  1. Reading other technical support discussions on the Internet I noticed many PSU failures with similar symptoms. Is there anything I could easily do to check that my PSU is fine, or should I necessarily get a multimeter and measure the tensions everywhere?
  2. [Update on the diagnostic] So I eventually could replace the GPU with a new one, which did not solve the issue. Now I have to check the entirety of the PC to find the failing component(s). I removed the CPU from its socket, the socket smelled like heated dust, but definitely not like it burnt. The CPU smells fine, its pins are straight and clean. What's surprising to me is that the motherboard passes the CPU check successfully, so it might be the main culprit here. What do you suggest I do? Before replacing either the motherboard or the CPU that is.
  3. Two hours after removing the CMOS battery, I put it back and tried the following: disconnecting the GPU (PCI-e and power supply) and starting the PC: as anticipated it was stuck at the VGA check, since it has no integrated graphics reconnecting the GPU and starting the PC: the VGA LED turns on and the boot gets stuck...
  4. That would be my next move. It is still under warranty so in the worst case scenario I would get a replacement, but this would take time given that the retailer closed down its customer service until further notice.
  5. Will do, thanks for the additional details! Ideally I would have lent my GPU to a friend, or borrowed one of his own, but the quarantine restrictions is really preventing me from doing this.
  6. Nothing of the sort, the GPU doesn't smell like some component burnt either. I removed the CMOS battery, let's see in two hours if it solved the issue.
  7. Hi everyone, My GPU (MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming) encountered a sudden failure yesterday during a gaming session and I am unable to boot my computer anymore as it has not integrated graphics. Maybe someone here could help me diagnose what's wrong. I was playing for a few hours when the display froze all of the sudden. The computer seemed unresponsive at this point so I manually rebooted it. Upon reboot, the system could not post: the VGA LED on the motherboard turned on and stayed on. The GPU fans stopped after a few seconds, and the display turned off after showing the MSI logo. I could not open the boot menu. Also, I could not hear any BIOS beep from the motherboard despite plugging speakers in. After consulting several hardware-specialized forums, I tried the following solutions without success: checking all cables in the system are well connected removing the SSD with the Windows partition and disconnecting all SATA drives leaving only one RAM slot occupied installing the GPU on another PCI-e slot shorting the Clear CMOS pins on the motherboard What are your thoughts? Can you think of any other solution I could try? Thanks a lot in advance!
