  1. This was informal to me. It was cool to see rational comparisons and explanations. ...For the most part. Still a few dildos flaming like children, haha.
  2. Are you wanting an image of the board itself, or just the model number? Model number of the board just shows P8H77-M Pro/CG8270, I think. I've been running the system for the last week with two dimms in (2x4gb) and haven't run into any stability errors.
  3. Indeed it does suck, thank you. Myself and three others have tinkered around in the incredibly limited BIOS quite a bit to no avail. :'( There was one update I was able to install that at least allowed for Boot options, but nothing else. I wish so much it would just decide to start working like it did. It's my google+ image, so I like it matching in situations like this. Works wonders in Hangouts haha. BIOS updated. Memory remap is enabled currently; I've tinkered with every setting that seemed even remotely relevant. I've pulled half the modules and installed windows 7 with no drama; seems stable. Only issue is that since this is an OEM board, only OEM drivers work on it. But since I have other hardware that doesn't match the pre-set profile, I'm triggering a bevy of "this system is incompatible you big dingus, knock it off already" messages when I attempt to install drivers for the last few things left over (sm bus, usb 3.0, blah blah). So I thought, "hey, windows 8 has newer drivers by default, so I'll just go for that!" So I attempt to install windows 8 off of disc media and it takes a while to pop up. On top of that, it drops this really awesome and TOTALLY not enraging message stating "media driver is missing, please guess what driver it is and install it". Another odd thing is that it's showing two more drives than what are connected in the system. This dumb mystery just keeps getting more and more...dumber.
  4. Haha, I had to stop myself from clicking "mark solved" on your post. Like, "that's it, problem solved: Built on Christmas!"
  5. As stated I am having some friggin' nasty issues concerning BIOS registering all of the installed ram I have. Board is an Asus P8H77-M Pro/CG8270 (OEM) that I picked up off of craigslist as a result of the same issue in an Asus P8Z77-V LX after installing a shiny, new replacement i5 3470 from Intel. After initial installation into the P8H77, it ran and operated fine, showing all 16GB of ram. Something compelled me to reset BIOS to "optimized defaults", and that's when all hell broke loose: BIOS acts like everything is fine but only registers 8gb of the 16gb installed (4x4gb matched Corsair Vengeance Pro). The insane part is that when you go into menu to see what's what in the DIMM slots, it shows everything perfectly. I've tried all kinds of variations of different sticks populating different slots, I even tried some other sticks from an extra kit. Bottom line is that it seems to refuse to register more than two sticks at a time, regardless of the slots used. Since the board I'm using now is an OEM, I don't have jack in the options department for BIOS, especially when it comes to trying to play around with memory settings (timing, voltage, etc.) and I don't have access to my original P8Z77 after giving it away as bad (seems like a terrible move on my part at this point...) Only conclusion I can come up with is that it's something with the processor, as I've noticed onboard video didn't work in both boards. But it doesn't make sense after I received a new, sealed retail package from Intel on a chip that had an issue with cache operation. Regardless, congratulations on being just as confused as I and three other friends are on the matter. Any opinions on this are very welcome. Yes, I've reset CMOS, you buzzard...
  6. Alternate power supply did nothing, as well as running on one stick of ram. Any tips on setting the UEFI to "don't screw with anything" mode to avoid any alteration in stock operating timings? There's simply no "off" for all this stuff, and by default ASUS screws with a lot of crap.
  7. Yeah, I've got some other power supply I'll be trying out in a couple hours. My suspicion wants to hope that's the culprit, haha.
  8. I'm at my wit's end with a relatively recent build (mid-summer 2014) that does nothing but baffle me. When I first got it, it would throw fits and refuse to even go through any full OS installation process (Win7/8.1) until I upgraded the BIOS and maybe did some other things to the point where it finally, magically worked with Win8.1. After that point I would enjoy 1-2 months of perfectly fine use (idle/browsing/gaming/work-horsing) without issue. After a while it would crash, then continue to throw crash tantrums until I'd arbitrarily mess with and eventually reset BIOS. This continued up until earlier this week when it threw a tantrum and hasn't quite stopped. I'm terrible with memory on specifics and especially documentation, so here's what I've got so far: - Even Viewer throws tens of thousands of "Event 19" codes - MemTest86'd the hell out of my ram with no errors (bought from awesome dude here ) - Checked voltages, they appear in spec (can't account for spikes/drops) - Ran Intel Processor Diagnostic and got all kinds of PASS PASS PASS - Tried multiple Windows installs to the same effect and Elementary OS chugged real bad (not software related?) - Does not crash at all in safe mode; that's how I'm posting this :3 - Updated BIOS to latest version - Kicked my computer case a bunch, but no affect System Specs: Intel Core i5 3470 Asus P8Z77-V LX 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600 PNY GTX 650 1GB Some Bricka-Bracka 630W Power Supply All of my research has lead to issues with overclocking given the Event 19 call, and since my processor's locked, I'm wondering if ASUS' suite of irritating auto-clock stuff is to blame. It can't be software if behavior is exactly consistent across multiple installs, and I find it terribly hard to believe that there's a hardware fault with the cpu/ram/mobo if I've never run into issues when stressing the system: it has only crashed when idle or just browsing. Never ever while gaming. So I'm left considering either something in the BIOS or intermittent faults in the power supply. But I'm not quite ruling out hardware faults, I'm mostly trying to think wishfully haha. I said a LOT of words, but I know there's plenty of information I left out. I'm on a fresh install of Win7 that I've been keeping in safe mode, so I don't have any crash reports to offer. I suppose I should let that happen, eh? Thanks for your help, fellas!
  9. I'm breaking down my rig this weekend and swearing off gaming for good. Hope I don't win.
  10. Cool, thanks fella. I'm pretty sure this is one of the first places I discovered in my search, but for some reason thought the price was for a five pack of switches haha. I see now, however, that it's for a 110 pack. Not bad at all. Definitely worth it to be able to keep the keyboard. Now all I need to do is devise a way to wire up some LEDs.
  11. For the last couple months I have studied mechanical keyboards and switches, from Cherry to Topre to Kale. Came to the decision that if I ever had such available cash to get a proper keyboard, it would have MX Green switches. I'm a deliberate typist, so it seems like it would be the best switch for me. Just happened upon a craigslist ad where a guy was selling a like-new Corsair k60 for $50 bones. It was awesome luck because of all the keyboards I studied, it was a toss-up between Corsair and the newest offering from Das Keyboard. As many of you know, the k60 has MX Red switches. I knew I wouldn't like them because of how soft they are. ...And I was right, haha. I mean, the experience is AMAZING over the stupid-expensive Logitech Backlit keyboard I've had for the last five years. But if I had the opportunity, I would switch out the reds with some greens. I know i can just buy a new keyboard with the greens, but I am just too pleased with this k60. The design is subdued and mature, the standalone media keys are perfect. And that friggin' volume scroll is perfect. Only complaint is it lacks backlighting, but even then I would only really like white. So then, in conclusion, the Corsair k60 is perfect in every way to me except the absence of backlighting and the red switches. Having said all that: I apparently don't have a choice but to do some switch swapping. Anybody know a good, inexpensive source of MX Greens?
  12. Social groups/hierarchies are absolute bunk in school. I never tried to be anything and kept to myself except for friends, so people tried to typecast me as a loser. Couldn't give five franks of what was thought of me. Towards the end of highschool I was left alone, but the resulting bullying of others that became victims really irked me. I would end up "making friends" with people I defended. I never liked them, but I was always polite and nice. Otherwise I wouldn't engage them unless they cornered me. So I get where you're coming from. But I also don't think it's too cool of you to put yourself up over somebody else. You're all in the same boat. It's just unfortunate that nobody realizes that until they're out of school and matured. Bottom line: unless the kid is being aggressive or overly rude, be cordial. Don't be a smarmy twat or anything. Everybody has their problems, and those that truly understand that can very well be a great influence in another's life.
  13. Digging through my Craigslist account history, I found this little turd that's been floating for five long years. I hated to have to sell it, but I needed the money. Dude that bought it ended up being real cool and we still talk occasionally. I have a few entertaining ads I've come across. If I don't get yelled at for swearing curses, smack-talking hentai, or making up weird "facts" on the fly (3gb overkill?!), maybe I can post more. Anybody out there have fun ads you want to share?
  14. I have no idea what's going on, and that makes me angry.
