  • Biography
Graduated from an engineering degree at the end of 2012. Majors: electrical and control systems. Have worked in a computer store for two years part time but didn't have a good experience as the owner was ripping off so many customers with abusing the knowledge they had over the customer (ie they just blindly listened because they didn't know better). Leading them into non ideal buys and unnecessary system upgrades. As a result i am passionate about helping others make the right and best decisions in terms of their technology needs. I am constantly helping family and extended family with their computers - so much so that i have even taught my 75yr old grandfather how to download and convert old greek music that he likes from youtube so he can listen to it on a usb stick in his car! I live in Australia and am currently completing masters of engineering full-time at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) in Brisbane.

  1. http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/2ba6jq/looks_like_the_dota_coverage_on_espn_was_well/ The guy who did this collage probably only got most of the negative comments but still, it goes to show you how far away the general public are from accepting professional gaming if at all. There are many differing opinions and i am assuming most of them are from people who are older like my parents age. I personally am a huge fan of Dota 2 and to be honest i'm sure my dad would sit through a match with me if it were on TV but then again my dad is a bit more accepting of what our generation does compared to theirs. Unfortunately because i live in Australia the games are from 2am onwards and we don't even get ESPN3 even on our pay TV service, i don't think that's going to happen. Regardless, there is certainly a stigma attached with professional gaming and that's not going away soon. Having said, it's great that the guy who writes the program scehdule at ESPN decided that it was a good idea to televise dota 2. What do you guys think of the reception? Not surprised? Lost all faith in humanity?
  2. I really like the fact that you can do and use this laptop for things other than gaming because of its looks and build.
  3. I have to say that I somewhat agree with the OP. Linus' videos have changed a lot from his early days. To be completely honest, my favourite time in LMG lifetime was when Linus and Slick were doing it in Linus' garage (hehe doing it)... But this can't have made things easy on the other people that live with him. Moving to their own house was a great idea and growing as they have and are is a good thing. Linus does still cover some cool non-mainstream stuff though - like that really interesting video on the tube amp thing. Being a musician and amateur producer myself I can appreciate these things. I still watch all of Linus' vids. I don't mind the scripted more professional style but i reeeeeeeaaaaaaalllyyyy miss the old vids Linus used to do which were initial impressions and the UNBOXINGS!!! I wonder if it would be possible for him to do an initial impromptu first impressions unboxing as he traditionally did and then proceed to use the thing for a week or two or however long. Or what probably makes more sense is to do the initial impressions in the same vid? I don't know that might be weird, but watching impromptu linus is always better than scripted linus. His recent tour of the LMG HQ was cool. I can tell that there has been a shift in focus in terms of quality over quantity now. Reviewing more things is always good - it is probably a bit unfair to criticise him on what he exactly chooses to do videos on because everyone's tastes are different and you can't always please everyone. AND NOW FOR A NOTE TO LINUS if he is reading this. I THINK YOU NEED A BREAK OR A HOLIDAY BECAUSE I HAVE NOTICED IN YOUR VIDEOS THAT YOU SEEM LESS.. RELAXED. You seem to be stressed. Especially in the LMG tour. It seemed as though you were a bit I don't know maybe bored of shooting videos? Also WAN shows seem to be more rushed. Before you would always just stay and chat and say more things on news topics and everyone liked that interaction with you. I really do understand that you have to do WAN show and go home because it can take up a lot of time but i don't know, it seems as if this whole thing has become more and more just a job for you, which it is, but i hope you haven't or won't ever lose track of why you started these videos in the first place - your love of all things tech and chatting to people about it! Maybe you are going a little too far down the road of professional video maker because it is losing some of that.. humanity and personality. I could be completely wrong but it's just something i noticed. TAKE A BREAK. It's late for me here and i haven't read over my sentences so i apologise if they don't make sense. I just saw this before going to bed and thought i should say something. Peace.
  4. My favorite thing about the new HTC one is that it is the only non apple branded phone that gives such a high priority to build quality. I'd love to have one. Also the front facing speakers are 2legit2quit.
  5. I understand the point about how every man and his dog makes phone reviews, but this is the thing: I pretty much hate watching any other reviewer except for Linus because he looks at the things I care about in a device or a piece of tech. The other "hands on" reviews don't ever make me feel as though it was used thoroughly enough to tell the full story - something Linus is good at and let's be honest, all we care about a product before we buy it is how it will do for us in the long run, not after one use. For this reason I watch Linus' videos and not others. Sure, most of your audience is going to want to watch the actual tech stuff and not the phone reviews but when i happen to upgrade my phone once every two years, the first place I look is Linus' phone reviews. I understand that i am only one person though and that it is a lot of work for someone who is actually going to use it every two years but having said, i still watch every video Linus puts up because of the comical side he adds to tech. Maybe a compromise is only doing reviews of the phones that you guys think are important enough to make it for example if we were looking at last gen: Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC Once, Nokia Lumia 920 and even iPhone if you want but tbh I don't know if many people here would be interested in that. Or even better, Linus and Co could ask the community through the forum what phones they'd like reviewed or if a new phone gets released, whether or not we think he should review it. I personally don't think stopping phone reviews all together is necessary (well just yet anyway).
  6. Has anyone seen this before? I just installed AMD's 13.11Beta8 drivers that were released on the 30th and it came with the Gaming Evolved Center which i'd imagine is a bit like nVidia's GeForce Experience. As far as i can tell though it hasn't got many games that are available to be optimized (the only one on my list at the moment is Dota 2 but i'd imagine BF4 will show up once i finish downloading it). http://blog.raptr.com/2013/09/25/introducing-the-amd-gaming-evolved-desktop-app-powered-by-raptr/
  7. So basically if you're not wanting to overclock then it just becomes a choice between Z87 and X79. You implied that X79 is better. Why is that exactly? I don't know much about the differences between chipsets.
  8. Thanks for your reply. I am running an OCZ Vector so i downloaded the OCZ Toolbox however it says "No Supported Drives Found". I looked it up and apparently i need the controller to be set to AHCI mode. That kinda defeats the purpose of the test - wanting to know if TRIM works when the SSD is not apart of a RAID array but still with the controller set to RAID. Don't suppose you have any other ideas? PS I am running this on an AMD 890fx platform.
  9. Does anyone know if the TRIM command will work on an SSD that has the motherboard configured in RAID mode running as a boot drive alongside three HDD's that are in RAID 5. I have read a fair bit about it but if anyone that really knows can clarify, that would be great. I am running this on an AMD 890fx platform.
  10. I'm a little bit confused. I'm interested in why people say get the 2011 socket cpu because from this: if you look at the cpu's based on their key differences, the 4820k seems worse. Why you would pick the 4820k over the 4770k based on this comparison? http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/587/Intel_Core_i7_i7-4770K_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-4820K.html I mean less power, more instructions sets, slightly less cache, slightly slower base clock speed (same turbo) for the 4770k. I actually legitimately would like to know because where i can get them, both cpu's cost the same. I personally have never been a fan of on-board graphics so I would probably get the 4820k anyway but the more i hear about it, the gpu's on the cpu actually enhance performance in graphic applications so maybe they aren't that bad.
  11. Yes I tried it out on my dad's system and in different ports with different cables. Looks like I gotta make use of that 5 year warranty pretty early
  12. Yea i tried to clear the CMOS. Still the same thing. And the drive isn't even being recognized in the BIOS so no chance in doing a reformat. Reckon the drive is dead?
  13. Sup, So i go to start my pc to play a little doto and my pc hung on the "AHCI drive init..." screen. Did some searching on the googles and saw that there was some mention of configuring the drives as IDE and repairing the winds installation. I could not even get into the BIOS to change the setting though. I unplugged each of my drives until it got past that stage and said "No boot drive found". It turns out it's my SSD which is my boot drive (i have three other HDD's for storage in a windows RAID array - dw). I went into the BIOS, changed the config to IDE and rebooted. My PC would not even get to the first BIOS screen and had everything running with the screen(s) black. Does anyone have any ideas what i should be doing next? I'm going to try the SSD in another PC later on. Thanks
  14. no idea how reliable, didn't check it but i think i saw it on another website. Sorry if it's not real i just thought it was an interesting/ridiculous idea anyway
