  1. Hello everyone, I build a new PC for my friend back in January. Ever since completing it she has been having an issue that out of nowhere her screens go black. By this we mean actual black is shown on the screens, so not lost input nor loss of backlight. After a few seconds they come back on but the stream has stopped on its own while the game is still running. The issue only occurs when she is both gaming on the PC it self and streaming it to twitch. If she doesn't stream no issue. If she streams an external device trough a capture card no issue. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes before the problem appears and other times it takes more then 6 hours. It's also not specific to a single game or point within the game. It's across multiple games regardless of what she's doing within the game. In the windows logs I get shown this error 3 times within a second: "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found". And if you google that, there is some threads that point towards the graphics driver. Which I've looked into. Besides that we've send the card in for warranty but both the reseller and the manufacture couldn't find anything wrong with the card and send it back to us. But during the 3 months the card was out she used a 1060ti and didn't have a single issue what so ever. PC specs: Things I've tried: All of my attempts to fix it have failed so far. If anyone can help me figure this one out, I'll be forever grateful. Kind regards from Belgium! log6.CSV
  2. Howdy everyone, So I had this old Asus N551JX laying around, buried somewhere. Until one of my classmates needed a laptop. I did a clean windows install on it and sold it to him. It worked fine except for the battery that needed replacing. So he bought a new battery and used the laptop for 2 weeks. Until he send me the attached video this morning. He said he just let windows do some updates yesterday night with the power supply plugged in and left the laptop. He also mentioned he had cleaned the laptop with a dry cloth. And then this behavior started this morning. So I took the following trouble shooting steps, and retested in between every step. - Power up and press F2 (bios key) - Power up and press F9 (recovery tool key) - Removed SSD and power up - Removed SSD, power up and press F2 - Removed SSD, power up and press F9 - Replaced the SSD with a bootable windows HDD - Disassembled the laptop, checked all the wires and reconnected them - Removed CMOS battery, left it out for a few minutes, replaced it with a known good one from my PC - Removed power supply and battery, held the power button for a minute, reconnected the battery - Removed power supply and battery, held the power button for a minute, reconnected the power supply - Removed one (out of two) RAM stick - Replaced the RAM stick that was still in the system with the one I removed - Checked the voltage of the power supply, which was correct. But what ever I did, I got the same result as the first video. Only when I removed the disk reader, wireless card and SSD, I managed to get into the BIOS for a hot second. After which it shut down again. This is what you see in the second video. So is the BIOS corrupted or is this some power issue? I tried inserting a flash drive with the most recent BIOS, behavior remains the same. Without the ability to get into the BIOS, I don't think I can do a EZ flash. 3. Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some tips and opinions on my partpicker list. Any room for improvement? Someone helped me with it in this topic a few months back. So not sure if much has changed in the component world. Also I'm not too sure on the SSD and case fans that I picked. 4. Howdy @coffeecake! I only just noticed your comment. And I haven't been able to test your tip yet. But my laptop is docked every time I get this ticking, so the audio is passed trough the dock to my headset. I can try to mute the audio but don't think it will do much since the laptop speakers aren't in use. And the other side of it is that the ticking only happens when I place my laptop in the stand vertically and give it some load. As soon as I take it out of the stand and hold it horizontally, while still docked and under load, the ticking stops. I never get the noise when the laptop is just flat on a desk. Regarding the performance issues, ever since I stopped using Twincat the issues disappeared. No crashes or freezing. I also have no issues with a black display, but then I don't use the intel graphics command center. Regarding thermals, the laptop does get pretty warm when under a heavy load, but that's fine for me as long as it's within reason. Since it's on a dock and in a stand I don't mind it getting warm. It does get some nice airflow when in the stand so I'm not too concerned about that. And if I need to use it on the go I just use the windows performance slider to tone it down a bit. So for me the laptop is doing pretty well, with the ticking being the only issue right now. So 9/10 for me. I hope you have better luck with yours. Only tip I can give is to stay up-to-date with all the firmware and driver updates. They keep pushing so many of them it's hard to keep track of sometimes. Dell SupportAssist should help with that. Kind regards!
  5. Hello everyone! I didn't think I was going to need these so soon, but with my new monitors in I struggle with my current peripherals. So I want to spend the money now to upgrade and "never" needing to upgrade again. Budget: €300, Netherlands / Belgium (I might be able to stretch if nothing comes up in this price range) What: Wireless keyboard and mouse Use case: Gaming, casual games as well as competitive shooters, electrical drawings, 3d drawings, programming, lot of essays and schoolwork to write. Notes: According to this topic, I have a large hand at L = 20cm & W = 10cm With my corsair M65 in hand, my palm ends up fully resting on the mouse pad. So it doesn't feel my hand is in a "resting" position since most weight is still supported by myself and not the mouse. I currently have a mechanical keyboard with cherry mx brown switches, but I only bought it because people said it was the one to have for gaming. I honestly don't know if I need a mechanical one or not. I like RGB, but it's not a requirement Required features: Seamless switching between 2 systems. (PC = USB type A, Laptop = Bluetooth / type A / type C) Rechargeable, preferably type C A few macro keys on both the keyboard and mouse would be nice Comfortable mouse is really important Wrist rest Keyboard back lighting I don't need the best of the best latency, I'm not that competitive. Just some rainbow six siege, gta 5 and Squad from time to time. I appreciate any recommendations that I can get. Kind regards from the Netherlands!
  6. Hello everyone, So I recently started using Twincat 3 for school. It's used to program PLC's and run simulations. But when I started using this software the laptop started acting up. One time my entire system just froze and generally when I use the software the system gets quite warm to the touch. Since I use the laptop on a dock when at home, I figured to get a vertical laptop stand so the laptop can have some good access to fresh air. So the stand arrived today, I hook up the laptop and place it in the stand. A little while later while using the software again I get a blue screen. Only after which I started noticing this weird clicking noise coming from the laptop when the fan is spinning at higher speeds. I'm not sure if this sounds like something that's stuck in the fan or if it sounds like a short. And I'm hesitant to call dell since they will probably tell me to send in the unit. I need my laptop and I can't do without to be honest. VID_20210315_205148.mp4 So should I be concerned about the noise? I'm not too concerned about the freezing of the system or the blue screen. Since I think it has to do with the software and I'm actually planning on switching over to Siemens TIA Portal V16 entirely. Thanks in advance! And greetings from the Netherlands.
  7. I build this back in late 2017, and it was already obsolete within 2 years. There is basically no good way of upgrading it either. I'd need a new case, new cpu (maybe a new motherboard as well?), new gpu, new power supply. So I better just build a entirely new system. The samsung 850 evo and another 8gb of kingston are not on this screenshot but are in the system right now btw. I just regret every decision I made on that pc.
  8. If I were to buy a new gpu, it would definitely be something like a 3060 / 3060ti / 3070. I'll just have to wait till they do come out here.
  9. Hello everyone, I think it's time to start on that new build I've been in desperate need off for like 2 years now. I was told that the price influx in pc parts has toned down a little and I'll be starting to look out for some parts here and there. But I still need some advice on what I should be getting. 1. Budget & Location: Netherlands / Belgium, €1800 (including a case and all that's inside, not including peripherals) 2. Aim: I just want a responsive system with which I can crank some game settings and run it just fine. Games: Grand theft Auto 5, Rainbow Six Siege, F1 2020, Squad, Mount and Blade Bannerlord 2, City Skylines Software: Autocad (very minor use, no big assemblies), Eplan, TIA portal V16, Siemens Simatic S7, Microsoft office, web browsing and OBS (I record a lot of my game play, not for streaming) 3. Monitors I just ordered 3 new monitors, all 27" 1440P 144Hz. Mostly for multitasking purposes. I do not plan to game 3x 1440P at 144hz, just 1 screen at 1440P 144Hz should be good for those earlier mentioned games. However, having other things open on those 2 extra screens while playing at high settings would be ideal. 4. Peripherals I will be needing some new peripherals at some point, but not until I actually have a good system. So there will be time and budget for that later. 5. Why are you upgrading? On my previous build I cheap'd out on every single component, which was a mistake. Case is just horrible, I only used the included case fans, which are terrible, I5-7600 with the stock cooler, Asus prime B250 and a 1050ti. It doesn't run games very well. Minimal settings on everything basically. And the 1050ti only has 1HDMI and 1DP, which won't work with my new 3 screen set up, let alone resolution wise. And lastly, both my 1TB HDD and 250GB SSD are always near full. I'll probably re-use the drives and sell old the system without one. Or maybe it's beter to leave them in the old system? I don't know. 6. Please, No Dream Builds So I was thinking of going team red this time. Some people recommended me a Ryzen 5 3600, with a B550 board. And I'd like 32GB of ram if possible within the budget. If not 16GB will do for now. The drives I have right now are a Seagate Barracuda 1TB for games and footage + a Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD for my OS and software. So what I'm looking for is some advice on the core components. CPU, mother board, psu, gpu, ram and drives. The case, fans and general theme of the build I'll decide on later once I know my core components. I think a ryzen 5 3600 would be a good fit for me but when I go look for a board I just don't know what to choose and why, I don't know what ram clock speed goes with which board, Do I want a M.2 SSD or a regular SSD? And some other stuff that I'm clueless about. On my previous build I just sorted by cheapest so it wasn't too hard to figure out what worked together. So if you guys can help me pick out some specific parts that would be amazing. Thanks in advance!
  10. What power supply did you get with your WD19TB?
  11. Hello everyone! So I've recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9500 (i7-10750H). I'm now looking to upgrade my home setup entirely. I just can't seem to figure out what it is that I need. Dell also doesn't give much advice on this and leaves it up to the customer to do the research. So here is my plan: New gaming rig 3 way monitor setup Dell dock for my XPS 15 So I want to be able to play on the gaming rig with 3 screens, as well as use the 3 screens in combination with my laptop for productivity at 3x FHD 60Hz with the help of a dock. I might even switch up sometimes where I use both systems at the same time and use 2 screens for the rig and one for the laptop. So when I go to the dell website and shop for accessories for the XPS 15 I get 2 "suitable" options: WD19 & WD19TB. How ever the 9500 isn't specifically mentioned in their manual as supported device. Then for 3x FHD 60Hz I'd need "HBR3" in the case of the WD19 and "2x HBR2" in the case of the WD19TB. Which I don't know if I have or not and where to look for it. And then the issue of power, my XPS 15 came with a 130W power supply. But will my system actually charge up when being used in combination with a 130W dock and 3 screens hooked up to it? If I could get some advice on this that would be much appreciated. I'm also not sure on what screens I'm going to buy yet so if there is anything I need to look out for to accomplish the above please let me know. Greetings from the Netherlands!
  12. Not sure how this will weigh in on your decision, but let me tell you this: I just had the greatest customer support experience with dell. Like literally 5 min ago. Bought a brand new XPS 15 in November. Took delivery today. Out of the box noticed a small imperfection. Called dell, explained the damage, he asked me if I'd be willing to keep the laptop rather then have it exchanged, I told him yes, straight out of the gate offered me a 10% money back. €174,25 for that little bit of damage. You can't even see it with your bare eyes, I only noticed it because I felt it with my finger. The support rep was even honest about knowing that in production stuff like this can happen and he's seen it a few times already. He didn't even ask for a picture, he believed me on my word. Night and day compared to the horrible customer experience I received at HP when I got 2 broken HP Spectre x360. I know that has nothing to do with apple. But I just wanted to put that out there.

  14. For productivity reasons I'd prefer 3 monitors and have the side ones vertically. Which will hopefully allow me to have 5 open windows at once, 2 on each side and the main thing I'm working full sized on the centered display. With a utlra wide it will be though managing 5 windows at once. And then for gaming reasons I don't think I'll be able to get high refresh rates and 1ms pixel response time on a ultra wide. And as far as I'm aware is the ultra wide support limited in games. I don't really plan on playing games on 3 screens, maybe I'll try it with a racing game or a flight sim once or twice. But not really a goal. And lastly, I'll probably be adding a laptop dock to my setup. So having multiple displays gives me more versatility in what screen I'll be using on what device.
