Still an issue currently, anyone have any suggestions?

For the past few weeks my computer has been staying at a blank screen (no signal to monitor) after turning it on and then it turns to an overlooking failed screen. If I press f1 for the option to run setup, it will normally work after 1 or 2 tries. I did some troubleshooting and have discovered it only does it when my wd black 2TB hard drive is connected (OS is on ssd). The motherboard reads error code 78 which is the code for acpi module initialization. Help would be greatly appreciated! Current specs: Asus z97 pro 2x 8gb corsair vengence Evga gtx 980ti Intel 4690k Wd black 2tb 250gb 840 evo Evga supernova 1000 G2

I recently started mining ETC on my gaming pc just to get my feet wet in the world of cryptos (and linux). I installed the nvidia drivers and got Claymore's dual miner to start mining, but was only getting about 10.5 MH/s on my 980ti. I attempted to install CUDA to potentially increase the rates, but was not able to get it to work. Yesterday I came across this post in the mining sub-forum: It seemed promising so I followed the instructions posted. I managed to get to the point where I just needed to set up the xorg connection, but ran into some issues. After entering: sudo apt-get install build-essential xserver-xorg p7zip xorg-dev libgtk-3-dev xdm into the terminal, I was met with this response: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done build-essential is already the newest version (12.1ubuntu2). Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: xserver-xorg : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.17.2-2) E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Now my system is not picking up my graphics card and I'm not sure what to do from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks, I have it downloaded but I still do not know what it's purpose is or how I need to use it in the process of setting up my rig. I got this error when I was installing the cuda drivers: ( sudo: ./cuda_9.0cuda_9.0.176_384.81_linux.run: command not found ). any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with SSH client. Is it just a program that allows you to remote access your rig? Is it necessary for setting up the miner? If so, how do you access the client to input that cd $home line?

Honestly its hard to tell with this crazy political climate we've had over the year. I will say that the amount of back-lash that it has received is quite promising. A few years ago it seemed like the people who actually cared were just "techies" and large websites. This time around, there is a lot of what I would consider mainstream following of the issue, which is great. Many celebrities have come out and shown their support. Also there have been some recent reports that millions of the emails that the FCC has claimed are from US citizens who are in support of removing net neutrality are either from dead people or russian emails... It's a very sad situation that clearly only benefits the ISP giants who have the FCC politicians in their pockets. I hope that there will be enough backlash from people that they will have no choice but to accept, but only time will tell. I sure hope for the sake of a free internet and our futures that this will not happen.

Hmm, does the difficulty effect the actual rate at which you mine? I was always under the impression that your rate stays the same, but the difficulty effects how long it takes to find shares/blocks. I also tried switching to a different pool as well as switching to ethereum instead of ETC and got the same hash rate. If this is the case then why do so many people list their hash rates around the 28 MH/s range? Definetely not an expert, but this is just what I have seen. Is that just the benchmarked hash rate that people list and then the actual rates can differ?

I recently started mining ETC with my pc to see if I could get in on the craze. At first I tried claymores dual miner on windows 10, but I was only getting about 2 MH/s so I did some research and found that Windows 10 can often cause problems with mining. I decided to make a partition on my SSD (that is also running windows) to run Ubuntu to hopefully bypass the problem. This is the first time I have used linux before, but I'd say I'm kinda getting the hang of it now. I downloaded the most recent nvidia drivers, but was not able to get the CUDA tool kit to install for the life of me (though it is my understanding that they aren't super necessary). I managed to get claymore's dual miner working, but I am only getting about 10.5 MH/s which is quite low for a 980ti. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me troubleshoot the issue.

Opened up the bios. Here's the voltages. All seems stock to me CLOCK speed: 3.50

My friend's computer out of no where ended up performing half as well in games as it normally had for months. Here are the specs: i5 4690k, gtx 780, wd blue 1 tb, 8 gb corsair ram, and asrock z97 pro4 mobo. I tried to troubleshoot it by updating all of his drivers and upgrading his windows 8.1 to windows 10, but it changed nothing. Metro Last Light is getting 20 to 30 fps on max settings compared to the 60 to 70 he would normally get and is what I would expect from his particular set up. I decided to run a 3D mark 11 test to get a feel for how bad it was. On firestrike 1.1 he got a 9938 graphics score but a 1414 physics score which is god awful for a 4690k. This leads me to suspect it has something to do with his cpu, but I don't know if other components could interfere with the physics score. Any insight on the situation would be appreciated! :] (I am currently going to try and place his 780 in my rig with quite similar specs and see how it performs to isolate where the problem is coming from)

I know that internal usb 3.0 cables are a pain in the ass and can look bad because they are bulky and stiff. The mobo I have is a sniper 5 from gigabyte and does not have a right-angle header. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can buy a right angle adapter of some sort. I would pay money for something like that

Thanks for the suggestions! one question I still have though is how many fans can I have connected to one fan header? If I have 6 fans all hooked up to one by using a lot of fan splitters, I'm worried there won't be enough voltage for the fans or something along those lines.

My up coming water cooled build is going to have a hex radiator externally since I can't fit that much radiator space in my case. I have never done this externally before so the biggest question I have is how do you run all the fans out there without it looking bad. How many fans can you put on one fan header by having a bunch of splitters? Also where should you run the wires through? The back grommits that you run the tubes out of? Thanks

What we need to realize is that we people here on Linus tech tips are pretty tech savvy and are in the loop with what is behind the xbox one and the bad things about it. I personally think it is a nice thing simply because I have internet and I have been paying 60$ for games for years. (Not as much now since I mostly play on the pc) I also like that it is quite good at multitasking. If you dont like the kinect, unplug it or cover up the damn thing with a rag :p. As stated in the article, with the used game aspect out of the picture, MS can hopefully lower the prices of the games ,but back to my point. The majority of people buying the xbox one are just average joes who don't really know what they are buying and are getting it because they know the name and see that it is new. My little brother is excited to no end for this thing and he is 11. A common age group for the xbox and a very under informed group. Along with him is my dad. He is busy with his job and doesn't have the time to look into things. He just has a brief idea of what it features: Better graphics, can multitask, can be hooked up to the tv signal, and most importantly, something NEW. Most people are like them, under informed and will still buy it. Contrary to what many of you have said, I think the xbox one will be just as popular as the last one.

You're right we are enthusiasts. As an enthusiast myself, I can tell you that a macbook is not a good option for him. For that price he could get something worth much more for the money. He needs a work station so I personally would recommend him something with a quadcore and a graphics card so he could potentially play games or render since it will be taking the place of a desktop. That being said, the razer blade pro has a haswell 4700HQ processor which is a quadcore that also features hyperthreading. Not only that, but it has a gtx 765m which is a very solid gpu. The thing weighs 6.5 pounds so that may be somewhat of a problem if you travel alot so consider that. If I were you, I would run an external hard drive to store the rest of your data becuase 128 gigs is not that much, and I wouldnt spend a ton of money to get the 512 gig version.
