  1. I'll consider your answer if I buy a 2 TB or 3 TB drive (I mean if I'm going to invest in a new drive maybe it will be a better idea to upgrade the amount of storage)
  2. Ok I'll consider that if I get another 1 TB drive, but I've heard that clonning isnt a solution if the drives arent the same size
  3. So that means if for example I have some programs installed on the I drive, and some games on the W drive, by asigning the same drive letters on Disk manager I wont encounter any kind of problems in regards of not finding the files?
  4. Greetings people of the Linus Tech Tips forums, I've got a small question in regards of both hardware and software and I thought you guys are the perfect choice to ask about my question The thing is, that my 1 TB HDD is starting to show some signs of its age, and I'm considering to buy a replacement before its too late (I've had 3 HDDs die on me before, and 1 of them got so corrupt that I cant access its data anymore) but the thing is, that I have a lot of my software configured to work on the HDD (VMs, games, music and school software) and other kinds of backups, and its not only 1 partition, I had windows installed on it once and so I set it to have multiple partitions, so now I have the following questions. Is there a way to litearlly clone all the data from that HDD to another, and keep the same drive letters? (I'm planning to use ubuntu/lubuntu or Hiren's Boot CD) If I decide to buy an HDD bigger than 1 TB, can I still clone the other partitions and add the rest as an aditional partition? and lastly, I know that there's a hard limit on how much storage you can use on legacy boot, but does that mean net ammount of storage? (like if you have multiple drives the sum of their storage must not supass 4 TB?) or that means per drive? Thanks in advance for your questions, cheers (PD, sorry if my grammar is a little bit rough, but I've got a little bit rusty on my english) (Edit, almost forgot my system specs) Hardware: PC Manufacturer: Dell Model: Optiplex 790 CPU: Intel Core I5-2400 @ 3.10 GHz Ram: 8 GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz Primary SSD: ADATA SU650 250 GB Secondary HDD: Western WDC WD10EZEX-60M2NA0 1 TB GPU: Asus NVidia GT 1030 Silent Software: OS: Windows 10 1909 OS Archq: 64x BIOS Vendor: American Megatrends, Phenix Technologies BIOS Version: A06 Boot type: Legacy
  5. Well it's the first time I find a protein related to the current global situation The other ones that I've got are related to other diseases which is also really helpful but yeah, quite interesting
  6. I've finished my first fold, (took me 2 days) It looks like the next one is a small one, but its ok for my 9 y-o CPU
  7. Ok, so as for now, it is set, I'll be on the lookout for a GT-1030, so if anyone else have another suggestions feel free to post it so I can compare them and decide which is plan A and which is plan B (in case one of those run out of stock) I'll see if I find a deal on any of those GPUs Thanks for your suggestions
  8. I'll answer that with a screenshot In response for this My budget is bound on how much can I save in a reasonable amount of time (on my currency) because I can't buy a GPU as for now (Maybe in 2 to 4 months or so) I should've said that I'm asking so I can focus on what to get on a medium ammount of time, because before I had been focused the MSI NVidia GT710, but I saw some revews and they say is a big no-no for gaming But yeah, It looks like the Nvidia GT 1030 is a really good option
  9. Sorry I was doing some other stuff, good job on finding out what it was, After OP said; I thought it was something hardware related, that was a good find you made Cheers
  10. Does it straight up freezes the pc, or doesnt display anything for a couple of secconds and comes back every 30 secconds of so? Make sure your drivers are up to date, sometimes a driver update or a windows update can cause troubles, try to remember since when this issue got worse Also other thing I can think of is that your GPU could be overheating The worst case scenario that I can think of is that your GPU is starting to fail, but it depends if you overclock it often or if it doesnt get enough ventilation for a long time My answer is based on past experiences I had with an older pc, but it may or may not be the case Cheers
  11. Well, as for last month I've been playing Titan Quest, Yooka-Laylee, and both Portal games, and prior to those I've played Borderlands 1 (enhanced edition) and ever so rarely Fortnite. Of those games, I have to run Titan Quest on Dx9 mode, but sometimes that mode isn't really stable as it leads to missing textures, or once it froze my pc About Yooka-Laylee and Borderlands 1, my gpu can't run those games above 20 ish fps even on the lowest settings About the Portal games, Portal 1 runs quite well, but sometimes it straight out crashes, and for Portal 2 my GPU sometimes struggles to run it Last but not least, Fortnite, it runs ok, as long as I set the resolution at the lowest (even sometimes it looks like im running it on a 5th or 6th gen console I've had thought of that one too, however something that I dont know is that if my pc could be compatible on that GPU memory type, I've should asked before but, what does the GPU memory type (GDDRx) mean? is there a limitation on what type of memory type can I use on my pc? Also thanks for your replies Cheers
  12. Hello everybody, I hope you guys are doing well I'm posthing this to ask for suggestions on low profile and low power GPUs that can fit inside on a Dell Optiplex 790 DT, as I'm planning to upgrade everything on that machine untill I have to change the case, PSU and motherboard. But as for now, I'm looking for a new GPU as the current one is starting to fail on me (as in being underpowered for simple 3D modeling for school and for some medium gaming. And also, sometimes it crashes) With low power I mean that it doesn't require an external power plug as my PSU doesnt have any external plugs for the GPU As for the budget, I'm looking for something that doesnt exceed 100 USD (2500 mxn) Hope you guys can help me out on this Cheers P.D. I have to state the mandatory "sorry for broken english as english isn't my main language", as I can understand it really well but I haven't been practising in writing it for quite some time, so, once again, sorry
  13. I could suggest you to use some temperature monitoring software, personally I've used CoreTemp to show me the CPU temperature at the task bar as a progress bar, and you can configure it to show desktop notifications when things are getting too hot. Other piece of software that I use is HWinfo, as it can show you temperatures, fan speeds, voltage, etc. of your system, and depending on your system but you can set up a custom fan profile (or set all the fans to 100%, small edit, I have to say that if you decide to put your fans at 100% do it at your own risk, the fan control interface of that program says it too, but I had to write it here) I hope that can help you out Regards
  14. Hello everybody, I hope I'm not late for this, but I'm reporting for duty on my 2011 Dell Optiplex 790 sporting a cuad core Intel I5 2400, and an AMD Radeon HD 5450, it might not be much, but after watching Linus' video in regards of this topic I've decided to join to the cause (And join the forums because I'll ask something else on other topic) (I've been watching LTT content since they tested some electronics under water on a Mexican beach, so I think I saw the other video regarding this topic) I wish the best of the lucks for everybody and the success of this project, Cheers
