Hey Everyone,
I got this very strange issue whenever I start my computer my 2nd screen goes on/off every few seconds up to a minute. This keeps going for quite a while. But when I do a quick stress test so that my video card gets hotter and also the display port cable it is connected to. At least I think that more current goes through it when the GPU is pushing it. But then when it is warmer the flickering stops.
Even when I force the video card to cool down to 10 degrees and restart the problem does not come back but when I leave the computer off for a minimal of 4 hours the problem starts again.
When I use a different cable the problem is also solved the only issue I have is that the other cable is about 9 meters to short. :-)
The displayport cable in question is this one: https://smile.amazon.de/dp/B01NCIQ8JY/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_djp8DbQ8R4MEN
This one is 10 meters long and has worked always flawlessly on my older GPU (r9 290x) but on the 980ti I have now it is giving me these issues.
All drivers are fully up to date and I troubleshooted everything I could think of with the GPU and then it struck me that it had to do with heat. Because when the cable is used for a while the flickering stops and it does not come back. Unless it is not used for several hours.
Anyone ever heard of coldness being a issue with cables?
Any tips on what to do?
Myself I was thinking of buying a displayport to hdmi cable like this: https://smile.amazon.de/dp/B000WK9JGO/?coliid=I2CVGBTKXV85U4&colid=3W3YBRCC5B8P3&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Is that a good idea or a waste of money?
