  1. I finally decided to update my laptop from Windows 8 to 10 last night. After a long time of downloading and installing, it finally got to the part where I log in and stuff. I did that then it went to the welcome message where it says "hi" with a blue background. Then it said the something about all the new features or something but it just stayed on that one screen for a few minutes then the screen went black. The computer had shut down so I thought this was just another restart it was doing but it never turned back on. I tried clicking the power button to turn it on but it didn't respond. Yes, it was charging when it happened. It couldn't have ran out of battery. I don't know what happened and it won't turn on

    Backpack

nothing beats the size, dependability, and expand-ability of this classic. I never leave my house without it. Also it's super cheap
  3. I don't know if someone posted about this or not yet. (Sorry if someone did) But this: http://www.twitch.tv/luke_lafr Luke is live streaming for idk how long but it's only just a 3d printer printing and almost 400 people are watching!!!! lol That's right folks if you want to become a popular steamer I suggest you either point your camera at the wall or a moving object .
  4. Probably made by a graphic designer or some artist in Adobe illustrator. If you want to make something like that then some sort of art school is a good option They probably made it like someone would normally make a painting. I doubt there's any simple tricks like someone might use editing photos in photoshop.
  5. Here's the latest update
  6. My high school offers no education on the subject. I think it's because it's a very specialized field. For example, I wouldn't think that any high school would teach any form of engineering, architecture, physics (unless your taking an AP class), or anything like that that doesn't have any real use to every day people. It's only useful if you're going into that field. With that being said, programming isn't very useful unless you want to make things with technology. Your average Joe isn't gonna need to know how to program a binary search algorithm, but he will need to know math, english, and all the other basic classes if he wants to go to college. I made a speech for my computer science club during our first meeting. Everyone there liked and it might be interesting to you https://docs.google.com/document/d/11cHZAWrBd7v9nrlagicAolekPWg8hkfrNcq3pmPiKJM/edit?usp=sharing
  7. I look to doing that tonight. Just give me some time
  8. Yeah I've got to touch those up. That's one of the bad thing about using a mouse to draw it
  9. So what do you think about these backgrounds I made Day version Night version
  10. In the hangouts example that's a long list of extremely similar and most importantly short information. When you have a quickly scan-able list the only reason cards aren't used is because it distracts the eyes from the meaningful content. See google's example here from there material design spec page: link: http://www.google.com/design/spec/components/cards.html#cards-usage Also here is another example from the same web page that shows an example of appropriate card use You'll notice that the cards are large enough that they can display information without drawing the eyes away from the content. Now I see what you mean when you look at my main page right now. The cards don't hold anything but two lines and yes that would be inappropriate then; however, I'm not yet finished and when I'm done it will hold an array of dynamic, expandable content. It will, when I' m finished, have more than three lines of content filling it. Which on Google's material design spec page, they say you should use a card layout when displaying content that "[w]ould otherwise be in a list but needs to display more than three lines of text." Also Youtube does use cards. They use it on their website. In their app, however, they can't use them because the information is so close together that it would cause the eyes to look at the spaces between the cards rather the content in the cards themselves Now with that being said material design is not a how to guide nor is it a strict set of rules that everything you do has to follow. It is a philosophy that is meant to give you a theme to strive towards when you design things. There are many different ways to do things in material design and it is up to that individual designer to decide how it will look. They give us a spec to describe the rules to us and let us go on our own to make things.
  11. I just found something really weird when I few an image at full resolution on my computer it looks perfectly sharp and fine like this: but when I set it to my desktop it looks like this See the blurry and distorted pixles! This really bothers me. Does anyone know how to fix this or what's wrong? They are both the same size. It's not scaling because the picture is already 1920x1080 the size of my monitor
  12. So this reason I made a new background (here's the thread) was because I've grown bored with my desktop and wanted to switch things up and seeing as I'm already doing things with material design I though I might as well make my desktop themed after that as well. So yesterday I made my background and today I made my icon holder or whatever you want to call it. I'll call it a navigation drawer. Now I've only worked on it today so it's not very polished. Also, to be frank I got bored with it halfway through so it's not as cool looking as I had originally planned but I still think it looks fine and it serves it's purpose. Here's what my desktop looks like Here's what it looks like if I click that little icon in the top right Here's what it looks like when I hover over a text field Here's what it looks like when I click on a text field Here's another sample of me clicking on a text field When you click on the buttons for the programs all that happens is that it executes a path for an .exe like so ["C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2014\avgui.exe"]. It doesn't do anything more but hide the icons. Sadly there are no animations. I have no experience making animations or using animation software nor did I want to waste more time. So like when I click on the three bar icon the nav drawer just appears instead of having a cool animation. Perhaps in the future I'll do something like that. Idk who knows what my desktop will look like in 6 months or however long it takes for me to get bored of it.
  13. On the contrary I think the use of cards on my main screen are entirely appropriate. They are displaying unique content in a list of items and they don't need to have things to either side of them. See google's example here:
  14. Here you go (I couldn't find a good way to incorporate blue into it so I made a bunch of different versions and I couldn't put blue in the paper strips because that goes against the design of the work. The strips are only allowed to be three different shades of one color) I also redesigned it to be twice the length. just red. red and blue 1 red and blue 2 red and blue 3 red and blue 4
