  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I flipped the side fans to exhaust and I'm going to try that out and see how it goes. I had tried putting the bottom intake fans to 0 rpm and that seemed to have zero impact on temps. Seemed like the issue was just having more ways for the hot air in the case to get out. Just seems odd to me because the setup I have is what I've seen suggested as the ideal setup in many forums/videos/etc.
  2. Given how popular this case is, this topic has probably been discussed to death but from my search for some feedback, I've found that the generally recommended setup is what I currently have. So here's the question, it's crazy hot in LA right now and on a whim I started seeing if increasing the fan speed of the intake fans under the GPU would lower the GPU temp. Didn't seem to make a difference even at 100% fan speed. So I thought maybe the radiator/fans (it's a Corsair H115i) on top aren't allowing the warm air in the case to leave as quickly as 6 intake fans can bring air in. I manually increased the radiator fan speed to 100% and immediately the GPU temps started decreasing. The fans on the radiator are generally referencing the CPU temp but that doesn't get as warm as the GPU does so the fans don't ramp up as much as they seem to need to adequately cool the case. So now I'm looking for any feedback from really anyone as I'm thinking of buying a H100i 240mm rad so I can side mount it and see how that impacts the CPU and GPU temps (the case doesn't support 140mm fans on the side mounts so I can't mount my current rad there) and hopefully that leads to better GPU temps but that's $150 just to try this out. Hopefully other O-11 owners have some experience with both setups. Radiator is a Corsair H115i with ML 140 fans. Case fans are Corsair LL120, CPU is 9700k/GPU is 2060 Super TL:DR - 280mm Top mount rad/fans seem to not allow the case to exhaust properly due to CPU temps not increasing as much as GPU temps. Considering getting a 240mm rad to side amount and possibly allow better case exhausting. Looking for feedback.
  3. If you dont need it to be your main system and have the time and money to mess around with upgrading an old system, why not? I do understand how you can quickly go into a rabbit hole of well if I upgrade A, I might as well upgrade B and if I upgrade A & B why don't i also upgrade C&D? And quickly something that you intended to spend a small amount on, adds up. Building and tinkering with PCs is fun so I build or upgrade older PCs for fun too and sometimes sell them to friends who might now otherwise be interested in getting a gaming PC.
  4. In case anyone runs into this thread and wonders if there was a solution, it was a failing motherboard. I bought a new Z97 mobo from Newegg, swapped everything out and now there are no issues with swapping parts.
  5. Awesome, I just wanted to check before spending that much on the commander pro. Thanks for the reply.
  6. I'm not entirely sure if this is the best section to ask this question but I'm hoping someone out there has some info. So I have a razer edition of the lian Li O11 case and with the h115i and 8 corsair fans, I need a few 9 pin (I think technically they're 10 pin but you know what I mean) USB 2 headers which my mobo does not have. I was going to get a corsair commander pro since that would work as a USB hub for the various corsair parts but then I realized the case also needs a 9 pin usb2 header and I don't know if that will work correctly through the commander pro. Fortunately the next option is to use a USB hub like the one from NZXT but before I order either that or commander pro, I thought I'd check in here. Does anyone know if I can just use the commander pro?
  7. I'm fairly new to PC building so this may not be correct but I think since you'll have a set of LL120s and a set of ML120s, you'll need an addition RGB fan led hub https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Custom-Cooling/Accessories/CORSAIR-RGB-Fan-LED-Hub/p/CO-8950020 So you would connect one set of fans to the included hub with the 465x and one set of the fans with the one in the link. Fortunately it's pretty cheap at $10. Then you'd connect each hub to a lighting node pro which then gets connected to your MOBO which unfortunately isn't that cheap. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-|-Parts/iCUE-CONTROLLERS/CORSAIR-Lighting-Node-PRO/p/CL-9011109-WW BTW, I'm thinking of swithing my case out for the 465x, I think it looks great and I like that it comes with the 3 LL120s/
  8. I was recently looking for a new 1440p 144 Hz monitor and ended up getting the AOC CQ32G1 from Micro Center for $299 NIB. It's not the best monitor in the world but for that price and size I've really been impressed by it. The MSI MAG27CQ is also a good deal, 27" 1440p 144 Hz for around $330 or so.
  9. I ended up using MiniTool Partition Wizard and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much man!
  10. Awesome, I'll give one of those a try and see if I can get this drive sorted. Appreciate the help man!
  11. I took the original boot HDD from my old PC that is a 1 TB WD Blue HDD to add to my existing 500 gb M.2 drive and a 1 TB SSD. I used disk management to format the HDD to clear the OS and all the files out. Once I connected the formatted drive and booted up again, my computer tried to boot from the HDD and then realizing it was blank, Windows tried to repair the HDD. I went into BIOS and changed the boot drive so now my PC boots up correctly but now the HDD shows up in Disk Management with 4 partitions. I've attached a JPEG for reference, one of the partitions is name Image. When I go into the actual drive through file explorer, it still has a Windows folder. All but the partition named E won't even show options when I right click on them and when I try to delete the E volume, I get a notification that it is currently being used but I have no idea how. Is there anything I can do to format the HDD correctly to just be a blank drive for storage? This is my first time trying to add a formatted HDD so I don't know if what happened with mine is typical and I didn't run into any of this when I added the SSD.
  12. How so? I know the 4790k was a pretty damn good CPU in its day but that was maybe 4 yrs ago? I currently have a pre built Dell and the mobo seems to be dying or at least buggy so I figured it was time for an upgrade with better hardware.
  13. Agreed and I'm coming over from a 4790k so I imagine any of the suggested CPUs would be an improvement from my current experience. I appreciate the input man.
  14. It's true that I'm open to spending more than the $250 but I was going to pass on the roughly $90 saved to maybe getting a better other component. I was planning on getting a 2060 super but I might go for a 2070 super instead or get an AIO instead of an air cooler. I really appreciate everyone's input, I really wanted to see if I wasn't overlooking something between the 8700k and the 9700k that might make sense to spend the extra bit. My budget right now is about $1600 including a monitor so roughly $1200 for the PC itself.
  15. So I'm building a new PC next week (vacation time plus end of the year bonus), I was set on getting a 9700k but I have the opportunity to get a new 8700k for $250 USD. Seems to me that considering the price difference (~$330 vs $250), I might be better off getting the 8700k as the 9700k doesn't seem to be substantially better. Any input would be appreciated as I'm getting close to buying and building. Planned use for the pc is 45% gaming, 45% PS/Clip Studio (with a Wacom tablet plugged in) and 10% CAD (SolidWorks).
