  1. first time doing per core. it is a pain in the ass. but i'm in it now and want to see it through.
  2. per core. ran prime95, corecycler, OCCT small medium large. passes all that. crashes in game. not sure what else to do to figure out which core is giving me a hard time.
  3. PBO is considered overclocking because you are running it beyond the manufacturers settings. AMD themselves said using PBO runs the chip outside of intended operation and voids warranty. i'm not misunderstanding anything. i know what undervolting does. i've already done this with my cpu and gpu. i'm not sure if your reading comprehension isn't good, or you are trolling. you seem to be the one who is confused about the purpose of this post. i'm not asking how undervolting works. i'm asking how PBO works, and if curve optimizer can be used without PBO. you claim PBO reduces voltage, while reputable people like steve linus and even asus themselves tells you in the bios PBO allows higher voltage. i've provided multiple references to support this. so unless you can back up your claims with some form of proof, i'm going to consider you a troll and disregard what you are saying.
  4. hey mark, can you provide any reference that PBO = less voltage? cause i think you are wrong. PBO = more voltage. curve optimizer = less voltage. here are my references that says PBO uses more voltage.
  5. gamers nexus says PBO effects 3 voltages, it allows the cpu to run beyond stock spec, it will raise the amount of power thats deliverable to the cpu, and maintain boost clocks longer. i double checked his video to make sure i'm using the correct language. there was alot of confusion between precision boost and precision boost overdrive when they first launched. now that PBO2 launched and curve optimizer was introduced, there is more confusion between PBO2 and curve optimizer. i believe my previous comment is true, PBO was originally meant to run out of spec voltage and maintain boost longer. curve optimizer is used to adjust the voltage curve for lower voltage. what i'm not sure about, is curve optimizer part of PBO, meaning i can't use curve optimizer without PBO, or do they function separately, meaning i can use curve optimizer without PBO.
  6. linus video says it sends more power to the cpu. asus bios says it allows it to boost at higher voltages. pretty sure curve optimizer allows you to adjust voltage curve, which people use to lower voltage, while PBO allows you to pull more voltage. turbo/boost = xmp/expo same thing different words.

PBO allows the CPU to use more voltage so it can maintain boost frequency for longer, right? how does this work exactly? the 7800X3D boost is 4.5ghz. it can do this at stock voltage, no extra voltage necessary. how long it can boost depends on temperature. so how does giving it more voltage help? i kinda want to turn it off, cause allowing the CPU to use more voltage seems counter productive when undervolting. but i don't want to turn it off unless i'm sure i understand how it works. one thing i noticed, the curve optimizer menu in the bios is in the precision boost overdrive section. does this mean curve optimizer doesn't work unless PBO is on?
  8. why do some board manufacturers tell us to put the memory in specific slots? i understand dual channel and not having them next to each other, but why does it matter if you use the A slots or the B slots?
  9. you can up mix stereo to 5 channel. people call if different things, virtual sound, 3D sound, spatial sound, etc.
  10. i went to control panel and setup for 5.1. i can hear the test sounds coming from all my speakers. but no sound comes through my rear speakers when playing a gaming watching a movie listening to music etc. i've done some reading, and there seems to be alot of confusion. some people say windows only supports stereo. some say you have to upmix from stereo to 5 channel through other devices as virtual/3D sound isn't supported through windows directly. others say 5.1 on windows isn't supported because microsoft won't pay dolby for a license. i understand license stuff when watching a bluray. but needing a dolby license to play a mp3 doesn't make any sense. i'm assuming this is either some kind of windows limitation, or there are extra steps that i am not aware of.
  11. i just built a new computer. i had an windows image with all my programs and settings exactly the way i like it. doing it all over sucks and takes a few hours. but i decided to install fresh windows. the thought i had was i'm going from X570 chipset with DDR4 to X650E chipset with DDR5 and didn't want any potential conflicts loading an old image on different hardware. but now that's it's done i'm wondering, would this work? drivers is my first concern, but i guess i could uninstall the old stuff. the next thought was windows assigns every computer a unique identifying number and not sure how it would respond to a new board and cpu. can you guys think of any other potential problems? has anybody ever tried this?
  12. trying to figure out all the recommended tweaks. curve optimizer negative 30 reduced my temps 12c and raised my boost 200mhz. PBO enhanced 3 reduced my temps another 12c and power draw 11w with only a 25 point reduction in cinebench. MCR reduced my boot time from 61 to 13. all of these tweaks are pretty significant. what else should i be aware of?
  13. does the integrated graphics do anything when you have a dedicated gpu? does disabling it help with temps or volts? was reading about under volting. i was expecting to adjust to vcore, but i don't see anybody talking about that. seems like everybody is talking about adjusting the curve optimizer with a negative offset. some people are limiting the TDP. i see a few people saying they aren't a fan of PBO and turn it off completely. that would mean it never runs above 4.2 right? i saw a video where a guy reduced a 7700X by 30c and 50w. not sure how relevant that is with 7800X3D but it sounds like it might be worth it. any other bios tweaks i should know about? also, my boot time sucks. which apparently is normal. but i read something interesting. somebody said how long memory training takes depends on how much memory you have. is this true? i bought 64gb even though i know going dual rank is a very minimal bump. but i wasn't expecting to hear it's doubling my boot time.
  14. i was looking for UCLK in the bios. i don't see it. but i noticed my CPU was 53c. do my voltages look ok?
  15. just installed. my idle is 47 degrees with NHD15. is this normal? my last ryzen was 40c and i hear power draw for X3D is really low cause it's more sensitive to voltage. 47 seems warm for doing nothing. i installed the chipset driver, but i don't see ryzen power plan. is this still a thing? regarding infinity fabric. this no longer has to be half of memory speed? i heard something else does, was it memory controller? whats this called in the bios?
