Hey Guys,
i am helping a friend troubleshooting his pc.
i helped him ascend to his new rig over the phone, we live quiet far away, 6+ hour drive.
Everything worked out great, however when he started updating windows 7 Ultimate, he told me after many updates it appeared that his "desktop window manager" crashes on startup
Further investigation told me that in services.msc the dwm.exe is usually started on automatic, if i tried to forcereboot the service, it insta crashed.
Summary:
Windows 7 Ultimate
current Mainboard drivers from the 19.09.2015 (MSI Z97 Gaming 5)
GTX660 - Driver 355.XX (20.09.2015)
I advised him to do following things:
Reinstall the Graphics Driver
cmd.exe as administrator -> chkdsk /r
windows+r -> sfc /scannow
I still have to wait for an anwser after those things i advised.
However i am curious and was thinking.
Its the same OS that i am running. could i just export my dwm.exe from system32 and copy it over his dwm.exe? Would that fix anything or possibly break everything? Or do you guys have magic dust for me to repair it, that be nice too
Anyways, greets, Hanazaki
