CanadianJet's Achievements

  1. From experience and asking this question myself in past builds, it is cleaner to do a fresh install of windows on the new SSD.
  2. I have APC and Cyberpower in my work office, both work great. The APC's we have had for 5+ years (the battery had to be switch on one of them, but it let us know), and the Cyberpower's have been around for 2 years with no issues and several power outages.
  3. Easier said than done, I have to remove my cpu fan to access the m.2 slot... I booted into windows no problem with the disc disconnected. Do I need to worry about the 'Active' label of the partition? The option is greyed out for Disc 4.
  4. Unplugged disc 3 and booted into Windows no problem. I am assuming the 'Active' Status is irrelevant then?
  5. I recently purchased a new 2 TB SSD for my game library. I previously had games spread out on my previous 4 drives. I would like to wipe both 120 gb SSD's for a fresh slate on both of them. However, on Disk 3 used to have my windows 10 installation. I added a M.2 later and re-installed windows there, and later upgraded to windows 11. It appears that the system reserved and recovery partitions stayed behind on the old drive and are Active. Can I format disk 3 safely without borking my system? Also, I don't know why my M.2 has so many recovery partitions... TIA
  6. Budget (including currency): n/a Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, Video Streaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Upgrading from Ryzen 3 3200g apu. Existing TV is 1080p but will be upgrading. TV for movies and streaming will be a 4K 120hz capable display. Monitor for games is 27” 1080p. Will a 3050 be the right choice for this setup?
  7. I have an 8 year old laptop that when I bought new was used for architectural modelling and rendering. It is now quite outdated even for gaming. I now plan on using it to host a minecraft server. However, at idle, temps sometimes spike to 77c, but hover around 48-55 usually. Room temp in the summer right now is at 24-27c. I'm not sure what I can do to keep the temps down when I do get the server up and running. Suggestions? TIA. Specs: Cpu: Intel i5-3230M Gpu: Geforce GT 740M Ram: 12 GB DDR3 1600MHz HP Envy 17" Laptop
  8. I am a high-end home designer in the Fraser Valley, and I deal in 3D renderings and modelling of those homes. This includes VR walkthroughs of the home. I have designed theatre rooms and media rooms in the past as part of large houses. If this is a service that Linus is interested in, I'd love to offer my services!
  9. Is your mouse wireless/have you tried a different mouse? Storage shouldn't be the cause of mouse input delay. The other thing I can think of would be your internet connection if you are playing online.
  10. Hi! I am discussing with my boss about updating my workstation. Normally he will buy a Thinkstation Desktop from his computer guy. I suggested maybe building our own to see if we would save money. We run Revit Architecture in our office, and Enscape as our rendering software. Revit runs on CPU, Enscape uses GPU. I based my initial planning on what Lenovo offers on their website for the Thinkstation P520, with 2 upgrades to 32gb RAM, Quadro P4000. 11. Thanks for the input. I haven't thought of going amd. I will look into that. Thanks!
  12. Revit with Enscape as the renderer. Everything in the case is mostly proprietary from lenovo, the psu is 230W.
  13. My workstation needs a gpu update. I'm working on a Lenovo P300 Thinkstation with a Nvidia K620 gpu. It is starting to bug out when trying to render. I'm thinking of getting a P1000 to replace it, unless there is a better option for that size? It needs to be small form factor to fit in the case and space. Thanks in advance!
  14. Hey all, I'm currently running a workstation from lenovo, Thinkstation P300. Inside I have a quadro k620, and it is not working well for rendering anymore. The company i work for uses Enscape for rendering (recommends a gtx 1050 or greater) and Revit for modelling/drafting. I may just build a whole new computer if that is the most cost effective. The case is narrow, so that limits just swapping out the GPU, so a new case for sure, and a new gpu would be great. I don't need a new cpu or motherboard, peripherals, or monitors. (provided proprietary motherboards/cpus can be used in the new build.) storage is not an issue. PSU would probably have to be upgraded. Thanks for the help in advance,
  15. So what I am learning is that a couple smallish upgrades and these will work great for playing a dvd, (though i would swap one drive out for a blu-ray). A budget gpu will allow them to work just fine for watching NHL livestreams. There would be no software installed besides powerlink dvd. these would not be for gaming under any circumstance...
