  1. Has anyone tried a mumimo router?
  2. When a client can only use a maximum 1300 mbps of speed at any given time why would i ever want to have the bigger 5400 routers? whats the real benefit.
  3. I have, im just saying that the people that buy them where i work tend to return the Asus ones more frequently. I like linksys the question is whether i should get the Mu-mimo
  4. Also ill put it this way. The Asus routers get returned and Linksys ones dont.
  5. I find the firmware to be clunky. And I dont really like Asus as a company. Their support is awful.
  6. Well im not really a big fan of Asus. And i get the Linksys ones for a good price. How beneficial do people think Mu-Mimo is
  7. Its inbound and its pretty sweet looking. You guys will see it shortly
  8. What is better the 1900ACS with the ability to flash custom firmware or the new MU-Mimo router? I work for a big box retailer and can get both for a pretty good price.
  9. So how does it work when you need to replace a drive? do you just swap one out and freenas does the rest?
  10. Also, say i did this and made a raid z1. Would i be able to convert that to a raid z2 or z3 in the future? And i feel like a noob... But hey, someones got to ask the dumb questions!
  11. Well that all just sounds like magic to me but I think I can make it work. I can get 2 more drives and have a system that will have increased speed and redundancy with raid z1? And if im following correctly the different z raids are just ZFS-raid equivalents? If a drive fails in raid z1 I would be able to see that in Freenas, shut the system down and swap the drive? Will it auto rebuild the data?
  12. See that has me confused.... How can i have 6TB backed up to 2TB. And what is Raid Z1
  13. In this vid Logan is talking about it. Can someone explain what he is talking about? The link will bring you to the specific time in the video that im confused about.
  14. If you are unlucky than you should just stop tinkering and leave it stock the way the smart engineers from Intel designed it. Also, you should be more specific about what hardware you have.
  15. I built a FreeNas server last year with one 3TB WD RED drive knowing that it was risky and that I would eventually add more drives for space and redundancy/error checking. My question is how do I get it setup in such a way where I have 2 striped drives for space and speed and 1 drive for error checking. I was reading that it was possible and even preferred to setup Freenas ZFS partitions with odd numbers of drives for this reason. Can someone explain how to do that? Am I thinking about this wrong? Thanks, Elliott35
  16. I cant remember the specifics, ill look tomorrow. But it is not a managed switch. So if I have a router plugged into the switch and everything else on the network also plugged into the switch as well would I be able to for example get full gigabit throughput to my NAS from a computer? I was under the impression that the traffic would have to be routed through the router that handles the DHCP clients.
  17. I have a 24 port gigabit switch. But i was under the impression that the bottleneck with that is the connection to the router. is a 24 port switch essentially 1Gbps/24 if all ports are populated?
  18. What do we think of this benchmark? http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/76-total-simul
  19. I wish there were more benchmarks on these things. Im most interested in them from a pure performance standpoint. I want whatever one will be the fastest and most reliable
  20. I have a decent (power user) load on the network. I have 2 NAS drives, one of which runs Plex, 10 computers, 6 phones, and a bunch of smart home stuff: Hue lights, harmony remote, nest, Sonos, ect. In your opinion would I notice a difference between the ACS1900 and the ERL?
  21. I'm not an expert, but i'm no dummy either. I have setup other network peripherals such as Freenas servers and feel pretty confident that i could setup the Ubiquiti hardware. Im just falling short on what makes them better. From what im getting is that the lite in particular is going to be faster and more reliable? Does the ACS have anything (besides the ap) that the Ubiquiti stuff doesn't?
  22. I've been doing some research on routers over the last few days and I like the Ubiquiti line of products. However I cant really tell the difference between their Router x and Router Lite (besides the obvious port differences). Could someone explain what the difference is -- And why someone would want one over the other? Also why would I want either when compared to something like the linksys ACS1900 (ignoring the AP functionality)? Thanks, Elliott35
  23. I have a triple play package from Comcast and I am getting charged $10/month for the equipment. I see a lot of good modems without the capability to do phone service but I cant seem to find any telephony modems or voice modems. Does anyone have a good suggestion? I need to be able to use my landline as well as my internet. I dont need any AP or router functionality with it as I am about to buy a separate router and I have AP's.
  24. Ive got a decent amount of ram so i wonder what kindof impact this has. Someone should do a test
