  1. I thought so too but that Wasabi Mango maxes out at 400nits peak brightness and on the FB page it refers to 1000nits. Maybe it’s a joke to say that who actually wants 1000nits that close-up on their desk. Curious to know more
  2. What monitor is this? https://m.facebook.com/LinusTech/photos/a.343034662459652.110163.343018322461286/1765994416830329/?type=3&fs=0&focus_composer=0
  3. edit OP to make it easier for night theme users by removing the formatting, apologies for the delay
  4. ASUS announce their ROG Swift PG27UQ 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR monitor https://www.overclock3d.net/news/gpu_displays/asus_announce_their_rog_swift_pg27uq_4k_144hz_g-sync_hdr_monitor/1 I've always loved that ASUS ROG series of monitors and this looks nearly perfect, I wish it was 32 inch but it's a great start and shows what the new DP1.4 Standard is capable of. This is a GSYNC model and I expect that Freesync variants by other manufacturers will follow soon. This looks like a Samsung quantum dot panel so will be interesting to see what Samsung and LG bring to this new market.
  5. Good point and well made. It's important to remember though that these boards have redundant fail safes and most boards will turn off before it gets so bad there is permanent damage. I'm not saying AMD shouldn't put out a fix and investigate what happened but the rush to crucify AMD is over done, mostly by people reacting to hysteria. I mean if you look at how much people have been overvolting and overclocking CPU's, GPU's, RAM...there is rarely an issue. Doesn't mean it never fails...I recently had some DDR3 memory fail...took me 48 hours of swapping and trouble shooting the issue...drove me bonkers and couldn't figure it out...sent it back to the place I bought it from and got a new set a few days later. I bought the Sapphire 480X Nitro as I tend to buy aftermarket cards when ever I can so looking forward to seeing what a 480X can do with a great power delivery, AIB design and 8 pin plug when I get it.
  6. No need to call anyone an AMD apologist and Tom's hardware don't need anyone apologising for them either. Show me an example of where this actually impact a MB with proven fact. If you can't do that, then show me the 10 or 20 customers who have fried their MB since buying a RX480? Rather than use terms like "too much" power and "old hardware risks failure", how about you provide some data? Old hardware increases the risk of fault for any number of reasons. Too much power - let all the people who certify PCIE and engineer MB and video cards for a living be wrong, let the people who sell PC components for a living also be wrong...based on the interpretations of some one who couldn't even be arsed to check their facts with AMD or board engineers. If the best argument that people can share is look - we cleaned up the graphs so it's easier for you simple folks to see how right we were, then it's not really an argument at all. Sure are there some improvements to this card that AMD can make with drivers, absolutely...but so does every card and technology device at launch. Smells like a hack job to me and it's a disgrace to be honest. Can't believe how quick people are to get the pitchforks and rush to judge.
  7. Tom's hardware and all the other media wannabees have lost a lot of respect. In their desire to be the first with a scoop and a negative story, they ignore the facts and rushed to publish nonsense without checking with AMD and experts. I can't say I'm surprised but with more and more options on reviewers, I make my choice based on people who show some integrity and value quality. The reality is that a lot of AMD folks will have invested a lot of time and energy to bring something strong to the market, and I believe they have, that competes with Nvidia and makes gaming/pc building more accessible to everyone and TH and others shit all over that. If they had taken the time to check their facts and validate their results, then fine - massive kudos but this smells like a hack job. And no, I'm not an AMD fan boy..I have an EVGA 980ti in my rig at the minute.
  8. We've seen a lot of innovation in the last 12 months or so but we haven't seen a lot of new monitor models come out in quite a while, been waiting for a while to see 4K IPS with HDMI 2.0 and G-Sync. What's the delay? I know the ASUS ROG 4k IPS G-Sync is in the works since it was announced at CES in January but that seems a life time ago...what's next...and why is HDMI 2.0 taking such a long time to come to PC monitors? What monitor are you looking forward to next?
  9. ultimately I prefer AMD reserving stock for actual AMD users and fans. 10 EMEA review samples plus what another 10 in North America (probably more) to review a new card should give people a pretty unbiased and broad range of reviews. They can't all be fan boys or they wouldn't have an audience. I'm not a moron (usually) who can't distinguish when a reviewer is unproffesional and biased. Even Linus, who received a load of Titan Blacks from nVidia for his render machines, doesn't hide that fact and includes it as sponsorship but he is still fair and balanced. As a review site, journalist, content creator...especially in tech where science, data and facts are easy to verify there are no secrets....you have your reputation, you have more to lose than AMD stands to lose by being biased... Sounds like sour grapes from Kitguru and yes, respect the companies you want FREE products from to help your business...doesn't mean you have to ignore the rebrand but don't be an arse about it
  10. http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/msi-gtx-980-ti-gaming-6g.html Looks like an interesting card and will easily surpass Titan X performance with very little overclock. Card looks gorgeous as well. Can't wait to see what the other aftermarket cards look like.... Amazing card, amazing price...gotta wonder what has NVidia so worried that they would release a card like this 90 days after titan x with a 40% price cut... Gotta love competition and while I'm an nVidia man at the moment, I'm delighted that AMD are around to innovate and put pressure on nVidia Going to have to wait to see what AMD bring with their fury/390x before deciding which card to buy...if it has nVidia this worried, it's going to be a game changer
  11. Hey man - great question. I love the new mac book, it's lightweight and gorgeous but I don't think ready for prime time use. If you love the macbook air, it's a great machine and I use mine all the time. However as a student, I would go for the rMBPro 13inch, it's way more powerful, you get that gorgeous screen, all the ports you need to last for ever and you'll get way way more use out of it than the new macbook (or even the Air but that's just a preference thing really). I would want the best power, the best screen, the most ports in the smallest/lightest form factor and that's the rMBPro 13inch and the current price is pretty amazing. Will last you for many years throughout school and beyond, plus some gaming, video editing projects, coding, or what ever else life brings your way
  12. Linus Tech Tips team at their best. Great review, honest and direct while still balanced. I'd love a heads to heads usage video between it and say the new Dell XPS... Whatever about Apple products, they push the envelope and innovate design that takes things forward. The MacBook Air wasn't worth buying until gen 3 either... Personally I have to say, I love my PC desktop (built it myself, dual monitor, a labour of love...) but when it comes to laptops/tablets/phones...I'm Apple all the way...interested to see what the Surface Pro 4 will look like...
  13. Excellent Rumour and let's combine forces next time. LOL. I think us Europeans have a slight time zone advantage with WCCF rumours, for what they are worth.
  14. http://wccftech.com/xfx-radeon-r9-390-double-dissipation-allegedly-pictured/ Take it with a grain of salt of course but looks like a nearly finished product so hoping that we really don't have to wait until June to get this card released. Also the fact that this is a non reference card would seem like manufacturers are further along than I first thought
