I am currently in the market for an RTX 3080 build. Obviously this is dependent on if anything comes available anytime soon and whether or not AMD's "big navi" is really close to 3080 performance and the ray tracing and drivers aren't a problem. I do have my concerns about the 10GB VRAM for the 3080. However, I keep hearing rumors about a supposed 20GB model. Here's something I'm wondering about. Will RTX IO in newer games make up for the less memory? If data can be streamed over to the GPU on the fly directly from a high speed SSD, it would make sense that less memory would be used. On top of this, I believe that the bandwidth of GDDR6X would help reduce VRAM consumption (If I'm interpreting the last part of this article correctly: https://itigic.com/gddr6x-vs-gddr6-graphics-memory-comparison/). Am I correct when I say this, or am I completely off? If I am correct, then what is Nvidia's reason for releasing a 20GB model?
Would it be to give customers a peace of mind that the 20GB model will have the extra headroom, even if they don't need it (all the while Nvidia is able to get more money out of them).
AND/OR
Is it because they want to offer a lower end option for content creators, given that large VRAM consumption is a thing for them.
AND/OR
Are they doing this to try and steal AMD's thunder since their card is going to have 16GB of VRAM?
At this time, I will be going 1440p 144hz, but will be considering 4K 60hz for casual gameplay.
