  1. I love @curiousmind34build, but I just want to make sure that you know that without the 3060 it wont have any display out options, so you might need to get a GTX 1030 (about the same gaming performance as the Ryzen 5 3400G w/ 16GB of ram at 3200mHz) as a stopgap until you can get your hands on a 'real gamer' GPU. Even with a 1030 you should be able to mess around in Valorant and CS:GO, just turn the sliders down. And then you'll have a GTX 1030 to hand down to a cousin or something so they can play roblox with their friends or whatever kids these days do lol
  2. lol i wiiiish I could get a 3060 but yeah I dig
  3. Budget (including currency): Under $1500 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office, Browsing Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Here's my PCPartPicker list but pleas read about what this build is for first! Recommended Specs Build My mom is exploring the idea of starting her own engineering firm and would need to build her own drafting and CAD rig for the first time in her career. I built this based off of AutoDesk's support page's recommended specs ( Autodesk Support Page ) and did my best from there. She needs all of the peripherals because she usually works for a firm that supplies everything and she usually just uses a laptop for personal stuff. So I just went with a good keyboard with tenkey under $50, a wireless mouse with side buttons under $50, and while I research monitors more on RTings I just went with a basic 1440p for size and resolution. I'm not entirely sure how much bulk storage she will need so I went with 2TB as a best guess, and a 256GB SSD for her OS and current projects. She says she just needs integrated graphics because she's not full 3D modeling, but I did some quick googling and read contrary to that??? If there are any professionals or people who build these kinds of workstations, I am desperate for feedback on what she actually needs. The rig I specced out for her is an intel core i3 10320 because it has onboard UHD630 so she can start with that, and if it's miserable she can upgrade to a Quadro K1200 for rendering. I read that AutoCAD is primary single thread loading, so I figured an i3 with hyperthreading would be enough for now and she can bump up to an i5 or i7 if she needs it later. I'm trying to keep the price down as much as I can (hence a single 8GB DIMM) because initial expenses suck, while letting her hit the ground running with room to upgrade if things go well *crosses fingers*. I would love some feedback from people on intel CPUs because I've done a lot less reading on Intel than I have on Ryzen. So I don't fully understand things like what generation to avoid, or if older SKU's are still worth it, that kind of stuff. Idk I'll take any feedback at this point lol I just want to build her something worth her money without making her go broke in the process. Many thanks, Madii and mom
  4. I think it's hard to say what a "2020 standard" is. Like, I think that it's super legit to say that the HP Envy I'm typing this on from ~2014 (iirc) running Linux Mint (Xfce) is not enough for gaming, but is basically a beefy chrome book. It's got an Intel dual core i3-4010U, running integrated graphics. And it's perfect for when my main laptop (2019 MBP 15") is being used for other activities. It's perfect for watching videos, working on files in my dropbox/ my class web pages, and other light things that accompany online school. My girlfriends company got all of the employees chromebooks, so those are obviously meeting somebodies minimum standard. But like, for creative work, I would say a suped-up 2011 MBP with an SSD and 16GB of RAM will get you through Adobe creative work with plenty of head room. Idk much about windows machines, so I can't speak to what a minimum can be over on that side of the fence. Or you can go with an iPad Pro from LTT's video on it lol, so that could arguably meet your "2020 standard" in some understanding of it. But all of these options fit their niche, and their niche only. I can't use this little LinuxBook or a chromebook to game. Maybe emulators for Snes and backwards, but I can't get league to run on this thing. In terms of a flexible machine to handle light creative work, game, and web browsing, I'm trying to build that very machine! I'm planning on grabbing a Ryzen 5 3400G with 16GB of dual channel memory to start with to run eSports titles at 720p low for a locked 60fps, and then upgrading to at least an AMD RX580 so that I can upgrade to 1080p OR 120fps. Imo, that meets a pretty good "2020 standard" to be bale to play games with my friends, eSports as a hobby, and some older AAA titles/ be ok with 30fps for more modern AAA titles. Idk. Kind of though vomiting. Just a broke college kids opinion, who is working around what a lot of us Western Gamers consider the lowest acceptable value.
  5. oh shoot! so a. ryzen 3 3100 wouldnt run on a b450? also I can definitely wait lol as long as prices are similar lol
  6. Budget (including currency): $300 - $500 USD Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch, League of Legends, indies, Emul*tion, Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): This is basically a follow up to my first post: I got some really awesome feedback and a really awesome parts list to look out for. But I've been hearing a lot of praise for the Athlon 3000G and wanted to look at something that focused on the price aspect of a 'value' rig as opposed to the performance aspect of 'value' and this is what I came up with. I tried to make sure that it had a clear upgrade path that utilizes used, midrange to highrange components to continue improving whenever new products come to market and everyone upgrades. From what I understand, this motherboard could move up to a ryzen 3 or maybe ryzen 5 when everyone jumps to 4th gen (soon) and a graphics card (RX 580) that will get the job done for now, and can grab GTX or even RTX when i get the budget for it. Let me know if I'm being crazy lol PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Athlon 3000G 3.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor $54.99 @ Newegg Motherboard MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $79.99 @ Newegg Memory Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $62.99 @ Newegg Video Card XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS XXX ED Video Card $169.99 @ Amazon Case Thermaltake Versa H15 MicroATX Mid Tower Case $50.89 @ Amazon Power Supply EVGA 550 W ATX Power Supply $61.42 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $480.27 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-05-14 17:46 EDT-0400 again, using ebay and stuff for the graphics card and CPU makes the total around $400 which is wayyyyyy easier to swallow just to play things like league, overwatch, indies, and maybe some emul*tors. Am I crazy?
  7. So, hear me out, I've been hearing a lot about the Athlon 3000G in terms of low spek/ low budget gaming. From what I understand it seems like upgrade path is pretty solid in terms of being bale to bump to ryzen 3 or ryzen 5 stuff using the same mother board. Pairing that with something like a Radeon RX 580 also leaves a pretty clear upgrade path to GTX later when my GPU is my main bottleneck. I speked something out recently as a super low budget machine focusing on value, low budget, entry level components. Let me know if this parts list is just silly: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Athlon 3000G 3.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor $54.99 @ Newegg Motherboard MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard $79.99 @ Newegg Memory Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $62.99 @ Newegg Video Card XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS XXX ED Video Card $169.99 @ Amazon Case Thermaltake Versa H15 MicroATX Mid Tower Case $50.89 @ Amazon Power Supply EVGA 550 W ATX Power Supply $61.42 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $480.27 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-05-14 17:46 EDT-0400 again, using ebay and stuff for the graphics card and CPU makes the total around $400 which is wayyyyyy easier to swallow just to play things like league, overwatch, indies, and maybe some emul*tors. 8. Y'all are the best! Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to this! I'll be using this as my map as I set up alerts on ebay and scroll craigslist and stuff hecking awesome
  9. what kind of cooler should I be looking for? what kind of specs/ dimensions should I be looking for? I don't really care about noise level
  10. thats totally ok! i'm just hoping to play some of these more competitive games on NOT a controller without major stutter
  11. Budget (including currency): $300 - $600 USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch, Minecraft, OBS, eSports titles, OBS, etc Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have all of the peripherals that I think I need: mouse (Logitech G305), keyboard (Steelseries Apex 5), mousepad (Steelseries large), headset (Steelseries Arctis 3), and I'll have a fine monitor by the time I finish building this rig . So this is JUST about the PC parts and rig as a whole. I currently use all of this on a 2019 Macbook Pro 15" (school and work, not changing, I love macOS sorrynotsorry) and on my Xbox 1S (very limited mouse and keyboard support). I would like to move over to PC gaming with the new console generation, so I'm hoping to only spend around what the new consoles will cost at launch hopefully with similar (if not better) specs. in terms of games I play now and plan on playing: I spend a lot of my time paying Overwatch (Xbox), Tomb Raider (Xbox), fun indies (Xbox/Switch), fighting games (xbox, switch), and adventure games (usually Switch). I usually skip AAA's, or play them on my xbox, so this thing doesn't need to be a beast. I would love to play good looking games around 60fps with high resolution, or competitive games at around 144fps at medium resolution. Long story short, this doesn't need to be crazy lol. I'm also pretty handy with trouble shooting and fixing funky hardware, so I'll be using suggestions from this to look for sales, deals on ebay, craigslist, etc. over the next year or two. Let me know if you're running something that it sounds like would work for me, or if you've got some ideas to share I'm not in a hurry, so have fun! (I'l probably check back in on this every day or so) Some specs/ guidelines that I'm using: - Budget, so so very budget. Ebay and refurb are my best friend - low(ish) power consumption - cooling doesn't matter (I just want it to be easy/ low maintenance) - AMD v. Intel doesn't matter (Kinda leaning AMD but idc) - I love the idea of upcycling and reusing material (cases or used products or whatever I can get away with) Tl;Dr: 1st time budget gaming rig using discount/2nd hand parts, no peripherals needed, for esports titles Thank you!!
