  1. Fingers crossed I hope one day, laptops would be similar to current PC tower designs (GL framework) - modular, easy to upgrade and allow people with less resourcess to buy off 2nd hand hardware instead of buying 'complete solutions' that are then thrown away because they are worth baraly anything after 2 years or so
  2. That's the first time I got so many replies, so thank you LTT community (skip next 2 paragraphs if you already know I was delusional) I thought of that, but I got mine like half a year ago for ~2k USD (currently it's even more expensive in Poland) and newer model with 4080 (nothing better available here) costs twice as much as mine and benchmarks are showing, it's 2x more powerfull so cost/performance ratio is the same, but screen is 1600p, which would actually equal to the similar performance while on the go (yes yes, more faster ram but for me it's useless atm, I can add capacity on my own later, CPU would actually make a diff in high FPS scenarios, but screen does not support it fully, better CPU, more SSD storage) but it isn't 'game changer' (might be wrong, consider price/perf) - it's an improvement, but is it worth ~20% loss of initial purchase and cleaning laptop every 1,5 years or so for similar perf on the go? Not to mention 10-20% more power consuption. That is why I have asked this question - if there is a way I could potentially tinker it and make it work with a better screen for similar price in the comming years and not banish my initial investment right now. I would rather sell this laptop when it's more out of date to some college kid (or friend/familiy) that needs a laptop (cen't stress enough how G14 chassis is amazing IMHO) for a good price and want to play some games in the meantime rather than sell it to some reseller than would rip next person off (yeah sure, I might lose money but integrity is more valuable to me) instead of paying full price for new laptop that is already outdated (I mean, 1650 'gaming laptops' in 2023 anyone?) (continue reading here if you thought I was delusional) So all in all, it would be better for me, to look for a good gaming monitor with KVM switch, sell of my current laptop, purchase desktop and work with it instead of doing all of the shenanigans. I love that community was quicker and smarter than AI in this scenario Have a great day all ! (attaching cat photo as a thank you)
  3. Thanks for instant response It would be, but I am frequently visiting my friends to play LAN RL so I really like the portability in those cases (because RL is not that demanding, and my friends Xbox X has horrible input lag on his dated TV). Also I have tested it during covid and cable clutter kills me when connecting my desktop setup and work laptop and I had to play on that not-so-fun-to-play-tv when I am at my friends. I that scenario I would rather play 1080p 144fps+ internal display than old 4k 60Hz TV and I can't really ask my friend to buy newer TVs (and my laptop can't handle 4k 120+ in RL) and I am not rich enough to buy them those On top of that I just moved to not-that-big studio flat and I want to save as much space as possible, even using monitor/TV of the setup as a display for watching movies etc. Budget was set up so I could buy any modern mid-high end GPU + enclousure + PSU. I really love that I can turn off work pc, plug in mine and play games within 1min or so. I was thinking about some other solutions, but I could not find anything that could be cheaper in this regard, apart for having more stuff in small apartment. I was wondering, if there is better solution than having 2 laptops and 1 PC tower that would be similar cost. It's more like 'I am looking for options' than get another PC that you just gave up for ease of use I undesrtand that is VERY SPECIFIC question but until I can get modular laptop in Poland, eGPU seems to be the best solution in my case. If I couls swap that 6700s to newer GPU, I would, but in my case I would need to eaither flip laptops every now and then or have something, that is not really suiting me. If that's the case, oh well.
  4. Budget (including currency): ~1500$ (but I have few GPUs) Country: Poland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly Rocket league, Armored Core 6, Elden Ring etc. AKA gaming but in higher resolutions Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have Asus g14 laptop ith 6800HS and 6700S using USB hub to connect all of the peripherials (I am switching it for my work laptop since I am WFH) Hi LTT forums. I was wondering if someone could help me with this topic. I started to think if I could prolong my lapotp's lifespan by connecting it to eGPU enclousure used as a USB hub and power station(single USB connection) with the best GPU that could be connected to it without going over 40GBPS limit on it's port. I have searched for the answer for very long time and tried to leverage chatGPT(3.5)/Bing(same but 4) for answers, but I got this response: I have read that 3080 is the 'top tier' card for eGPU setup (bandwidth) and it would still be way slower than regular desktop GPU but I was wondering if there is currently solution available to hook my laptop to, let's say, 3070 (I have 2 lying around lol) and be able to buy some 1440p UW or 4K monitor (in theory similar workload on CPU) and use bigger resolution than currently. I have been using 1080p 16:9 external monitor and 1080p 16:10 internal mostly for playing RL but I moved from PC tower setup that had 5600xt, then 3060, then 3070 and I could use 1440p monitor with similar performance. I would love to use 1440p UW or 4k with this laptop (again, because of work I like to have over-the-top audio setup even on calls and ease of swap between laptops to play them games) but seeing it's perf on 1080p, I do not think it's feasible. Is there anyone who tried to resuscitate (where spellcheck) their 'getting old gaming laptop' with eGPU (mine is still quite fresh, but I could try to flip it if that's not possible)? This would allow me to move to ultrabook laptop in the future or something. Would that be feasible or we are not there yet?
  5. Hi ltt crowd! I was looking for USB 4 hub that would allow me to connect my peripherials with signgle cable between my work laptop (Latitude 7420,) with TB3 and private Asus g14 (6800HS / 6700S) Peripherials: -Logitech mouse and keyboard -novox nc-1 -Fiio e10k -LG 27 650F -some cheap UGREEN usb 2.0 switch (I can throw it away/replace, no care) Currently, i am using some zenwire 10in1 adapter: Latitude did not support 1440p over thunderbolt (even on custom res) on LG 850GL so I went with LG 650F for my setup (I have both screens), by the way, my dock works as DP adapert only if I connect it right way up to prv laptop (180 degree turn would result in display not being detected at all which took me a while to realize), but it works on Latitude both ways. It does not support Freesync at all, which my G14 supports over direct HDMI connection with both screens (and my work laptop have no problem with 1440p support with HDMI as well ... ) With current setup I have 4 choices: -using LG850 on 1080p WITHOUT Freesync (work laptop resolution limitation and Freesync not supported by HUB, so kinda worst case scenarion since 6700S struggles with 1440p) -using LG650 WITHOUT Freesync (which pains me whle playing eSports titles, mostly Rocket League, even at high framerates) -potentially find similar adapter that would support FreeSync on LG 650 -connecting HDMI cable separatly from USB-C dock to be able to use both screens with freesync (this is annoying since G14 has HDMI on the left side and Latitute on the right and it destroys my cable management + it's 2(!) cables instead of 1 ! :/) Did anyone solved similar problem and could guide me on how to make proper 1-cable-to-do-it-all (apart from heavy gaming on G14 with limitation on 100W PD) setup for both of the machines? I have spent 10's of hours to come up with a solution, but I am not happy with any results that I got until this point. I am also encoutering a problem that I need to reconnect Fiio dac to work laptop (works on G14) every time I turin it off, otherwise, sound is distorted (I am 99% sure it's because of the cheap USB hub because it worked fine without NC-1 connected to it, DAC is always connected directly to Zenwire) I would really love to just swap laptops without compromises but as of now, I have no idea how to do it :< I know I sound picky AF but before I started my move from tower PC/Latitude (which I need to sell ASAP to afford kitchen cabinets in my new appartment) to G14/Latitude I thought it would be easier
  6. Hello everyone, I have been playing RL for nearly a year now and I feel like my PC is not performing as it should. I would like to share my case and hope that someone would be able to help me Rig details: r5 3600 at 4.2GHz all core B450M DS3H (newest bios) rtx3060 stock Ballistix Sport LT, DDR4, 16 GB, 3000MHz, CL15 - OC at 3200MHz ADATA XPG SX8200 PRO 512GB m.2 (game directory is on ssd) LG27GL850-B + LG27GL650F-B SilentiumPC Supremo FM2 Gold 650W Some time ago I had only GL650F and 5600xt and I was able to run RL at 1080p just fine with 144 FPS locked. Then I bought additional GL850-B and started to play on 1440p - with settings not maxed out I was able to maintain ~140 FPS on 5600xt. After that I have moved to 3060 and I was able to crank up in-game settings to max and be able to play without dropping below 100 fps to often (those micro stutters...). However lately I felt like my FPS is not stable and I have started to look into it. In 2v2 everything works mostly fine, but I will do get occasional stutter just before hitting the ball or bumping into someone + usual stutters when save/goal happens. In 3v3 I have been experiencing silly jumps in performance (screenshot was taken to not display drops after goals etc): Sometimes the game would run at 140 for 20 seconds, then drop to 70-80 for 10 seconds and then comes back up (so random that I do not have SS for it). I have been trying to optimize my build for low latency/high FPS but I think that 3060 should not drop frames below 100@1440p even at ultra, right? I have bought aftermarket air cooler and OC'ed my CPU to check if it would help - not really. Sometimes game runs well, sometimes it is 'unplayable from pc master race perspective' as seen on SS. I have tried to run game using epic and steam client - not much difference nVidia settings: sharpening on ambient occlusion - performance FXAA - off Cuda - All DSR - off Low latency mode - on Max FPS - 144 G-Sync compatible (tried different settings for that, currently it is set ON on GL850 for windowed and fullscreen, and off on GL650, freesync was better on those screens) Power mode - max perf Shader cache - off (tried both settings with conjunction to other tweaking, can't say for sure if it should be on or off) Texture filtering quality - performance (had it on Quality but I was playing with it lately) VSync - currently off, but I think Fast works quite good PhysyX - set to GPU RL settings: everything max, motion blur off, FXAA High Resource usage during gameplay: CPU 13-22% GPU 65% Other: Win10 - fully updated Malwarebytes scan - no threats found No stupid background processes running except GeForce experience for instant reply thingy Every benchmark I have checked seems to be running way smoother that what I am experiencing. Is this really expected performance or am I doing something wrong? Is 3600 bottlenecking 3060? I can swap it for 3070 if you will tell me I will get more consistent framerates, but I would rather not swap CPU before next gen seeing that OC gave me next to nothing (ye ye I know it would be better with 5900x but I won't put it in that mobo and swapping 3600 for 5600 seems like a low bang for the buck upgrade path) My friend is able to run RL smoother than me on i5-6700 + the same model of 3060 on UW 1440p screen. Another friend is able to have locked 144 fps on laptop with 5800h + 1660Ti however on 1080p. I am the only one experiencing so much stutter, fps drops and overall inconsistency. I have tried to revert MOBO to default values, reinstall drivers, game, steam, epic. I am toying with nVidia settings all the time but can't seem to find anything that would explain why it is running like that. Any idea on what to check next will be appreciated ! I am open to suggestions like "you need 2000$ CPU to run this game smoothly at 140 fps!" since I am planning on making my next PC a monster and maybe I have overlooked something or was not informed enough (or too poor when building this PC) Have a great day!
  7. Hi, I saw this thread and I want to ask something. I have Hp x360 with 2500U and after new 2020 adrenaline driver I lost support for FreeSync (and I had it before). It bothers me. I tried reinstalling drivers/bios/windows etc. using both HP Support Assistant (I was that desperate) and manually and I was not able to find any information about the screen to look for drivers / solution (tried original OEM drivers as well, factory reset, everything). Windows shows Generic PnP display regardless of drivers. Driver easy (thanks for sharing, did not know about this software): Any ideas on how to get display name/driver to make it work? I was able to have fun playing WoW retail on it, now it is far worse Q_Q
  8. Hello LTT forums, I have HP Envy x360 with 2500u ( 15m-bq121dx ) which gives me plenty of early adapter tax lately. I wanted to update to Adrenaline 2020 today since I read good things about it (FREE FPS) and honestly I hoped for a tiny performance boost while playing WoW or HoTS and get rid of some BSODs related to display driver. So I began with simply clicking update button. After updating, my task manager showed like 40% CPU and GPU usage by Adrenaline but I did not care at first. After testing in HoTS I was pretty happy with the outcome. But then my fans would be blowing all the time and it was annoying while browsing web (only like 4 chrome tabs). So I started my investigation. I read somewhere that clean install would probably solve the issue, so I did just that (I did use AMDCleanupUtility) in safe mode and then installed drivers again. It solved the issue, great! Now to the problem part. While browsing through Adrenaline I found something odd. My Freesync was gone - apparently drivers for the screen itself were deleted during clean install (my guess). I tried to reinstall HP provided drivers but my display is no longer FreeSync compatible. Windows sees my display as "Generic PNP display" and I can not update drivers for it. HP Support assistant does not provide anything that could solve the issue, but I will try their diagnostic tool (I am THAT desperate). This is my 1st VRR panel and I really loved it, I don't want to go back Q_Q My question is: Is there any way of solving this issue without factory reset ? Will factory reset even work? I am asking because I bought this PC as an refurbished and upgraded unit (more RAM and m.2) from a third party seller and I am not sure if everything will work. I spent some time trying to figure it out, but without luck. This is honestly first time I am asking for any IT help in my life (apart from work, where I can't do anything on my own since I do not work in IT). Have a great day everyone!
