Yup, I already have both the cards. The benchmarks are quite similar for modern games, the 390X beats 1060 slightly in some but the 1060 uses less power.
-
I have the choice of two GPUs to use on my new system. The 390X was on my old system and is about a year old, well maintained. The 1060 is brand new. CONFIG: intel i7 8700Asus Z370 moboSSD + HDDs600w PSU AMD R9 390X 8 GB or GTX 1060 6 GBCorsair Hyper 212 Primary monitor : 21:9 Ultrawide : 2560x1080 FREESYNC Monitor 75 Hz?Secondary monitor : Some Samsung 1680x1050USAGE: Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Gaming / StreamingI am a variety streamer, I stream demanding games as well as light games. I am thinking of using the x264 encoding while stream, not sure if I can without stressing my system. Which GPU would be best suited for me?

I believe Skylake supports both DDR3 and DDR4 ? I will wait for the locked CPUs to show up meanwhile.
-
Hi jimakos, the deepcool captain is a little expensive but I am willing to scrifice a bit for aesthetics. Besides, it is not too expensive. Flipkart is actually selling cheaper than 80 USD ( link ) As for the CPU, some people suggested I wait for Skylake as I won't be getting too big of a performance increase over my current CPU. Note, I don't overclock and never will. Should I wait for Skylake or upgrade now? My concern is all new lineups are super expensive at launch.... Will an R9 380 hold up in 1440p? I might go for the 390 instead if it doesn't. Also, I don't know much about monitors so I still need help with that.

Anyone?

So I'm planning to update my system in about two months from now (started saving for it already). I would appreciate some tips and advice Usage : Gaming (preferably at max/ultra settings), Music, Movies, Photoshop and Illustrator, basic video editing Overclocking : no, don't plan to Theme : Red / Black Country : INDIA Current : CPU : Intel Core i5-3550 - stock cooler Motherboard : ASUS P8Z77-M PRO RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 @1866 mhz GPU : Asus R9 280X , 3gb Case : NZXT H440 Storage : Sandisk Ultra 256 GB SSD + WD Caviar Black 1TB + Segate 1TB HDD PSU : Corsair CS 650M Display(s) : Samsung S22B370, 1080p Cooling : 6X 120 mm (Three intake front, two exhaust on top, one exhaust at back) OS : Windows 8.1 (soon to be 10) Parts to be upgraded CPU : Intel Core i5-4590 CPU Cooler : Deepcool Captain 120 Motherboard : MSI H97 GPU : Asus R9 280X , 3gb (need suggestions) Display(s) : Something with 2160x1080 or a 1440p Since I don't plan to overclock, the Deepcool cooler is mainly for aesthetics. It's cheap, performs allright and looks damn cool. Mobo, I don't see a better alternative that fits a red/black theme without being too expensive. So here is the main issue. I can't seem to find a good 1440p display that does not break my budget, which is about Rs. 30,000/- (roughly USD 450). Since I also design, I can use the extra width offered by a 2160x1080 display. Again, I don't know much about displays so I would like to have some recommendations, with the same budget. Depending on the display recommendations, I might have to upgrade my GPU if I want to play games like Witcher 3 maxed out (don't care about hairworks setting). If my 280X can handle it, let me know. p.s. its an old image, the speakers are different.

I'll go for the Sandisk perhaps. Seems to be getting a lot of love (apart from the Crucial and Samsung of course)
-
I'll be going for a 256 Gig SSD and I have my eyes on the Crucial MX ones. However, it doesn't really fit well with my red/black theme and I would like to know if there are alternatives. I can't afford to go overboard with top of the line performing SSDs like the Samsung 840 Pros, those would simply break my wallet. Any suggestions?

Thats what I was thinking. I think if the ambient noise (or silence, depends on how you look at it) is more than the rig, I think its fine.
-
I don't plan to overclock, my CPU is most likely going to be i5-4460 or something in that range. I don't plan to SLI/CF either, I've always preferred single GPUs. Having that in mind, I would like some motherboard recommendations under 200. I am on a tight budget so the cheaper the better. Also, I don't care about number of USB ports, etc. Most importantly however, it needs to have some amount of red to match my build! I was thinking of something like an Asus H-97 or something which would match my needs but I'm no expert when it comes to features.
-
Guys, you're missing the point. I wanna know is worth having the extra cost/dampening worth it if you wont notice it during gaming.
-
This is not really a build planning but I had some thoughts on silent builds out there. To cut things short, does it really matter if I go the extra mile to pick parts optimized for silence? I'm talking about choosing parts which are little more expensive but have lower noise. For instance, picking up a noctua CPU cooler instead of a Hyper 212, picking up Noctua fans over say, Corsair AF, picking up 0 rpm PSU/GPUs (no load), padded chassis, etc. From what I think, if you are gaming and your rig is under load, you probably wont notice the "noise" over the game volume anyway. The only time I would need quiet is when I'm browsing, editing, etc. and the non-silence optimized parts do a decent job of cooling, the sound levels at idle are too low to notice. I dunno, just trying to figure out why is so much important for many. Maybe I'm overlooking something?

I look forward to see Ubisoft on top of the charts.....for the worst company in 2014.
-
I was thinking of making it a bit future proof, in case I bought a more beastly card in the next couple of years. I never run CF or SLi and will most likely never will. Budget....I'm not looking to go more than Rs. 7000 ($110 ish), I live in India.
