  1. More SSDs. My goal is to completely eliminate mechanical storage everywhere but my server. I'm keeping my eye on the prices of those mx100s...
  2. The only speed up you might get (depending on how old the 500 gig drive is) will be from loading the game, but it won't be all that noticeable, and you certainly won't get an FPS bump.
  3. Hey folks, just wanted to let y'all know that there is a student deal ending soon at Dell.com/dellu. The neat thing with Dell's student discount is that you don't actually *need* to be a student. Just use this link: https://app.dell.com/consumer/enroll/stutablet/lookup.cfm . All you have to do is select "purchasing for a student", and pick a college or university, and you're set. In addition to laptops and such, they also have a few monitors and TVs, including a $400 27in 1080p panel. On it's own it's really not a great value (and for enthusiasts that PPI is not awesome), but with the tablet deal this might be a good buy to knock out 2 Holiday gifts. If you don't go to a university or want to give me a hat tip (but you don't have to), put in University of Texas Arlington : ). I don't get anything from it, but I know that the school does get a little kickback from each sale.
  4. Thanks for that input. That's what I've been wondering now for a little bit.
  5. Damnit guys, you've only made this harder for me. So, here's what I've gathered so far: AKG Q701- $200- Great for Vocals, but that top bad looks really uncomfortable, which is my main complaint with the X10s, also $$$ ATH-AD700X- $150- minimal base, but clear vocals, and I like the price, though stock seems to be pretty scarce Sennheiser HD598- $190- Great for the music I like. If these were at 150, I wouldn't be having this issue right now... BD 990 Pro 250 Ohm- $150- Loved by the masses, however nobody is saying why... I like the fact that it is high(er) impedance, as from what I have read for the kind of music I like this is an advantage Sony MDR-1R- $160- Could be a bit uncomfortable, but I have an opportunity to get these pretty cheap, so that's pretty tempting. Thanks everybody so far for your help. Luckily I'm in no hurry to buy (as I have to return my Nvidia Shield to Amazon before buying anything else), but at this point I'm debating between the AKG, Sennheiser, and DT990. The Sony and the AT seem like they are being retired/replaced soon. Anymore advice would be appreciated, although you guys have already helped a bunch.
  6. Hey everybody, its been a long time since I've posted here and I have a pretty big and long-winded question that needs answering. If you don't want to read this, then skip to the bottom and I'll have a TL;DR. I currently have a pair of Sony X10s, which are not bad, especially for the money, but are just not very comfortable over a long period of rime, specifically the rock-hard headband. I also have Corsair SP2500 speakers that I love, currently hooked up to my MSI Z77 MPower (had an ASUS Xonar DGX, but the software was causing crashes with Starbound, and removing really didn't do anything to my sound quality anyway). What I listen to: Americana, Folk, Blues, Classic Rock. Raspy, yet clear vocals are really important to me. I wouldn't mind them having tight bass for the occasional movie or FPS, however the X10s and my Corsairs are more than fine for those. I have definitely decided on a few things: 1- I don't want to spend more than $200 on headphones 2- I am definitely getting a DAC- my soundcard in my laptop has some issues anyway, so I figure if it doesn't make my desktop sound WAY better than with my internals, at least I'll get some additional use out of it. 3- From what I have read and listened to, I am looking for an open circumaural set. I have tried a few pairs on at my local Magnolia (which doesn't have any of the headphones I am looking at, otherwise I wouldn't be asking), and I really loved the Sennheiser HD650s (which are way out of my price range) I tried on more than anything else. They were stupidly comfortable and sounded great even through my Nexus 5. As a secondary question, how similar are the 598s to the 650s in terms of fit and finish? If they are close enough than I'll probably get the 598s. TL;DR: Paired with (probably) a Fiio E10, what should I get? Sennheiser HD598- $190 BeyerDynamic 990 Pro 250 Ohm- $150 Sony MDR-1R- $160 Open to other suggestions- just keep in mind my prices are usually from Amazon and would prefer to order from there, although I am willing to order elsewhere.
  7. This, plus a Leap Motion... Would be awesome! Although, unlike the Leap, I might actually buy this...
  8. I really don't like green, so this wasn't my favorite challenge. I chose to make a green an accent for the most part, with lighting and RAM being the only bits with green in them. Everything is Matte black and grey. 9. I look for something with Noctuas. If it has Noctuas in it, then it is legit.
  10. The R4 really is silent AND pushes a decent amount of air. I haven't seen a P280 in person, but from what I have experienced with Antec is that their fans are really lackluster. The drive cages on the R4 are the most solid and well though out design on the market IMO. If you are looking for another (probably) less expensive silent case, check out the Bitfenix Ghost. It does a pretty decent job overall while having some neat features the more stodgy R4 and P280 don't. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6442/bitfenix-ghost-case-review-begging-for-the-premium-treatment/5
  11. I'm going to try and keep this simple: My AsRock Pro4-m is all but dead at this point and I need to replace it. I have a budget of $400, but any money I save will be put towards MOAR Noctua products and maybe a new PSU. Microcenter currently has a deal where I can get a 4670k and a MSI GD-65 Gaming MoBo for $350 with tax. Now, I did some research and it looks like I could easily get $150 for my 3570k on Ebay, making the total cost of my upgrade about $200. HOWEVER: What if I was to buy a high end z77 board, such as an MPower or a Sabertooth, which are on sale @ Newegg for 199.99 and 189.99 @ Microcenter respectively (and the Mpower comes with some RAM I don't need)??? What would you guys do and what would you have/recommend? What features of Z87 convinced you to upgrade or plan to upgrade? I'm really disappointed on a whole that there aren't many/any black motherboards with white accents, as that would really look great in my system. The most important thing for me about a motherboard is that it lacks any really bright color scheme all over the place. I could probably live with GD65's dragons, but I'd really wish they were white instead of red. I REALLY like the z87 Sabertooth but I just don't know if it is worth going over budget for. Places I can/prefer to/usually buy from: Microcenter (tax) Newegg NCIX Amazon (tax) Fry's (tax) The faster I can do this the earlier I can publish my build!
  12. The Twitters: https://twitter.com/WitzTechPC/status/344078564334923776 Thanks WD!
  13. My vote is for the R4 in black. Just note that the white ones (what I have), have a red power LED, not blue.
  14. Newer chipsets use such little power compared to what they used to that I haven't come across many laptops that get really uncomfortable (HP and Sony are exceptions). If heat is a major concern, ASUS has put some thought into thermal design recently ("IceCool"). I have an Asus X501, which is one of the machines advertised as having a thermal design that keeps the keyboard and trackpad cool. The best way to figure this out is to head into one of the big box stores towards the end of the day. All of the machines have been on for 10+ hours straight, so you should get a good idea of what temps will be on a daily basis. Even if they don't have the exact model you want, as long as it is the same series you will get a general idea.
