My schoolmate says it's time to upgrade his gaming pc (Intel i5 4670k).
He plans to build an m-atx gaming rig, he's thinking of getting an ryzen r5 5600x, since it's just for gaming and schoolworks.
He has an budget of usd$170.00
Any suggestions for b550 m-atx boards?
Thanks

b550 do not support ryzne 2000. get a decent b450 board like b450 pro 4 / tomahawk max etc, no need to bios update. and they probably support ryzen 5000 aster january.
I read the title and I was like "your friend's mother died"?
Darn no support,
Ps : his mom is alive and kickboxing and looking hot doing it.

His asrock m-atx b450 board croaked and he runs a 2000 series cpu, if he gets a b550 board will they work together?
Warranty expired

with a tight budget, go for the 3700x, so that she doesn't have to change motherboard too.
Either way she needs to change the mb it's bios can't be updated the rev 1 version won't allow the bios update for 3000 series it's dead in the water. I checked with gigabyte.

If she's on a tight budget, the 5600X will work fine, and is stil an upgrade over a 1700X in rendering and encoding workloads.
Notes: Zen 3 currently benefits significantly from Quad-DIMM configurations. It is my reccomendation to buy a 2nd set of 8 GB 3200 CL14 DIMM's, and run it together with the older memory.
Those cl 14s she got were from a lucky draw, you can't find cl 14s cheap in Singapore.
They are expensive as ****.
I'll get her a quad set of cl15s.

Leona system use :
Gaming, streaming, editing YouTube videos (cooking tutorial videos), doing her taxes.
Her original rig
CoolerMaster NR400 - (upgraded last year)
Ryzen r7 1700x
CoolerMaster hyper 212 Black (upgraded last year)
Gigabyte GA-AX370m - ds3h(rev1)
Corsair lpx 3200mhz cl14 16gb - 8gb x2 sticks (1st gen)
Crucial m.2 sata ssd 1tb
Western digital black 6tb hdd
Gigabyte GTX 1070ti twin fan
CoolerMaster MWE gold 550W 550w 80+ gold
System update.
CoolerMaster NR400 - reuse
Ryzen r5 5600x or ryzen r7 5800x
CoolerMaster hyper 212 Black - reuse
Asus tuf gaming b550m ax
G.skill trident z neo rgb 3200mhz cl15 32gb 16gb x 2 sticks
Crucial m.2 sata ssd 1tb - reuse
Western digital black 6tb hdd - reuse
Rtx 3070 or rx 6800 - undecided
CoolerMaster MWE gold 850w 80+ gold - (upgrade)
Question : she's wondering can the 5600x handle her workload, or does she have to spend the extra on an 5800x ?
She's on a quite tight budget.

I would go with the better CPU and a B450 board provided he doesn't have an express need for PCIe 4.0 (since it's only officially supported on B550/x570 chipsets). As long as it's not a bottom-tier B450 board and he doesn't intend to overclock it will be just fine.
EDIT - Caveat with the 5800x is it does not come with a cooler, so that cost would have to be factored in unless he plans to re-use the one from the 1700x.
We plant reuse the wraith from his 1700x,it should work right?

I have a classmate that streams and makes YouTube cooking tutorial videos often,he still has an first generation ryzen r7 1700x and x370 in his system, he plans to change out the cpu and board for an 5000 series and a b550 board with his limited budget he can get either a good cpu a cheaper board or a 5600x and a better board. Which is the better choice?
A. Ryzen r5 5600x and a b550 asus board
B. Ryzen r7 5800x and a b450 asrock board
(both are m-atx form)

The volume of air you are pushing through the case will be significantly less than the amount of aor being filtered by a standalone air filter/air con. The air filter will reduce the number of dust particles in the volume of air in your room so dust being collected from the air in your room into the pc dust filters will be minimal. Monthly or quarterly cleaning is still advisable as it will still concentrate the particles on the filters.
Selling it will increase your budget or give you some money back for a pc you could game on but why have 2 devices which do the same thing?
With the money you get from selling you can step up to the 6900xt
Personally I run one PC but have in the OS switchable desktops so one is working /creating with no distractions and the other is gaming
For CAD yes but it's just saving time loading models, printing will be the same and moving large files is faster if you are doing backups
PSU - could use a bump up to 850w to keep the platinum in the highest efficiency range, it's a few percent but always better to over provision a bit for extended renders or game sessions when you can get close to 100% psu load with some of the spikes 3080's are showing.
5 hours ago, Letgomyleghoe said:get 2x16 so you can upgrade later
no its not
it will trap dust and keep it from circulating in your room, should be better actually
5 hours ago, Letgomyleghoe said:the system should actually stay around 80% usage at max, its plenty fine at that wattage, lets say the 3080 consumes 420w (100 over tdp) 5900x consumes 125w (20 over tdp) and another 30 for the rest of the system only adds up to 575w, keep in mind your system is almost never at full power like this except in benchmarking
Thank you everyone, ghost roadie bl I might run my system as you said I'll split the system thanks.

I have saved up sgd$3000 just for this project, I'm switching from my silent ceberus to an m-atx system (Hades). This is my system plans but I have some questions on what I could save some money on.
Case : Fractal design meshify c mini tg (dark edition) - I chose this case because of the mesh filters and ease of removing them to clean, my dad added an air filtration/air conditioner in to my room since he found out I'm allergic to dust mites. Question : will the case mesh filter make it worse for me? Can it trap dust easier?
CPU : Ryzen r9 5900 - I do a lot of 3d designing, cad work, 3d printing and plan I plan to use ceberus for gaming to not waste it. Question : or should I part it out and sell them? Which is a better option?
Motherboard : AsusTuf gaming B550m - (WiFi) - saving a few dollars off from getting an X570 board plus I hearths fans on the boards whine and I hate whiners (lol). Question : is the WiFi part a need? I'll be plugging the system into my house's wired router/modem and from the case size I won't be be moving it much.
RAM : G.skill trident Z rgb neo 3600mhz cl15 32gb (quad sticks) looks much better in configuration compared to dual lonely sticks and a little rgb to bighten the day (purple breathing).
Storage 1: Western digital Black nvme 1tb m.2 ssd - (os/programs) Question : does nvme really make much difference compared to an standard sata m.2 for os and my printing/cad software ?
Storage 2 :Western digital Blue m.2 2tb sata ssd - (standard storage)
GPU :??? - Unknown yet I'm waiting to see the performance of the amd cards, before I try to get an 3080.
PSU : Fractal design ion + 760W 760w 80+ platinum (full moduar/silent mode).
Fans : Lian Li Uni fans SL120 120mm fans (x7 peices)
CPU Cooler : Scythe fuma 2
Peripherals : (all peripherals from silent ceberus)
Samsung ultra wide 29 inch 1440p 120fps 1m-sec (games or school class chats)
Lg 34 inch 4k 120fps 1 m-sec (for 3d work use/sometimes 4k movies)
Asus TUF gaming K3rgb keyboard (red linear switch- gateron)
Steel series m1100

It is a good ssd but it is a bit more expensive then an NVMe ssd bye say crucial or kingston. So if you are on a budget then use something like the Western Digital WD Blue SN550 or Western Digital WD BLACK SN750. But it depends on what you like.
Thanks will check those out, I'm not on a budget but I try not to overspend on places I could save.
I want to have a little more budget so I could get a better cpu or gpu,

I was thinking of using it in a gaming build as the system main storage (os, programs,)
I'm wondering is it a good one? Or are there betteroption for around the same price.

Crucial MX500 1tb m.2 ssd
WD Black 4tb hdd
Powercolor Red dragon Vega 64
WiFi card
Corsair ax850i
She's thinking of replacing the cpu, gpu and increasing the ram,
Her budget is usd$1500.

They are always 300x300 mm. He propably has glass or buildtak. So just ask the guy if he can print PETG. If you are limited to PLA make sure no part will get close to 50 °C or it might bend.
OK thank you.

CR-10 max are 450x450 mm base and higher priced printer can easily go in the 1000 mm range.
Some commercial machines removing limitations of the 2.5D printer by using a 5 axis approach. Other experimental setups just use industrial robots like Kuka make.
Anyway you can still make multiple parts even reasonably priced printer like the CR-10 are 300x300 mm base plate.
I think someone I know has a cr10 not sure about the baseplate tho

I was thinking of designing my own m-atx case project, but I'm not sure if there are any printers big enough to print the parts?

The GMMK that kelvin mentioned is a hotswappable board.
All you have to do is push the keyswitches in, put the keycaps atop and youre done
11 minutes ago, kelvinhall05 said:And adding onto this, lubing is completely optional, and keycaps? Really? That's the easiest part...
Is the keyboard ten keyless or 60%.
I hope it's ten keyless.
Do you have a link to the kit?

I'm not sure how it would take you an hour to push switches in. 10 minutes max...
Sodering takes time too... And lube.... And caps....

Outemus are trash, Kalih is superior to MX.
I wouldn't get that keyboard. Get a GMMK.
Not interested in spending an hour putting a keyboard together. But thanks for the suggestion.

Probably cheap clones, I'd guess Outemu or maybe Kalih.
Are they any good?
Kinda interested it's original price is about$120.00 usd.

I saw the keyboard on sale 40% off, it says its machanical keys but does not state which key type it is.
I tried checking YouTube and the Asus website there are no videos on it nor is it stated on the Asus site.
Im thinking of getting the red linear ones does anyone know what switches are they.
Plans for my schoolmate's updated pc on a budget.

Is that board cheaper?
We picked this cos it was cheaper then the Asus tuf gaming b550m plus WiFi.
