  1. I have just discovered this happen to my ASUS GL703GM today as well, literally within the last hour and found this post because of it. I have gained a huge performance increase by undervolting my cpu by -173mv. By lowering my turbo (4.2 to 3.9) my system wouldn't thermal throttle as fast and as bad and only go down to 3.4ghz. Now with stock settings it throttles immediately and falls all the way to 2.9ghz. BOOOOOOOOO! I have read online though that turning back you bios to and older version should unlock the settings again. I am going to try rolling back to v311 from v314 that I am using now and if that works I will post on here again with my results.
  2. If you would like to file a complaint about this anti-consumer move then follow the link below, scroll to the bottom and type away. I did. https://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/frm-eng/GHÉT-83KK9Y
  3. Good day LTT Team, My suggestion at this time is to explore portable tethered PC VR gaming using a laptop and a RIft S or or other compatible headsets. I currently have an asus rog strix scar gl703gm and a RIft S (made sure I had a mini DP) and it is perfectly adequate for running the RIft S comfortably, though I know there is more performance out there. I am able to fit all of it in a backpack so it is truly portable in that sense and when I get to wherever I was going it only takes me a few mins to setup then I am gaming in VR. I also sometimes run a HDMI cable to a TV so that others can enjoy as well if one is available. I have equated this experience to when the Nintendo Wii first came out, a little on the dated side for graphics but a very good social and party console. I played Wii sports with my friends so much that it was a hole in one every time we golfed. This is what I have been doing with my VR, making it a social party trick, especially when others can watch on another display. I keep seeing videos on how to build the perfect VR room/high end PC setup for $$$$$ but would like to see something more attainable for the average budget conscious household, reviewed by experts, current and accurate. A lot, most, of the articles out there are dated and inaccurate due to speculation when they were written with the hardware just releasing. Some articles have been updated and edited for newer hardware but the inaccuracies remain in the articles or they haven't been updated as firmware updates for all headsets progress. You could do laptops and headsets that work at different price points but focus on whats affordable to most people. I do appreciate that LTT does do a fair bit of content on affordable VR already, so thank you and keep it up. PS. Sorry I am a bit of a Rift S fanboy, it is because I have one and the ease of use I have had while using it with a laptop.
  4. While I am only using a Rift S as opposed to an Index, I am able to play bone works just fine on my laptop that has an i7-8750H (6 core, 12 thread, 2.1 GHz base clock, 4.1 Turbo).
  5. This is my Asus GL703GM laptop. I have undervolted the CPU core -175.8mv and the CPU Cache by -125.0mv using ThrottleStop to help with heat, this has allowed me to maintain a much higher boost speed of about 3.4ghz after it throttles down from 4.0ghz. Before I did this it would only sustain about 2.7ghz due to thermal throttling. I used this video to help me out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNt9L3BWOFo&list=PLt1XEBTVwHf6ElCl6cQQxEdr28oAVVZ61&index=2&t=0s -i7-8750H, 6 core 12 thread, base clock 2.2ghz supposed to turbo up to 4.ghz but gets stuck at 4.0ghz -x1 16gb DDR4 2666, stock factory settings. I am also using a cooling pad and just yesterday cleaned all of the dust (that is supposedly supposed to be shot out the "special" dust channel) out of the cooling fins and fans. I am very new to all of this overclocking/undervolting stuff so any tips would be awesome. Also I know I am using a laptop and my options are very limited because of that, but that's what I got and that's what I needed when I bought it... Thanks.
  6. I am running my Rift S on a Asus ROG Strix Scar GL703GM laptop with the following specs, also of note this laptop has a mini display port: CPU: i7-8750H GPU: GTX 1060 6gb Mobile Memory: 1x16gb DDR4 2666 I am not super knowledgeable about how these things work but a quick "vs" google search leads me to believe that these two cpu's can give close to the same performance ( I am certainly waiting to be corrected) and you beat me in gpu and memory so... I am able to play Boneworks on medium settings. I get a little stuttering every now and then but the game is very playable. Although at the Main Menu room it is giving me an error message that my cpu isn't supported because its base clock is only 2.2ghz (Turbos up to 4.1ish and sustains around 3.2ish), but it seems to be working just fine.
