  1. Hi jools what I didn't mention in my original post is that I tried about every combination of those parts as well as monitor and DisplayPort cable using my laptop monitor and cable are fine also tried a different monitor still no luck
  2. Hello, everyone, I hope someone can help me with my problem or at least give me some advice what I could try. First of all here are my system specs Mainboard: Asus Rampage 3 Extreme (MSI X58 Pro-E) CPU: Xeon X5560 (W3520) GPU's: EVGA GTX 780Ti SC + Zotac GTX 780Ti AMP edition (EVGA GTX 770 SC + PNY GTX 770 XLR8) PSU: Coolermaster Silent Pro m2 720W (Coolermaster GX550W) So here's my problem I'll give you the long story For about a year now I've been running my secondhand bought setup of a Rampage 3 Extreme with a Xeon x5560 CPU OC'ed to 3,8 GHz and an EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC with a Custom Watercooling loop. At some point, I've added a Zotac GTX 780Ti Amp edition for SLI with its stock air cooler since adding another water block wasn't an option for me at the time. Fast forward to about 2,5 Weeks ago, I got tired of the screaming loud air cooler, bought a cheap single 120mm aio and put it on the card using an NZXT Kraken G10 I had laying around. Since I'm lazy af I did all that laying under my desk, struggling to get the aio cooled card behind the existing water cooling hoses, with everything plugged in not even the PSU power switch turned off (Yes that's stupid please don't do that ) so karma struck and worse came to worst, my PC won't boot triggering the short circuit protection of the PSU I started troubleshooting beginning with the in my mind easiest most sensible things to do -Pulled the aio cooled card back out > same problem -Tried a different PSU > same problem -Removed everything except MB+CPU+PSU > same problem -Removed the CPU so only MB+PSU installed > still the same problem -Pulled the CPU 8pin power plug > short circuit protection won't trigger but obviously no boot because the CPU power plug isn't plugged in -Went on eBay and 5,70€ later I acquired a second-hand Xeon w3520 > same problem as in the beginning at this point, I moved to a different house so I had no time for more troubleshooting I was also like 99% sure that my MB is dead -about a week later I went on eBay again and 64,99€ later I had a secondhand MSI X58 Pro-E Mainboard on the way to my house -Put the MSI board in my case with the X5560 CPU > no short circuit protection but only a black screen with the "no signal detected" message on screen -Got a pair of GTX 770s from a friend to see if my GPUs were dead >still only a black screen -So I went through some forums trying to find out what's wrong and read about dead bios batteries so I pulled the one in the MSI board out which looked pretty crusty and a quick check with the multimeter showed 0.2 volts took the one out of the ASUS board which had the full 3 volts so I put that one in the MSI board >stil only the black screen So here I am back in the present time sitting in front of my laptop, frustrated, asking for all your help any ideas what I could try? I'm at a loss... I'd be grateful for any ideas
  3. I did a similar build a few months ago. Bought a used Rampage 3 Extreme for 120€ and a Xeon X5560 (2.80GHz Quadcore with HT) which i got for 35€ overclocked it to 3.43GHz (probably could go higher with better cooling) used the rest of my last build -Evga GTX 780ti SC (which i also got used really cheap for 320€ with an EKWB Watercooler installed) -8GB Crutial Balistix Sport RAM -250GB Samsung 850EVO SSD -1TB WD Green HDD -Creative Soundblaster ZX -Coolermaster Silent Pro M2 720W PSU and depending on the game it's about a 20% FPS increase over my FX 8150 @4GHz Peronally i would recomend anybody to use a second hand X58 Xeon for a budget Gaming build
  4. So you all agree that i should rather get a new CPU first?
  5. Hello everyone, I'm looking into buying a new graphics card and have around 350€ to spend my current setup is: Cpu: And FX8150 @ 4Ghz Mainboard: Asus Saber tooth 990fx Psu: Cooler master 720watt Gpu: Gtx 590 1 1080p monitor (maybe upgrading to a 1440p monitor in near future) I was comparing reviews and Benchmarks for a few day's now and I'm still not sure what to get. I'm down to the following options but I can't decide. 1. 2 second hand gtx 770s in SLI ~350€ 2. 1 second hand gtx 780 ~300€ 3. 1 New gtx 970 ~350€ 4. 2 New gtx 960 in SLI ~400€ (would be hard at the limit but possible) 5. 1 New r9 290x ~350€ (im not really an and fan but if you recommend it I would try it) What do you think? Which way should i go? Or do you think i should buy something completely different? Thanks in advance for any help. -Josh (btw I don't really care about all that fuss about the gtx 970)
  6. Haven´t tried it but like i said the heat problem is probably related to the difference in clockspeed I´m gonna try that as soon as the older driver finished downloading Like i said above i guess its related to the difference in clockspeed Update: Now i´ve uninstalled the 337.88 driver and installed 335.23 and everything runs pefect max 5°C difference in idle and thier both running on 51Mhz Thanks fringie
  7. Hey everyone, Two weeks ago i bought a secondhand Point of View GTX 590 Ultra Charged at first everything was fine except for it overheating due to lack of airflow in my case. I fixed that by swapping some Fans around and turning the clockspeed down from 670Mhz to the standard 608Mhz and undervolting the card a bit. Last week i noticed that the card is running in idle very hot on GPU2, about 25°C to 30°C hotter than GPU1 (while running a Game their about the same 10°C difference max.) I looked around a bit and found out that that GPU2 is always running in 3D mode, it´s always at 608Mhz while GPU1 is going down to 51Mhz If anyone knows how to fix this please tell me. Hope my English isn´t too bad im German Thanks in advance Josh
