  1. Miker07 will be there very soon, then there's a steep drop to me and the point differences start getting much closer. I hope to join you within a year, but I guess you guys would have also moved up significantly in that time.
  2. Looks to be leveling out , still really impressive stuff guys I was thinking about all that stock Linus bought from that computer shop, then hardware prizes crossed my mind, anyone need random hardware from the early 2000's ?
  3. I'm not sure what he meant, but I originally interpreted it as him planning in joining in and folding along with us in some capacity, but after rewatching a couple of times maybe he did mean hardware as prizes.
  4. I only have a lot of gpu's because of the mining boom, I made back my original investment and profited upon selling the gpu's, I then used this money to buy new gpu's to fold on. I didn't really make any money, just earned gpu's
  5. @Mxyzptlk What exactly are you running? Of course I don't care, I'm just asking for a friend, ummmm Bob, yes that's his name, Bob. Bob also wants you to slow down, he doesn't want you to burn anything, he worries about you, what a nice guy.
  6. hahaha I wish. Most of my folding power comes from my two bifurcated rigs, then I have a mix of many other single gpu machines. D.B.H.D 1 - 3x 4080 and 2x 4070ti bifurcated rig 40-45 ppd D.B.H.D 2 - 2x 3080 and 2x 3070 bifurcated rig 20-24 ppd
  7. Looks like I'm not the only one rushing around to get everything ready , there's always plenty of time, then you realise you only have a few hours left before the event starts . Not just did my asus rog 1000w die, I gabbed my silverstone 1500w off the shelf and it's also not working properly, turns on and then immediately off like its detecting a short. Of course it's just out of warranty, so my plan is to let it sit for the next month and then take it apart, clean it, and put it back together again. This meant a load more work freeing up my corsair 1500w so it could be used on a machine with a bifurcated riser that puts all the cards on the same 12v rail, so I wasn't able to use multiple PSU's, I was planning to do this anyway, just not now. It ain't pretty, but it's solid: It now has 3 850w PSU's spread out over the hardware: PSU 1 on the system and a 4080 PSU 2 on a 4070ti and a 4080 PSU 3 on a 4070ti and a 4080 Now I just need to finish up the other bifurcated system with the corsair 1500w PSU.
  8. Using Hyper-V I was able to pass a 4090 to a virtual windows machine, it worked for gaming on the host and the VM, but fah couldn't see a compatible card on the VM even though the 4090 showed up in device manager. I'm thinking of moving from windows to Linux on this machine to see if that improves performance, I just need to figure out whuch distro would be best for me, as I'm inexperienced with Linux it might be best that I get one that's more user friendly. I used Ubuntu a little many years ago, would it be a solid choice?
  9. @Gorgon @Windows7ge @leadeater If I were to try a get Linux working on this machine which distro would you recommend? 3700x 16gb ram 120gb SSD 3x 4080 2x 4070ti Pcie1 4x4x4x4 bifurcation Pcie2 4x Will the multiple cards and bifurcation make things more complicated? Has anyone added any extra client options like client-type advanced?
  10. This had crossed my mind. It's also possible that it ends up working on two larger Wu's each one able to saturated the card on its own or one large and one small, in both circumstances it might end up taking much longer than usual. This might be mitigated to an extent by working on deseases which have generally smaller Wu's. I would also like to make it clear that my main objective is to get more work done, not to generate more points, though I would happily take them .
  11. If I could do this on my 4090 but just chop it into two, that would be great .
  12. For the vast majority of the time my 4090 was stuck using less than 50% cuda utilisation, so I hoped two uw's might bring that closer to 100%. Using your example, the hope was to do 2 Wu's in 1 hour instead of just 1. I'm not looking to run more Wu's on a GPUs that is already saturated, I looking to saturate a GPU that was using less than half of its potential.
  13. Ok, I thought it was a continuation of the shortage of larger Wu's from months ago, I didn't know we started to get more of them as I stopped using my 4090 months ago when it was only yielding 8-14 mil ppd. As time goes on and more powerful GPUs make there way into folding machines, I wondering if we will get more shortages in the future.
  14. Unfortunately it's been like this for a long time, until there are a larger quantity of large Wu's or the ability to run multiple Wu's on one gpu, I wouldn't buy anything more powerful than a 4070ti. I wish NVIDIA grid was compatible with gaming GPUs, I would love to see if multiple vm's could run Wu's on a single card. I managed to get my 4090 working on the host machine and a VM at the same time using Hyper-V, the 4090 could be seen by both machines in device manager, but fah was having none of it on the VM side, but the VM could use the card for games.
  15. Actually you can @Birblover12 Currently you are at 100% https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus
  16. I have had a close look and the connectors and they appear to be seated fully, as they are melted in situ I assume they have not moved from handling the psu. I can confirm that the wires are 18awg as that is what is printed on the cables.
  17. Yes I'm very aware of this. I was quite upset to begin with, I was fuming asus told me the warranty was void due to physical damage, not just did their product fail, it could have caused a fire putting my home and family at risk. I fired off an email explaining that the physical damage was caused by their PSU failing and not the other way around, and if they won't honor their warranties then I won't be buying asus products again, and that they might want to take a look at the value of all the registered products I have with them. I got a call the next day saying that they have decided to give me a replacement, the rep on the phone informed me it was common practice for asus to deny claims on the first try, make of this what you will. Its an Asus strix 1000w, it was only running two 4070ti's at 50% power in an open air system, one dedicated pcie cable going to one of each the cards and the 3rd cable went to the last connector on each of the cards, so about 300w total over 3 pcie cables. I think it's ridiculous that it would heat up so much from such a low power draw, and that no protection was triggered.
  18. Better it happened now and not in the middle of the event. It was still working like this, luckily the smell aroused my suspicions so I started investigating.
  19. My opinion does not align with yours so any rebuttal I make is non sense, does this apply only to me or to anyone that disagrees with you? Winston Churchill Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage.
  20. Now this is what I like to see, some one actually eloquently expressing an opinion that might not completely align with my own. I feel like linus is more genuine, what you see is what you get, maybe it's because linus shares so much of himself and his life with us, to me he's a good guy that messes up sometimes. Though Steve is almost always right in what he's says, I feel like he is hiding something, he is very calculating and seems to enjoy ripping into people, though it's well deserved the majority of the time. Does LMG need to do better, yes. Could have GN have handle this better, I think so. Do they have ulterior motives maybe, but personally inclined to think GN does.
  21. Were they? They share the same space, they have overlapping communities, have occasionally worked together, and were polite towards each other, but a friendship needs more than this. Now this is just my opinion, but I always felt like it was a little awkward between the two of them, and now that I have looked back at videos of them together, neither of them seem particularly at ease with each other, so I never saw them as friends.
