Hi guys. I didn't seem to get any luck on Reddit, so I'm trying here to see if I can get any help, because I'm getting very nervous/concerned.
I've built a few computers for me, my friends, and my family over the past several years; I'm not an expert at it by any means, but I have gotten comfortable working with parts. However, when I was installing my CPU (i7 9700k) into my Asus Maximus XI HERO, something very concerning happened.
When I was pulling down the little lever, there was a fair amount of resistance behind it. And then all of a sudden, there was a very loud "POP" and the black CPU cover that comes with the motherboard went flying. And the CPU was sitting awkwardly out of the socket of the motherboard.
It looks like there's damage to the sides of the CPU, where the latch covers it, which I'm very worried about, and I'm very, very worried at this point.
