1080p, I'm not even sure if I have ever used more than 5GB. Can RX 480 4GB outperform the R9 390 8GB on lower VRAM usages like 2-3GB? Please stick to the question, I don't care about futureproof or NVidia advantages.

I recently built a new computer and I'm having trouble finding a good monitor for it. I'm willing to save up a bit for it but I would like it to be as low cost as possible. I just want a decent Full HD 1080p IPS monitor with decent refresh rate and HDMI and Display Port. Also, a thin bezel would be wonderful even though im not planning on getting multiple.

I'm looking for a good budget gaming laptop for around $1100 dollars. i have been using an old acer aspire which has a i5 6500u and radeon m265 2gb graphics for four years now and finally have some cash to upgrade to something new. i also intend to do photo editing on this device so i'm looking for a machine with the latest kabylake i7 7700hq with 16GB RAM. I currently have my eye on the ASUS ROG STRIX GL553VD which fits my budget perfectly but there are certain reviews that say its better to wait for other laptops to be released. Are there any laptops in the market that anyone recommends? or is the GL553VD worth buying? or is it better to wait? Thnx.

Hi, I have been a subscriber to Linus Tech Tips on YouTube for a year or so, but this is the first time I have posted on the forums. I am looking to build my first custom PC and want your feedback! The goal for this PC is to game at 1080p 60hz on as high of settings as possible and also be my work/school computer. I have a limit of $1000 (USD) to spend, including the cost of Windows 10, monitors, and a keyboard. The main game I want to play is No Man's Sky. My current gaming setup (a laptop from 2011 with a GTX 540M) technically runs NMS, but gets like 2 fps. Other games I hope to play are Overwatch, Shadow of Mordor, Skyrim: Special Edition, and Mass Effect Andromeda. The main items I am unsure about are the motherboard and how much cooling I will need, so your help with those decisions will be great. Also, pairing the Pentium G4560 with a GTX 1060 feels odd, but would it cause a CPU bottleneck for gaming? Let me know if anything seems stupid, won't work, or is a waste of money. (I am a noob after all.) Thanks in advance! https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Gazelem/saved/GQW6hM (?) Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual Core (4 threads) EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GAMING Video Card 16GB of DDR4-2400 (2 x Avexir Core Series 8GB) Sandisk SSD PLUS 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (?) Gigabyte GA-H270M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 3 (Windowless) MicroATX Mini Tower Case Thermaltake 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (1? 2? 3?) SilenX EFX-08-12 25.0 CFM 80mm Fan Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 2 x Acer G227HQLbi 21.5" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor AZIO L70 Wired Gaming Keyboard Notes I am beginning a 5-year PhD program this year and I likely won't make any major upgrades until after I graduate I hope to get a "Windows Hello" compatible webcam at some point Motherboard needs to support Kabylake without a bios update (I won't have another processor available to update it) I don't plan on overclocking anything I don't plan on using SLI/Crossfire, but the option wouldn't hurt I want two monitors for productivity, not gaming on both My work/school stuff will involve running statistical programs (SAS and Stata) on large datasets I am willing to drop to 8GB of RAM if the money is needed elsewhere in the build I have Bluetooth headphones I will use with this PC I don't need wifi, but it wouldn't hurt I am located in the USA I don't care what the case looks like I plan on sticking with Intel and Nvidia, (Nvintel? Intelvidia?) Edit: For those that asked, I am going into Accounting (with the goal of being an accounting professor). I plan on researching in tax. I don't know what my dissertation will be on, students typically decide in their third year or so. Also, one reason I want to have an Intel processor is for virtualization tech. I dabble in app development as a hobby. I also want to get an intel realsense webcam for Windows Hello at some point, which requires a 6th or 7th gen intel processor, I believe. Nvidia, on the other hand, I am just a fanboy of. If the rx480 8GB is a better deal, I will go with that. Edit 2: Thanks for all the feedback everyone! It has given me a fresh look at my build and helped me figure out my priorities better. Here is a link to my new updated build. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Gazelem/saved/7gLHxr I have changed quite a bit: Upgraded to i7-6700 Slight upgrade to GTX 1060 6GB Only one monitor for now Down to 8GB ram for now Cheaper keyboard different motherboard with built in Bluetooth and Wifi Will use Windows 10 Education key from my university (FREE), upgrade to Pro later if I need it Lower wattage PSU

Hey there! I recently got a new computer, but I didn't get a screen because I have a 19" TV, but it's native resolution is 1366x768. I work as a programmer, and I use a 1440p 27" iMac at work, which is really good, so I'd like something similar for my PC. On the other hand, my friend recently got a not-so-expensive 1080p ASUS monitor which looks incredible, and even more compared to my TV. I like both 1080p and 1440p resolutions, but 1440p monitors are WAY more expensive than 1080p ones. So, my question is: Should I get a nice 1080p monitor and stick with that until I "really" need a 1440p one? If I do this, I'd go dual monitor, even though they are different resolutions. Or should I save up and get a 1440p right away? I'd use the screen for gaming, coding and general internet browsing, as well as some audio stuff. P.D: I've seen some 4K monitors that are on the same price range as 1440p ones. Is it worth it? Wouldn't upscaled content look blurry on it? Sorry if I haven't explained myself correctly. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm trying to decide weather the AOC G2260VWQ6 or the Samsung S24F352 would be the better option for occasional/casual gaming. I tried to find an answer to this question on local forums but nobody Seems to have any experience with the Samsung S24F352 where i live. Besides the fact that there is a small difference in frequencies (60 sam/75 AOC), difference in technologie Ips/Tn and size (23 sam/21,5 AOC), they both support freesync (using RX480). Usually I'm pretty close to my moniter so I don't know if the extra size will matter to much. I really hope any of you may have any experience with the Samsung S24F352 and can tell me if it is any good (or the Samsung S24F350 which are probably pretty much the same i geuss)? I hope you may be able to help me decide which one would be the better choise for me. Although my native language isn't english I tried my best to make it understandable and easy to read. If I made any mistake feel free to correct me. regards Techninja

Hello, if someone could take a moment to look over this build, it would be greatly appreciated. My Build Some games I am probably going to be playing on this pc are: The Witcher 3, L4D2, GTA5, Overwatch, and Skyrim. Are there any parts I should switch out for better ones and still stay within about a $530ish budget? (Budget of hardware, not including OS)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XCCRJWS? This seems like the perfect cheap monitor for an rx480 build, considering 60-75fps 1080p is what the rx480 pushes in demanding modern games. The only problem is I cannot find the input lag for it listed. I tried to research it and cannot find this monitor anywhere else not even on the Dell website when searching with the model number.. I am doing a build for my brother and want him to have ips and free sync, trying to keep the build under 800 with pc, monitor, mouse, keyboard. Also does anyone know how I can get windows 10 cheaper? I just bought a copy for my own pc does it come with multiple codes? Thank you!!
