  1. Sounds like a heat issue but we would need more info.
  2. CHKDSK comes back clean on the SSD im so confused lol
  3. I will ive just never heard of a hdd/ssd causing a black screen...This is news to me. I hate troubleshooting black screens. In my experience they have been the most difficult to remedy. Thanks for the input Arik.
  4. I LOLD at this haha. I havnt had the issue since I took out my ssd should have never bought that shitty thing Kingston sucks now. Not at all what they used to be. If I crash again ill be 99% sure its psu. Ive looked at all the stuff in bios. Its all recognized and set to manufacturer specs no oc's. The stick looks visibly clean I think the one infront of it took a bigger hit haha. Either way thank you guys for helping me think a little harder about this.
  5. The PSU is 8 years old it may be the issue im questioning it myself with how intermittent the issue is. GPU is almost brand new and the CPU is new as well. I mounted the cooler on the cpu which ive done 20 or more times. Temps in HW monitor read really good on both under load.
  6. Dedicated gpu no onboard graphics. Rx480 is brand new and so is the board a M5A97. For anyone Curious Old ram,PSU and HDD. I removed the SSD to take it out of the equation no black screen in over an hour now.
  7. Boards dead in the water its already been replaced. I was hoping for some help with this black screen I keep getting. It doesn't always require a reboot but it does most of the time.
  8. Yea I used a bucket let it dry over night. Trust me I wanted to save that board it cost me 150$ and wasnt very old.
  9. Ill check out a bootable os if I (black)sod. Thanks for the recommendation.
  10. Alright ive gotten like 90% of this done I think. I used a previous computer I built for troubleshooting. Ended up having to replace the videocard motherboard a stick of ram and the cpu. Now im getting intermittent black screens and this has been very frustrating to troubleshoot. Temps on HWmonitor are all well under manufacturer suggested. Ran memtest86 on the ram and it passed several passes. Im thinking it could be this crappy Kingston SSD v300 I bought second hand. It started giving me issues when I was trying to get the computer back up. But Im also leaning towards power supply. When I plugged in a rail to my rx480 there is usually a blue light and when I plugged the rail in it was red I could not get it to boot. Kind of stuck on it to be honest. Ive migrated all data from the ssd to a known functional hdd and am waiting for another failure to go from there. Sometimes when it black screens it comes back fairly fast and other times a reboot is necessary and when I reboot I usually have to pull the power plug and hold the power button down for 15 seconds or so to get it to boot.
  11. Reinstalled 8.1 grabbed the drivers and the display popped right up. I have no idea why it didn't show before. If anyone comes across anything in the future I would love to know. Thank you all for your suggestions.
  12. Yea haha Im making a bootable usb right now. Ill be sure to check back in Shortly.
  13. Yea, it would be one hell of a coincidence. I do have an old 5870 I can throw in just to see if the ports bad. But tbh reinstalling takes like 15 minutes and everything I really need is on a secondary drive. Im gonna try 8.1 drivers? Look around a bit more and if im still having issues ill reinstall. If it persists ill know its the card I guess.
