  1. You're right. It's a lot of mostly vague talk. But they announced it as new features and ways to accomplish things. I think the big take here is that you can now import/export with keeping dependencies more in check. One of the most annoying things in the past is trying to share models between 2 different pieces of software and having to export to a middle ground format and losing all the features or steps used to make it in the name of protecting potential proprietary information. Now they're saying it'll retain that info for a standardized workflow. I'm really curious myself b/c I can 3D model like an expert in some of these platforms but not in others... If I can transfer my modeling skills over without all the extra work of re-training myself. The better. Door WILL open with that type of change. Oh and btw, rendering in some of this apps are just a downright pain. The fact Unreal can now REALTIME synchronize models from Inventor or Revit and render that with affects is a game changer. Digital Twin workflows now seem more possible than ever.
  2. Summary Autodesk University 2022 (a Conference with news for the engineering/design world) was held in new Orleans this year to share industry talks. See below links for keynote speeches. These were quite eye opening to see the mega giant CAD company has really pushed themselves into other industries than just CAD. They barely talked about anything traditional engineering CAD and instead really pushed the entertainment sector to the forefront with how their products are being used for new movies and shows like The Lord of the Rings show Rings of Power by Amazon and a dozen plus other franchises. They also announced they are now partnering with EPIC GAMES and Unreal Engine and pushing their Cloud data solutions! My thoughts I could barely contain myself as I heard this news. From what it sounds like, they are going to bring the engineering CAD tools we all love to entertainment world. Assets will be accessible between studios & companies? I emphasis the ? mark because as usual, Autodesk is being vague about the potential this news can have. The Unreal news very Interesting news for the engineering world. But currently it only covers a small portion of the Autodesk platform. I wish to hear more details on the matter to see if they plan to push it further into other applications. I personally went to a few events where expert users were using Unreal, opening files in Maya, then exporting to 3D Studio Max and exporting again to be used in Inventor and other CAD like programs... Then use the same path in reverse to export back for color scaling and testing in the game environments. One event discussed how they could use the Unreal tools to make online virtual meetings with notes on how to design the games with web platforms in mind and how to help ensure non-game users are able navigate the environments. 3. As far as my experience with it. It's something you use with ease. You never bear weight on it. It's pretty comfortable to use and it stays still and comfortable when you're really using it hard. In fact I never notice it being any type of problem with strain or anything. I haven't heard anyone complaining about it in any of the offices besides the initial learning curve. It maybe due to the fact that it's very sensitive and there's no need to grip it like a racing wheel. And everyone in the office find ourselves missing the Space Mouse for any other task. It just feels so natural. As far as price, wow it jumped... It used to be $85-100 10 years ago. Then $125 just 2 years ago. Now I see it for $177. Look at that inflation go brrrrrrr!
  4. @manikyath, Cost prohibitive sure for most. But my gaming mouse is anywhere from $90-$150 and people spend more than that on keyboards. Anything's possible in this realm. Especial for that extra fine control over a kill shot. In my case I like the extra buttons so I don't have to reached too far away for a macro. I can see the benefit with additional axis control. Or maybe a way to pan in a top down RTS without having to move your mouse. My current 3D space mouse has 12 directional inputs (I think) plus twist...oh and tilt and the 2 side buttons. It's wireless and the battery life is great.
  5. I just wanted to share a discussion idea. Could you use a 3D mouse (3D Space Mouse like from 3Dconnexion) to play games with? And how do you do it? I saw a post saying you can play Sims with it. Then I saw someone saying they can play COD with it too. So I plugged mine in (from work) and couldn't get it to work and just gave up without too much playing around with the settings and forgot all about the idea. But the question returned again when I was playing a game with poor controls. So I'm curious to see if anyone else has tried it and succeeded. Check out this forum post where this guy created his own gaming setup around one of these things. Epic gaming rig part! https://forum.3dconnexion.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=33966 Maybe Linus and the team would like to try out a bunch of the 3D space mice out, compare them for various games and in a later video create their own parts like that link shows? Could almost make 3+ videos out of these things with their potential for new discussions. Maybe even a sponsorship with the manufacturers.
  6. One of the Windows 10 updates we received started suspending programs in the background. We can see the the programs are suspended within Task Manager. This effects Microsoft Teams, web browsers, and some other programs here and there, including during an install of an Autodesk product. We have two IT companies reaching out to Microsoft support but they don't know how to handle it. I've read on one site that this occurs b/c the Windows update protective programs are still running even when the update is done and complete. Another theory is that around the same time, our IT had to enact an additional layer of Microsoft Authentication for each individual user during the same time frame. The theory is that it's also causing the suspensions. Anyone else having these programs lock up? It's affecting over 50 people at minimum. Example of Chrome and other browsers problem: It randomly loads forever on new tabs. Until you kill the task that is suspended or restarting the entire application. Example of Teams problem: Will randomly disconnect / lose connection to the internet/network. The workaround is to right click on task bar and pressing quit. Then restarting the application.
  7. Video Suggestion: Exhaust Fan with bluetooth and/or smart home features with speaker and customizable LED lights. Started a small conversation about the idea here: This can be related to the in ceiling speaker options out there too... Though I don't think the quality will be on par, but we have no way of telling unless ppl review them.
  8. So an update to this. I went to a local hardware store and found this speaker/fan/LED light fixture. They are pitching it for all areas of the house too. And it's quite bright and the sound quality actually sounded decent on some of the models. I found 3 compatible versions that work with cell phones, all 3 bluetooth compatible and 1 touting Alexa ready at a higher price for some reason. They had them installed into demo units as an example and came with remotes that can pop into light switch plates. The demo units weren't wired /setup very well and the songs were so loud I felt embarrassed pressing the button. But still seemed like a cool concept. When you're concerned with having to get permits to expand on your pre-wired locations and do want ceiling speakers, this almost seems like a viable solution. Especially humid locations like the bathroom or kitchen. They showed these in a indoor wet room / hot pub and / indoor pool at a club or convention center. Leave it sales to grey area the crap out of the photos. PS: I know they make ceiling speakers without fans. But depending on your house layout and limitations, you could possibly reverse electrical connections or something to use them as blowers for other rooms for new ducting. Just an idea.
  9. So I stumbled across this unique idea and I think the team could look into it as an idea for Linus' new Smart Home makeover. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Home-NetWerks-1-5-Sone-110-CFM-White-Bathroom-Fan/1000955528 It doesn't have to be exactly this part. Just an interesting idea. Especially b/c it says bluetooth for music, but I really doubt it'll allow a Smart home network to link up to it and play music through it... and if it doesn't, what would? And what would Linus use? I'm actually curious b/c I'm remodeling a bathroom myself and would hate to install something so limited. Neat concept though. I may just go for a dumb exhaust fan though.
  10. I would ask this in the Autodesk Forums. I believe this can be cleaned up in the graphic settings... Some of this is something you can just ignore and keep modeling through. But again I'd ask at the forums as you'll get more people with experience there.
  11. ^see title. My work/office computer is certainly lacking and I've been asked to gather info on something more heavy duty for our Engineering department. Just want to make sure I'm in the right area.
  12. I'm sorry I didn't reply. Notifications found themselves in the spam folder. @PlayStation 2 I want to say yes, same hardware, but I can't remember if I played it on Xbox 360 or Xbox One. And no only about 25-35% of the games have that Overscan slider. And all the games with the slider, I can barely get the corners inside the the screen anymore... Again in the past I could. Also it is HDMI cable each time. It is a 720p max on a 42" screen. The menu settings are impossible to change atm b/c no remote <- no universal remote doesn't help. Which is why I'm not to worried about it. Just more fascinated by the worsening condition lol. I agree, this TV isn't all that great... But I think you're right... maybe the age has kicked in and Xbox detects it like a analog source now b/c it's such an old tech but b/c the setting in settings hasn't change it still reads it and sends the wrong signal. I have a family member with an equal age and brand TV and it's already burned in (black shadowy botches) and it's side buttons crackle when pressing and refuses to register key presses most the time and now the sound on it died and not all HDMI ports work anymore and one of them that was working was not detected as digital but as SD and I couldn't get xbox to detect it correctly. Then a week later it just stopped functioning on that port all together which tells me it was just failing. I'm frankly surprised my TV still works as well as it does for something this old lol. But it has a lot less "Powered On" hours than my family member's TV. TL:DR summary: It's possible that the TV's age is the causing the HDMI ports to falsely report to connected device's it's digital info... Both TV's used to run on Xboxes just fine and detect HMDI info no problem. Now it's a crap shoot. Maybe the motherboard connections are delaminating and only a of few of the wires send signal now. Who knows? All theorizing at this point.
  13. Does Overscan progressively get worse overtime? I ask b/c I have an old 42" TV, flat screen LCD. It's not particularly expensive and it's 13 yrs old. I just thought it was weird that things like HUDs on our games are getting worse over the years. Proof, just started up a game we completely played/beat on this same TV 6-8+ years ago and now, we can't even see elements in HUD that we need. It's impossible to play the game now. PS: TV doesn't allow for adjusting. So I know it's a loss cause. But I thought it would be interesting to report that this LCD is/had/getting worse and I've never seen anyone ever mention that this is a symptom for TVs. Maybe a new phenomenon?
  14. Yea there's 2 pretty nice builds on benchmark showing 32GB but in a pair of 2x16=32GB at 3200GHz. So that means they took out the 8GB stick in there now to do that and that kinda seems a shame to waste. I have another Laptop which is my main gaming machine... It has 16GB weirdly on board... and 2 open bays for RAM DDR4... maybe I could transfer the the 8GB from the 1 to this one... So long as the speed matches it should be fine. <-- everyone agree? (I'm pretty rusty in building) Update: I just went and checked my notes on my personal gaming laptop, it has 4 slots, 2 empty, 2 are Hynix HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH 2x8GB which looks to be 2400GHz. Low Hz b/c I have a Ryzen 7 2700 which I believe people said it couldn't run as high or something at that gen. Not that I'm complaining. I think my wife is going to have a stronger laptop than mine lol.
  15. GWTN156-3BK is the model. On crucial looking it up. I can't find it there.
