  1. Have you adjusted the fan values in the BIOS? Try putting them to a 3500rpm or 100% value for all temps to see if they will ramp up and cool the chip down. If they do, then adjust accordingly for each temp. If they don't then make sure you put enough thermal paste, can't have too much but you can have too little. Make sure all 4 posts are down as tight as they will go. Still no good? Verify the bar that hold down the cooler isn't bent. It needs to have good even pressure. Try bending it back a bit and remount. Make sure your fans are working together to blow air through the cooler, not accidentally both pushing or both pulling in the opposite direction. After that try manually setting the voltage to 1.10-1.25v and see if you can get lower temps with stable testing and go from there. Good luck!
  2. I just upgraded my son's PC with the B450M Steel legend and a 2700 and it's paired with a 2070 (video is up on youtube with my username) and I used 3200mhz cl16 ram. You won't notice a difference in gaming and with a 1600AF/2600 by stepping up to more expensive RAM....if you step up to a Ryzen 5 3600...you will may notice a difference with 3600mhz memory but only if you go with CL16 3600mhz...but in reality it will most likely just but better performance in benchmarks and not in real life. Honestly, the extra cost would be better spent on a better graphics card....like a 2060 or a 5700 in your case...but even then the difference between a 1600AF 1660 Super setup and a 3600 2060 setup will only be noticed if you have a high refresh rate monitor. If you don't have one and it's not in the near future, save your money as the 1600AF/1660 Super combo will be more than enough! Have fun and good luck building!
  3. It does seem odd that it has decided to start doing memory training after not having this issue. I'd try removing XMP profile off the memory to see if still does it, if it does then maybe you just need to turn the timings down a bit or try a slower memory speed as it could be that one of the sticks is having issues. If nothing changes try lowering your CPU clock speed...again I'm assuming you have your 9900K overclocked...I mean if you have one why wouldn't you, right? I assume you tried clearing your CMOS, if not definitely do that and load optimized settings and run it like that.....and this one will sound odd, but it happened to me not long a go.....I had a mouse go bad that was causing all sorts of issues. Try unplugging every external device and try a new mouse and keyboard if you have a spare. Still not change, if you have another GPU, try that. Still no change, then you might try a new motherboard, but that's a lot of work and why I'm suggesting all these other options first. These things are frustrating but I'm sure you'll get there! Good Luck!
  4. MSI B450 Tomahawk is a Tier C Motherboard, which is more than enough to max out a 3700X. I've used it in a number of builds! Buy with confidence and it will work great!!
  5. I'd go for 32gb, I know you'll see an uptick in performance in benchmarks with CL16, but real world you'll notice better performance with 32GB.
  6. There has been no official confirmation, but it is understood that a AMD would be most likely moving to a new platform with Zen 4 (aka Ryzen 5000). So, I would not count on support and consider it good fortune if somehow it does have support.
  7. MSI has stated they will have support on ALL of their boards, even the "non" Max boards. Other manufactures have not yet committed to any strategy. But from what I understand ASUS was the least supportive of adding support...but it's each board manufacturers decision If you are going to wait and don't mind spending the extra for a B550, you will get PCIe 4.0 support and guaranteed Ryzen 4000 support. If that's important to you, the by all means wait.
  8. I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish...if you want better video editing, then something with more cores makes sense but to keep your current board you'd need to step up to a 9700 or 9900 and both of those are pricey upgrades and you'd be able to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 3700x and a good B450 Board for similar money. However, if video editing is your primary concern, then go another couple steps above a 3700X and get a 3900X with an X570 board. It will last you the time frame you're looking for. You probably won't notice a ton of difference in the gaming side of things but the video editing will be significantly faster. However, if you goal is better gaming performance, the a graphics card is a better upgrade. If you're a 1080p gaming then a 2060 or 5600Xt is the way to go, 1440p then a 2060 Super, 5700 XT or 2070 Super depending on your budget. Then consider the CPU upgrade if you're still not happy.
  9. When this sort of stuff happens to me, check the easy stuff first...unplug all your connections and make sure it's all plugged in nice and tight and make sure you have everything plugged in to the motherboard correctly, (ie you didn't forget to pug in the CPU power, etc.) .Run the RAM at default settings NOT the rated speed, PBO is off, etc....basically load defaults in the bios and see if it's stable there, if not try just one stick of RAM, still not stable, try the other, then try a different slot. Try reseating the CPU and ensure there isn't a film on the CPU cooler/ensure there is enough thermal paste and reinstall the cooler....ensuring it's down nice and snug... Try your video card in a different slot, try a different card if you have one....if all that fails it could be a bad board or other component...the key is to try and isolate it. I had one not a to long ago that was the cheap keyboard was causing issues...if you have other components give them a try! Good luck!!!
  10. I would enjoy a B450 now and then even see if PCIe 4.0 matters to you in the future and then you can upgrade. You'll save quite a bit of money now and have a board now. As to future support, MSI is the only on to come out and say they will have 4000 series support on their B450 and X470 motherboards....so that B450 Tomahawk Max is a great deal right now for $115!
  11. I would also suggest maybe a graphics card upgrade first....an i7-3770 isn't a terrible cpu, 4 cores 8 threads and runs at a decent speed. For the money of say a new intel Core i5-9600K (because the new 10600k is vaperware at this point) with a z390 MB, you're talking about $450 with a good cooler plus add another $75 for DDR4 memory...you are now at $525. For that money you're in lower spec 2070 Super price range. 2060 around $320, 5700 XT and 2060 Super around $400-$450 and 2070 Super for $500-$570. Pick what's in your budget and I think you'll be surprised and the results. BUT if you want to upgrade your CPU and Board, you could go the intel route above, but I'd recommend depending on your budget either an AMD 3600 (on sale for $167 at Amazon) or a 3700x ($275 at Amazon), use the stock cooler or pick one that you like and pair it with a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max for $115 and 16GB of Ram for around $75...that puts you at $357- $465....but I think you'll be happier with a new GPU first.
  12. Yes it will work, if you have a 1st Gen Ryzen you may not be entirely successful with 3600Mhz and may have to run it at a lower speed....like say 3200...but it should work just fine in any case.
  13. I'm just taking a stab in the dark here as it could be system related and not necessarily the GPU....some things to try....that aren't hard.....install the card in a different slot on the motherboard, make sure background apps have been stopped, run a cleaning program like advanced system care to clean up old garbage, if you have a spare drive....try a clean install on that so you don't "have to start fresh" if that doesn't fix it, make sure you have free space for cache on your main drive....beyond that...sure give a 2060 a whirl, they have similar performance.
  14. I've heard that the 10600K is going to be in short supply for the immediate future and my be a while before anyone has stock. My recommendation would be to step up to a 10700K or go with a Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 7 3700X. if you're 1440p gaming, you won't notice the frame rate difference and have a great system now and in the future.
