  1. Lol, yeah I agree - I was worried someone might pick up on the way I put it ;) That's what I'm worried about as well. I'm interested in a 2080Ti replacement from the Ampere range and I don't really want to pull the trigger on a $1400 card that's on 8nm and will be refreshed probably sooner than later. Thanks for summarizing all the info above, I guess we'll have to wait and see - could be worse.
  2. Do we have ‚confirmation‘ from a reliable leaker that the 3090 is TSMC? I thought so far it‘s just wishful thinking, but I haven’t kept up with the massive of amount of leaks in the last couple of days, so I‘d be happy to learn more about this
  3. I was planning my build (‚4900x‘ or 4950x + 3090) in the ROG Z11 case - if that thing is ever being released. I wonder if ASUS accounts for the size of their 3090 or if I have to go ATX.
  4. Agreed, though I‘ve been told that Microsoft‘s Flight Simulators always had system requirements for ultra settings that would only be achieved by future hardware. The last one I played was 2000 IIRC and all I can personally say is that it ran shitty on my dad‘s Brand new PC back then too. RDR2 definitely improved due to optimizations (I assume?) but Flight Sim will be great to put Ampere and Big Navi to the test.
  5. Yeah, I feel like a lot of people underestimate the amount of indie- or esports-titles they end up playing that don‘t really leverage a 2080/3080ti/3090. I certainly do lol

Just this morning I stumbled across Hardware Unboxed's latest video (Ryzen vs. Intel for Ampere review) and in this video they benchmarked current games at 1080p, 1440p and 4k on both 3950x and 10900K. There was like a ~2-3% performance gain with the 3950X @ 4k IIRC. I'll add the link to the video later when I'm home. I'm sure there's better sources, but as I just watched the video this morning I thought I'd reply

  11. I was hoping to find a 2x32gb kit with flat timings like that. Only one I found was a 2x16 Trident Z Neo kit with 16-16-16-36.
  12. Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking that maybe a 4000MHz kit with the same timings as a 3600MHz kit has more potential of tightening timings when one clocks the 4000MHz kit lower. I wasn't aware of rev e dies - In my mind those higher end kits were most likely (not definitely, I know) B-die. This is my first time building an RGB rig and I'm looking for RGB ram specifically (I know how stupid this sounds, I was always one to go for non-RGB and pure performance, but I just want to go for it for once as I'm finally able to build an entirely new rig and not just upgrade some parts). I was hoping to find some sweet G.Skill kit because that would perfectly sync with Aura Sync. Oh wow, that's good to know, thank you. Exactly what I was wondering: is it even worth to go through the hassle of getting a more expensive 4000 kit and messing with it over a 3600 kit with equal timings? My workload is ~55% gaming while streaming (technically also paid work) and ~45% work with premiere pro, after effects, animateCC and photoshop - just a little bit of music production, but that's more of a hobby and not paid work.
  13. Hello everyone, currently trying to pick a ram kit for my planned build. It'll be ITX, so I'm looking for a 2x32GB kit. At first glance I only found 3600MHz 18-22-22-42 kits by both G.Skill (Trident Z Neo) and Corsair (Vengeance RGB Pro). I have now found a Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro kit (CMW64GX4M2K4000C18) with 4000MHz 18-22-22-42. Would it make sense or is it even possible to set the memory speed to 3600MHz (for Ryzen 3000 and possibly 4000) and tighten timings instead? Or is this way too much headache and not feasible?

Quick update on this topic: I haven't really gotten much feedback on any forum that I posted and after doing more research and comparing different builds I decided to settle for non-RGB Noctua Chromax fans and the G.Skill kit with tighter timings instead of both Corsair QL and Vengeance RGB Pro ram. It's all going into an Asus ROG Z11 case (I hope it releases in time for Ryzen 4000) and I think the black fans look much cleaner, plus I'm starting to really dig the Noctua fans. I might put an LED strip or two in the build if I find 1-2 spots where they aren't in your face and just provide some indirect ambient lighting. The G.Skill kit is just faster and works with Aura Sync flawlessly, so that's why I settled for that one instead. Performance > design basically, although I gotta admit that I start to prefer the non-rgb/g.skill variant even design-wise. If Corsair updates iCue and includes Aura Sync aRGB headers I might rethink my decision. I will definitely let you know in this post if there are any updates regarding the compatibility between iCue and Aura Sync as I think that I'm not the only one who's interested in that. Oh and another follow-up question as well (if someone even reads this, lol): Anybody got an idea where I can get Asus/ROG logo decals or stickers for fan hubs? I know that 2-3 are included with some Asus hardware, but I need 5-6 total. Those might be the perfect finish to the Noctua fans ;).
