  1. A new ARG (Alternate Reality Game) has popped up and its being connected to DotA2 in some ways check it out. https://www.reddit.com/r/ARG/comments/43rwd4/yesterday_an_arg_was_discovered_on_rdota2/?sort=new
  2. think your forgetting how much it actually costs to ship it to someone and how much it actually costs to ship back to the company have it restocked and then figure out why the wrong product was shipped in the first place. its these behind the scenes events that will either match the price of the bigger ssd or exceed it greatly thus making it not worth the time, money or effort on either parties side. Not to mention the inconvenience and lack of quality assurance this does to the customer this can lead to loss of clientèle as well. Amazon didn't get big from messing around with peoples orders they got big for providing their clients with what they want when they want and how they want it even if it may come at a bit of expense on their side, but lets be honest for all the savings you may be getting on one product you are probably losing it on another and thats how amazon makes their money. btw a loss of a 130$ on one product means very little to a company that sells billions of products a year for billions of $.
  3. if you call them chances are they will tell you to keep it because it will cost more to restock and resend the the correct one thus not worth it. up to you if you care to notify them or not.
  4. @[member=alpenwasser] It was DxWxH sorry thought I had that in there.... so that fractal design case wont work... still looking through the silverstone options, however, not quite what I had in mind I was thinking something more along the design of the Corsair 540 air (though this particular case doesn't have swappable drives :'() The plan is just to run windows 10 its simple easy dont really need to do much doing it this way, maybe down the road if I want something more hometheater-y I might change it but basically a pc hooked up to a tv that has a ton of storage that other computers on the network can add to or access is what I am going for. @leadeater you may have to explain to me how storage spaces works a bit better to me, I did some looking into it and from what I can tell its basically grouping all your drives into one then separating them as virtual drives giving you the ability to easily add more drives later as you need more space, my question is if one of these drives dies unexpectedly how does this effect the data that was stored on that drive? Typically my understanding as to why you go raid is because one drive is used as actual space that you utilize while the other is used as redundancy/backup so I dont understand how storage spaces does this... The explanation on Microsofts website is this Does this mean I can run at 90% of capacity and not worry about loss of data or does this still mean I need double of what ever my actual capacity is.
  5. I am not a 100% sure if this is the right place to post this, move if necessary (TL/DR at bottom) So I have been trying to figure out how to go about building a NAS/Home Entertainment PC/Light Gaming PC for the living room for a few years now and have not really moved an inch on it due to lack of understanding RAID options and which one I should probably be using, as well as, trying to find a case that will literally fit in that area of the house. Essentially what I want to make is a PC with around 3TB of storage for each type of media I have accumulated over the years with backups/RAID so that I don't lose any data in the case of failures something I have not been doing at all for a long time which I know is HORRIBLE. On top of those storage options I want to make basically a practical living room gaming PC (more or less smaller form factor, with MidHigh GPU). I have a lot of parts already figured out such as hard drives probably just going to go WD REDS, it will have probably 512GB SSD for the OS and other applications (I dont care about backing up the SSD, no important data will be stored on it) as well as something like a Nvidia 970 or something similar for a gpu. Where I am having issues as stated before is finding an actual case to place this into area in my living room (dimensions are: 2' x 1'4" x 1'4") and choosing the correct motherboard for this type of application as I mentioned before I have never made a NAS before so I am not sure if particular motherboards are going to make any difference when it comes to transfer speeds over the network for large files. additional note With the release of this new video from LTT (sorry no youtube link yet) its got me really interested in trying to get similar speeds over the network or at least break 200MB/s if theres any additional things I may need to attempt to get this to at least half work (I know I am not using SSD's as storage and that will be a bottle neck) that would be amazing, I probably will need a new router and switch/hub for this. __________________________________________________________________________ TL/DR Building a NAS/Light gaming rig Looking for a case that fits living room (dimensions are: 2' x 1'4" x 1'4") Looking for Motherboard that is optimal for the build Parts already picked WD REDS 3TB x 6 Nvidia 970 samsung/intel 500GB SSD Budget of 3000$
  6. oooooooooo epilepsy fuuuun!
  7. its a dead pixel by the sounds of it, iirc you can use one of those monitor color testing tools to see it more clearly. one note to take away before you try to rma is not every company automatically gives you rma coverage on dead pixels, in fact most of the time if they even offer it its and additional fee (NCIX Does this) so if you had not already paid for it beforehand you may be stuck with it. it can suck too I bought a sager laptop with coverage but they only cover you for a month, the dead pixel popped up 8 months later..
  8. So Nvidia posted this video yesterday showing that a 650 is out preformed by a 950 in terms of actual click registration in DotA2. Not much info was available in the video I am just curious how accurate this really is or if its just a marketing scheme.
  9. one thing I think would be a cool series to do is quarterly reviews of motherboards/general pc tech over the course of the year so people can easily figure out what is worth buying within their budget (so review budget, mid class, enthusiast and benchmark them), I find it rather annoying that no one else does this online and it makes it hard to determine what really is your best performance to price parts for any period of the year. Also do more monitors like every monitor on ncix ALL OF THEM!
  10. today is your lucky day my friend. I just bought a sager literally 2 weeks ago and have it now (typing from it in fact) its the NP8298 2 models up from yours. my specs; Display 17.3" Full HD LED-Backlit Display with Matte Finished Surface (1920 x 1080) Video & Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU with 4GB GDDR5 Video Memory CPU Processor 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Processor ( 6MB L3 Cache, 2.40GHz) Operating System Genuine MS Windows® 7 Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition ( 64-Bit Preloaded ) [$15.00] Memory 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 4GB mSATA mSATA SSD Drive Slot 1 250GB Samsung 840 EVO Series mSATA3 SSD Hard Disk Drive 1 1TB 7200rpm SATA2 Hard Drive Optical Drive Bay — Optical Drive or Hard Disk Drive in Optical Drive Bay with Caddy case 8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive So I am guessing your asking if you can use the ram from your mac to put in your soon to be sager and I want to say yes but honestly I don't a 100% know sager is very custom and I couldn't find a page that explains what ram is supported by their current gen laptops. Your best bet would probably be talking to sager directly and they could probably setup a some sort of deal for you sending the laptop without any ram at all then you just do a clean swap throw it back together and wala thus also saving you on buying the one stick of ram.
