  1. It was a joke, sorry. It would be meaningless, a waste of time and unproductive. As for the how, I never tried. There's probably apps for that.
  2. EMENCII

    Tempting but questionable (maybe) ''upgrade''?…

I'd recommend you watch Buildzoid's videos on ryzen motherboards...
  3. Yep, gonna go with that ^^ Thanks for the help, it was really appreciated u.u
  4. 850W is possibly overkill. 400W are reacheable, but if it costs quite a bit more than other good choices then you can look at sth else
  5. 1. Usually the xx70s have a lower TDP than their xx80 counterpart. I said "their", because architectures aren't equal. 2. An 8core won't have the same power draw that a 6core has, and since this time the architecture is the same, the power will roughly be 33% more. That said, the RTX2070 will probably cost more than 500$, and the i9 will possibly be the same. With the state RAM is in, the build will easily exceed 1400-1600$. Are you sure you wanna cheap out on the case (responsible for airflow, so the GPU's clock) and the PSU (that's really something that can make your day go bad, if it fails in the wrong way)? In conclusion, 750W from the right PSU will be all right. Also, keep in mind that the best efficiency is at 50% PSU load. Tl;dr even 600W will be fine. Just get a good brand.
  6. Actually... I need a "real laptop" to code and do some game development (yes, it may sound stupid but I actually do, albeit not that well) so... I'll look into the stores but... I could only find the iPads to play with (pen not included, nor was their keyboard)... I'm not sure about programming on the surface because of its kb (looks a bit flimsy?) and it's totally a no go on the iPad (but the iPad wouldn't replace my notebook, while the surface costs ways too much to keep both) Sir, at one moment in desperation I actually considered this...
  7. Xiaomi MI Air (not 2018, so i5 7200u + MX150-2). Not a beast for gaming either, and the battery is only 40Wh, but it'd be the 2nd device (so it'd last a while during the day). Since the cpu is the same I'd be replacing it with sth that has a better screen, a pen (115 euros) a kb that... Is it actually that good? (almost 200 euros), and the MI Air trackpad is actually really good... Oh, the surface doesn't have a GPU. And costs 1400/650 times what I payed the Xiaomi... I know what you mean about the "it becomes your new 'normal'"... Thank you for the details, now I do have a better feel on it ^^
  8. 13" is quite a nice size. Pretty much everything with an 8th gen intel or with a ryzen cpu will do fine. If you don't need more than 8GB of RAM you're gold. Some suggestions: XPS13, HP ENVY/SPECTRE, Lenovo X1, Asus itself had some nice ones (UX331?), LG Gram, Samsung notebook 9.
  9. Usually cloning software just copies everything exactly like it is. It might or might not delete the original files (you can probably choose, I guess?) but you should look into the specific software capabilities to know if it can clone just the OS (I don't think it's a thing, since the files can change, it woulnd't be able to recognize what needs to be copied). That said, I'd tell you that if you can you should disconnect your HDD, install windows on the SSD and restart from scratch. It's good to clean things up every once in a while
  10. Yep... It is quite impossible IRL. Maybe if the RAM VRMs short-circuit it to 12V, but it's so unlikely it's not even fun
  11. Thanks for the organization of thoughts, it actually helped with the order in my head. Now the choice is between the cheaper choices (I guess mostly the iPad) and the more expensive ones... I'd actually kinda like the surface pro idea, but it'd cost me over 1.1k (1.4k with the pen/keyboard), and I'd have to sell my current laptop to make up for a bit of it (not much more than a third)... So I guess it's kinda out of the question... Now the debate is between the surface go, the iPad and the 2nd/3rd gen iPad Pro... Would you say it makes an actual difference to go with the Pro instead of the base iPad? (BTW, none of the iPads will be replacing my laptop)
  12. I do have a graphic tablet but it doesn't have a screen, so that makes it quite weird to write on (I just use it to play)... If the wacom had a screen and good latency I could think about it...
  13. I'm sorry, I didn't say that I already have a 13" laptop. It wouldn't be a notebook replacement, rather a complement, just for handwritten notes. The Surface GO didn't strike me as the "perfect solution", but I'll consider it. I'd use it mostly for maths, so numbers (haha not really, last time I saw numbers during maths was in elementary school, but I digress ^^'). The "paper kind" wouldn't really be an issue, I guess a decent app would let you choose (right?) Regarding frustrations... I don't like paper cause it's psychologically messy (psychologically because in the end I would be able to keep it tidy anyways) and it would soon begin to be heavy; I don't like windows tablets cause they're not that powerful and windows isn't that great of a mobile OS (I have a laptop too, so that would also feel like a duplicate); I don't like convertibles because I think (I never tried one) that they'd be too big; I don't like the iPad because it feels old, the iPad pro is too expensive, android tablets are just big phones... Yes, it's all psychology and foolishness on my side, I'm assuming things I don't know and it just looks like a child who has too many toys. I'm sorry. ^^' Maybe... It's 639 vs the surface go @ 619, with the GO having a 30% better cpu... Will look into its other features Can you provide more info on the wacom tablet? Very interesting, thank you ^^ Are n-trig equipped devices that bad? Is the lag only when hovering? I'd like to hear more about this, since I've never heard anything like that... I didn't really consider android devices except if there was sth exceptional... But yeah... And I think I'd agree with the fan argument ^^'
  14. Hello everyone, I'll start university in a couple of months, and I'd really like to use something digital instead of a paper notebook. I considered many alternatives, but all of them left me kinda unsatisfied. They are, with each's drawback: 1. 2018 iPad 6 with pencil (feels like I'm buying an iPad air) 2. Either wait for the new iPad Pro or buy the 2nd gen, still with the pencil (it's quite expensive, and I know I probably don't need it) 3. Buy a 2 in 1 (I'd have liked it to have Ryzen, but isn't the battery life worse than Intel? How much? Also, a 13" screen (or even 15") as a piece of paper... Is it doable?) 4. Buy a windows/android tablet (android tablets feel like a bigger phone, so a duplicate, and windows tablets are either too expensive (surface book) or don't have a good CPU (eve v, surface go)) So, since the community has more experience, what do you say on this? Thank you for your time, EMENCII
  15. Well, the pixel fill rate is not synonym for power, and my 980 does use some less watts if I reduce the resolution (in GPUZ something lowered as well, can't remember what tho) Thank you for your answer ^^
  16. If the dimensions are the same... I know more pixels are... More, but the backlight is basically the same, and the GPU (even if it's already little) has to do less work...
  17. I'll check it out, thanks
  18. Awesome... Well, it should be fine if it's a reputable shop, right? At least I'd get my money back..........probably.
  19. @cox1000 The notebook had a single language license... I need it in english ^^' What do you mean "how long they'll work", aren't all of them valid forever? I thought this was the case... D:
  20. Hello everyone, I saw many reviews on the XPS 13/15 saying how the higher resolution models have better screens but because of the resolution the battery life is impacted quite a bi, and how windows scaling isn't perfect. So... How much of an impact would it have to run them at a lower resolution as a battery-saving measure? Should I just consider the lower res models, or are the nicer screens much better? I'm coming from the macbook experience (not an apple fan, just liked it to code) and that had no problems running it for as long as I needed it to (75Wh battery in a 13inch...) and the image was crisp and vibrant (the screen was niiiice.) Opinions on the whole thing?
  21. Hello everyone, I need a Windows 10 license for my notebook (right now it's not activated) and I was wondering where I can find one for cheap. In my mind there's still lingering the old news about people on G2A and similar sites selling already-owned keys, so I'm a bit skeptical about those sites... What options do I have? Thanks for your time ^^
  22. Hello everyone, I have a Oneplus 3 and a Xiaomi Notebook Air (refreshed, with the 7th gen i5). I was wondering about the devices' chargers intercompatibility and what power bank to buy: the Oneplus charger has an output of 5V 4A, the Xiaomi has 5V 2A, 12V 2A, 9V 2A, 15V 3A, 20V 3.25A. So, can I charge one with the other's charger and vice versa? I've read stuff about USB C power delivery standards, but I didn't understand much about them, so... How exactly does it work? Also, I've found this AUKEY 26500mAh power bank with USB C (5V 3A, 9V 2A, 12V 2A, 14,5V 2A) but even though some outputs are the same as the Xiaomi charger I'm not sure it will be capable of charging it (I've read stuff about the XPS laptops needing 45W output to be charged). So... ELI5 how charging and USB C power delivery work? Thank you for your help
  23. That's what I'm thinking too, but buying antother 400 euros worth of motherboard is not a thing I'd like to do... That's why I want to solve this another way... The RAM cannot be removed. I am waiting for ebay to ship the screwdriver so that I can open it again. Though I'm not sure it will turn on without them, I heard it needs EVERYTHING to be there and working in order to start, not like a PC. It sounds unlikely to me, but who knows what apple did...
