  1. It would take a lot more than a gtx 460 to be bottlenecked by an i7.
  2. That should be a great config. It will run much more powerful graphics cards for you later too.
  3. well the 4790k would be a big boost for you, but if you are replacing the motherboard anyway you should probably just wait and upgrade everything for a more even experience. The extra cores that ryzen offers would be useful for media work.
  4. It would be cheapest to upgrade to a 4790k. The extra cores would definitely improve your gaming, and if you have the motherboard for overclocking it that would be ideal. However even at stock speeds (that 4.4ghz boost clock) it's a pretty powerful processor. I am still running mine undervolted to 1.175v at 4.5ghz and it runs everything I play without issue at all. My GTX 980 is honestly more of a bottleneck most of the time.
  5. What an obscure and terrifying reference your avatar is lol.
  6. It's a brand new platform, give it a few months. I am personally waiting to see if Asus comes out with an strix variant of the am4 platform like they have on intel.
  7. Honestly the best price to performance ratio I have seen is r9 290's on Ebay. In CAD they are like 200 dollars-ish in usd that would be...140-150? Pretty solid performance for how much you are paying.
  8. I noticed right after I said it that I was wrong lol. I apologise. For some reason I wasn't factoring in the content creation thing.
  9. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/gJ79vV Remember to look at the original total, my pcpartpicker includes tax for my own purposes so the build before tax is actually like 380.
  10. This is going to be in CAD AND including tax. I would never pay over: 400 for a cpu 150 a cpu cooler 250 for a motherboard 150 for ram (16gb) 300 for a large ssd 60 for a hard drive Graphics cards are wild 250 for a case 130 for a psu 500 for a monitor 200 for a keyboard 100 for a mouse 100 for a headset
  11. I don't think he is required to cater to your minor annoyances, much the same way I would not bother worrying about people looking at it in the night theme because it's really more your problem than anyone else's. It's a bit like being angry that you bought a mac for gaming, and then find out it can't play that many games, so you yell at apple... Because YOU bought a Mac. Furthermore I don't know why you would expect ANYONE to bother dealing with your frankly trivial request when you decide you are going to attack them after they put so much effort into their work in the first place. What is stopping you from changing back from the night theme? You know, I find it funny that you would take the time to leave all these complaints, but you can't take 5 seconds to fix the problem yourself. Wait, where have I heard that before...
  12. You made very clear concise points that made a lot of sense here, the only thing I would change is I would have used steam. As I think more users on average are steam users realistically.
  13. I don't know if anyone has said these yet, but my i7 gets pretty up there with hyper threading turned on ( I know hyper threading doesnt equate to real cores but you can tell that its using more than just 4 cores without hyperthreading when playing): witcher 3 gta 5 civ 5 and 6 in some high AI calculation situations ashes of the singularity Cities skylines granted an i7 will handle these pretty well.
  14. Hmm maybe I need to do some research into it then. Get myself some education
  15. I am sorry to say but I think you are out of luck, you can't really replace laptop parts. Well you kind of can, but you need exactly the same cpu and exactly the same gpu and then the actual technical know-how for soldering it properly etc. etc.
  16. No problem, and honestly I would get both. that thing is not going to last you very long if you decide to play anything other than minecraft.
  17. When you drop below 60 fps v-sync will try to compensate by dropping to the next refresh rate, which is usually 30hz. if your frame rate keeps going below 60 fps intermittently you will experience jumpy frame rates.
  18. No worries, as far as I have heard I think there will be a 4 core 8 thread $250 i5 competitor, the $350 i7 obviously will be 8 true cores and a $500 offering of an 8 core 16 thread processor. I am not sure what is competing with the i3 but I have a feeling it will be just a quad core.
  19. I think it might be time to get a new CPU. as that one is pretty old. Zen is coming out next month though, so maybe wait for their offering, as our information about their lineup says we will probably get an 8 core i7 competitor.
  20. I mean, it will work. not as well as the one with hyperthreading, but general tasks is what pentiums were built for.
  21. http://pcpartpicker.com/product/8gKhP6/intel-pentium-g4560-35ghz-dual-core-processor-bx80677g4560 This should do you pretty well. its got hyper threading
  22. There are rumours that intel is going to be coming out with an i5 with hyperthreading to combat AMD's new stuff. I don't normally put much stock in rumours, but I think in this case, with zen looking so promising, it's entirely possible. That would be a very attractive sweet spot for gaming for you. But again, its a rumour so take it with a grain of salt.
  23. I've used it a few times. It hasn't given me any problems.
