  1. A little more experimentation is required, I agree. My GPU fans are set to my custom profile, which was fan speed % equal to GPU temperature. I could try slowing that down and seeing what happens. Same with CPU fans. Do you think the push/pull config of the Noctua NF-F12 fans could be causing turbulence and creating noise and having a bigger CPU heat sink like a Dark Rock Pro or Noctua NH D15 could help?
  2. Hey all, I have the Phanteks Enthoo Pro computer case. I'd love to keep a balance of noise and thermals, but I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way with the right fans. My case has almost all fan slots used. I used the Asus FanXpert4 to automatically create Silent, Balanced, Turbo and Full Speed profiles, as well as a custom profile that sets fan speed % to be the same as CPU temp. With the custom profile, the fans are decently quiet but internal thermals suffer somewhat. With the turbo, the thermals are better but fans are slightly louder. My girlfriend thinks the noise is fine. The case noise is blocked out when I'm gaming, but if I can hear the fans while web browsing, it's too loud for me. Any sugguestions, recommendations or ways to improve this setup? I've thought of replacing the two front fans with 140mm fans. Bigger fans should mean slower fan speed, right? I have my HDD suspended in the HDD cage via elastic bands, as my HDD was causing vibrations before. Front: 3 be quiet! Silent Wings 2 120mm fans for intake (One is mounted on the HDD cage, about an inch away from graphics card) Bottom: 2 SilenX 120mm fans for intake Top: 2 Fractal Design Silent Series 120mm fans for exhaust Back: 1 Phanteks 140mm fan for exhaust (came with the case) Guts: i5 4670s LGA1150 Haswell Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo with 2 Noctua NF-F12 fans Asus z97-A/3.1 ATX Gigabyte RX 580 8GB 8GB EVGA RAM 2400Mhz EVGA 550w SuperNova G2
  3. 980 Ti, never thought of that. I'll have to see what they're going for around here and on eBay.
  4. Do you think the vram issue is overblown? Meaning, 4GB of vram would be enough?
  5. Hello all I'm currently looking for a graphics card for Forza Motorsport 7. I mostly play video games on my 4K TV, but I can easily move it back to my 1080p monitor. I had been running it with an NVidia GTX 970, but found that it was eating tons of vram, even on 1080p and turning many of the vram intensive video settings down. I recently sold the card and am now looking for a replacement video card. I looked at some benchmarks and saw that the higher end AMD cards were outdoing the comparable NVidia cards. The card I was looking at was an RX 580 8GB, but would this be the best option? I'm looking to stay under $300 and I know the market is...volatile for those looking to buy AMD. 6. I do have the ability to charge the phone via USB while it's on, I just didn't know if it would be good for the phone battery and how hot it would be.
  7. Hey all, I'll be going on vacation in a few weeks, making a 7 hour trip. My car doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and I'd like to use my iPhone SE for GPS and traffic monitoring. I have a phone mount that hooks to my air vent, so I can see the screen whatever phone I put into there. However, I was wondering what would be the best day to maintain the iPhone battery life. Would it be better to: 1) Use the iPhone SE hooked up to a car mount while using an app like Waze, Google Maps or Apple Maps with the screen always on 2) Use the iPhone SE as a Personal HotSpot and use an older phone I have as the GPS. I have an LG Leon that I wiped, so it doesn't have anything extra running on it. I guess it comes down to whether my battery will last longer as a HotSpot or if the screen on/GPS on will be better. Any input or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
  8. It's all HDMI. HDMI from the HDMI 2.0 port on the RX 460 into the HDMI 2.0 port on the TV
  9. It's a Visio 4K "home theater display". It includes 4 HDMI ports, with one of the ports rated as being an HDMI 2.0. This PC is plugged into the HDMI 2.0 port of the TV. https://www.vizio.com/tvs/eseries/e50e3.html
  10. It may not be fast enough, now that I think about it. The cable isn't originally mine, so I doubt it's an HDMI High Speed cable. Then again, would a regular speed HDMI cable even allow 4K/60FPS at all?
  11. Hey all, I recently received a bought Gigabyte RX 460 Windforce 2GB for my HTPC. I wanted it to handle some gaming loads, but also to handle 4K 60FPS for watching movies and web browsing. I have a Vizio 4K home theater display that has 1 HDMI 2.0 port. However, when I set my screen resolution to 1440p or 4K and set refresh rate to 60FPS and do what I want to do, after about 10 minutes the screen will go full screen black, then full screen green, then full screen gray-ish bars for a total of about 5 seconds, then resume to whatever it was displaying before. It doesn't matter if I'm gaming at 4K on a lighter title like Pro Evolution Soccer or just sitting idly on desktop. I'll be playing a game or just browsing the web, that the display issue hits. I don't get any notifications from Windows that the driver crashed. The GPU fans are spinning and GPU temps are hovering around 30c, according to MSI Afterburner. These screen issues don't happen at all on 1080p. I've changed out the HDMI cable and re-seated the GPU. I've removed and reinstalled the drivers a few times, switching between letting Windows get the drivers and just going to the AMD site itself. I'd swap the graphics card, but I don't have another convenient card to drop into it. I'd put my GTX 970 in there, but the power supply doesn't have enough 6-pin connectors to make it work. When looking through the AMD software information, I found an intriguing piece of information that, I'm thinking, is related to the source of my problems. The current PCIe bus settings are currently, "PCI Express 2.0 x4", even though the motherboard is rated at PCIe 2.0 x16. The system was originally put together out of pure curiosity and the fact MicroCenter had the motherboards on sale for $0.01 if I bought a compatible CPU. I couldn't find any options in the BIOS that affect the speed of the PCIe lane. The only thing I found was setting PCIe or Onboard display as the primary display, which is currently set to PCIe Could the PCIe lane be my issue? 12. Appreciate all the replies from everyone, I'll try out some fan splitters.
  13. Will verify when I get back, but I had the controller running at ~ 60% as a base until CPU reached higher temps, higher than 60 celsius. Case fans were spinning fast and loud, intel stock cooler bumped and nudged and weakly spun around once or twice every few seconds.
  14. I have a couple of splitters, this was my next step. My thought was that the Intel Stock Cooler required more power to run, while the case fans required less power, and that's why the case fans were spinning when plugged into the hub.
  15. Thought I had it hooked up correctly. Intel Stock Cooler plugged into fan 1, rest of the fans plugged into 2, 3, 4. The 4 pin CPU_Fan cable that came with the hub goes from 4 pin (CPU_Fan) into the CPU_Fan header. Intel stock cooler wouldn't spin, even after some software fan tuning, and the other 3 fans spun correctly w/ software instructions.
