well i wanted a hyperviser nas and windows pass thru for games but. i know nothing about nas and everyone i know person recommends synology. so if anyone else knows if this is a ryzen thing like if i swapped the board and proc to like an i7 if this would work or if it is not even possible to simply do it, or is it just not reliable. thank you.

so i guess what i would like to do wont work as a daily driver yet, guess i get the synology nas and just turn gaming computer on when i need to do anything compute or game or stream games.

the windows vm would be faster on bare metal than in ubuntu. ubuntu is the os i am running on my laptop which is what will vnc or steam remote play into the windows vm. i also want to connect it to a monitor and my kvm to play games native. this is the easiest and most reliable way. truenas core worked but had many issues with smb and nfs but unraid has done that flawlessly. i am really liking the trial unraid so far. i do thing the community support package to install things should be included instead of having to figure out how to install it. i dont want to spend the money on more parts just to try this. i assume there is someone on these forums that has or is running this setup, i need to know if it will work for an everyday driver. :for background info, i have three monitors, 2 of which are connected to a hp pavilion 13 thru a usbc dock, the third monitor is connected to switch, ps3, and gaming desktop. my kb and M are connected to both desktop and dock thru a kvm. using the usb on my router for a media nas now and i need more room and faster access for my files and computer.

i am having a bit of a dilemma. i would like to have 3 or 4 4tb drives in a zfs1 or raid 10 array with access to the network and plex for the tvs. i have 2 scenarios i can either use my gaming desktop which is a ryzen 2700x with a radeon 590, add a second gpu for the unraid setup and pass thru the 590 and usb to a windows vm running on unraid, or i can buy a synology nas box 4 bay. i have read that setting up an unraid with a windows 10 vm with 590 and usb passed thru so i can run the vm on a monitor with kb/M does not work with ryzen or there is lag to play. if i did it this way i would also have a steam in home streaming able to run 24/7 and play anywhere with unraid serving plex and nas shares. i would like to hook it up like 2 gamers 1 cpu but only one gamer. if this is too hard or not possible i would have to get a synology 4 bay like the 418. i am new to servers but have played with vms and truenas as well as unraid. i do not have the drives or usb pci for the vm yet.

thank you i got it working. seemed to be a glitch on my trial system. remade usb drive. i googled it and could not find anything, but once you showed me where to click and what should show i could see that i was not getting the whole menu for some reason and no one else has seen this glitch.

i only have start and edit. there is no remove vm or remove vm and disks options.

i am trying unraid, i am coming from freenas which is easy. how do you delete the stupid test vms on this complicated system.

liquid metal is the best but it is dangerous to out on if you make a mistake. i use arctic silver, or noctua nt h2. and yes only a few degrees. taking apart my ps3 soon to do a thermal paste swap.

i am looking for a reciever or amplifier of some kind, i need to listen to 2 devices through one pair of headphones or speakers. my switch and gaming pc are one source and my laptop (movies and youtube, net) is the other source. i have a pair of vmoda bluetooth headphones and want to buy a pair of corsair suround wireless headphones too. but everything still has to play through one set of speakers like they do now.

i am haveing a problem with my new hp laptop and hp usbc gen 5 dock. over usb c my dock does 2 displays (1080p), kb/mouse, usb dac and 1 external hdd. if i am not using the drive to watch movies it will randomly eject and reconnect, at the same time i will lose lan as well. i do not have access to usb sleep options in the power plan section. i do not understand this.

the switch is so disappointing. the switch had so much potential. still does. but they crippled it. a game system, plays games {obviously}, plays local video and online video, plays local music and online music. so a game system the switch is not. no videos no music no Bluetooth headsets = not a game system but a toy that plays games alone. i do own one but if they offered me my money for it and all the games i would return it in a second. it has not even been out of the dock in months. if i go somewhere a take a tablet, plays nes and snes games, does all video content, does all music plus it does web browsing and pictures. the switch is a one trick pony. also not to mention the homepage is not customizable in any way at all. cant organize your games or anything. nintendo has not made a decent console since the gamecube. wii was a trash toy, the wii u was a trash tablet. then we get too the overpriced games botw should have just been called nintendo rpg. if that was the case it would be a great game, but the paper cartoon crap all over the place is not a zelda, equipment breaking is not zelda, no navi not zelda. n64 had zelda down packed as far as 3d zelda goes. if they insist on making it a zelda it was ok if that.

that explains max thoughput but i am asking at 1080p at 60hz, and that is also display only max not with other things.
