  1. Hi all, I'm currently using four SATA ports for a disk reader and three HDD drives (4TB each). My other two SATA ports are blocked by the two NVMe cards I have installed into my motherboard. This PC is my primary photo/video editing PC and I've run out of storage. I had purchased a PCIe SATA controller card to add six more SATA ports to the PC, and at first, it seemed to work just fine but I quickly realized that when I put the PC to sleep, the card doesn't start up properly upon waking the PC. The drives attached to the card were no longer visible. If I disabled and then enabled the driver, the drives would be recognized again. Anyway, I was hoping to use a PCIe SATA expansion card because it seemed like the cheapest option and I had three HDD bays open with the case along with three SSD bays open, so a 6 port card seemed perfect. I've tried looking for a card that's highly rated with more than a couple reviews, but really didn't find much... Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated, whether its a product that can add more SATA ports to my PC for internal storage or thoughts on why the driver seems to fail upon wake. I have started looking at external cases for holding multiple HDDs and connect via USB, but these seem so much more expensive than a card... TIA.
  2. I've nearly run out of patience with this card/issue, any further ideas before I look for other solutions?
  3. Thanks, I appreciate it. I did some research regarding the controller, it seems like a common issue with it a few years ago had to do with a virtualization setting in BIOS, which I'm unsure of how to fix. I did find an "Intel Virtualization Tech" setting in BIOS that I disabled, but it did not fix the issue. Also, I checked the driver version, and have found other forums stating a newer version number but I can't seem to find the file online. Also, this screen appears just before the MSI splash screen when booting up. This never appeared before installing the card, and clearly is related to the card. I haven't pressed space to continue yet though.
  4. Okay, I've found it, I believe. After sleep, the drives are not visible. I went under "Storage Controllers" in Device Manager, I found Marvell 92xx SATA 6G Controller. I disabled, then enabled, and the drives are now visible again. So, short term fix found, not difficult to do. Any ideas on a permanent fix?
  5. I could not find the card in System Devices in Device Manager, after boot (when drives are visible) or after sleep (when drives are gone).
  6. Can you point to where in Device Manager I'd find the PCIe add on? EDIT: I've attached a screenshot of Device Manager of System Devices. This is the same list after reboot and after sleep, no change.
  7. Yeah, unfortunately I couldn't find a card that was "reliable." The thing is is, it is reliable. It's behaving consistently the same, the drives only going missing after waking from sleep. I'm not familiar with BIOS settings, but my initial thought is that the problem might lay with the motherboard not recognizing the card after waking...
  8. Hi all, I've got some experience in building PCs, but I am by no means experienced. Anyway, I've run out of SATA ports on my motherboard, so I picked up a PCIe expansion card with six more SATA ports. I installed it into an open PCIex1 slot on my motherboard, connected two WD Blue 4TB drives, booted up, and installed the driver from included CD. Had no trouble finding the drives in Disk Management and creating simple volumes, and transferring data onto them (H: and R: drives). See three attached images with filenames "BeforeSleep". The problem that I have encountered is if I put the PC to sleep and wake up later, the drives are completely missing! The card has LED indicator lights, with two lights showing the card is getting power and connected to two drives, but the drives no longer appear in "Devices and Drives" in "My PC", nor do they appear in "Device Manager" under "Disk Drives". See two attached images with file names "AfterSleep". I rebooted the PC, reinstalled the driver, but the issue persists. I've attached screenshot of the events log for one of the drives (the log is seemingly identical on both drives) after a reboot. I'm on Widnows 10, version 2004. Mobo is a MSI Tomahawk Z370. Expansion card linked here. Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
