  1. Hey folks, apologies if this isn't the right place for this thread, but I've found the community's advice on builds and things very helpful. What is a sensible way to distribute a gigabit fibre connection from isp to a c.1200 sqft. apartment? I have Cat6e wired up to each room and would probably plug a switch into each of those terminals just to handle all the devices in each room. So what about access points and Cloud gateways and all that? I can afford Ubiquiti's U7 Pro and a dream machine but do I need them? What's the best match of price and performance etc. Thank you!
  2. @LinusTech Linus and his team are and have always been a group of selfless, hardworking individuals who have worked their hardest to deliver the best products they can to an extremely demanding audience. I just wanted to say I stand 100% with LMG and look forward to this new chapter of the channel, even though it was brought about in unfortunate circumstances. Keep your heads up team; I'm rooting for you!

Noctua all the way. I bought the U12S Redux recently as a quick solution, and ended up beating my PB in XTU Benchmarks. Quiet fan, SecuFirm is goated and Noctua just does it best.
  4. Hi folks, I have the opportunity to get either a Sony A90K or an LG C2 48" for use as a computer monitor. I am replacing an LG C1 that had a few dead pixels but that I had covered with Geek Squad. Is the lack of G-Sync on the A90K going to cause me issues? The A90K has VRR but no G-Sync, but I feel myself being attracted to Sony's picture processing AND Google TV is nicer than webOS (in my opinion because there are no ads). My head says get C2 because it'll be broadly the same as C1 and G-Sync won't let me down, but my heart is set on the Sony because of the colouring and picture quality. Advice please!
  5. So I want to set up my PC out of the room like Linus does. I've seen his 1800 dollar fiber optic hubs but also saw him take the CalDigit TS4 home with him so what does he use that for? Wouldn't it just be way cheaper to run a thunderbolt 4 cable through the walls and get a Thunderbolt dock rather than the whole fiber optic system. What are the benefits to fiber?
  6. Just wanted to come back and say a massive thank you for this!
  7. So I'm trying to do my own version of Linus' Smallest Gaming PC Build. I want to put a Ryzen 7 3700X in an ASRock AB350 Gaming ITX Mobo. Compatibility checkers are telling me that I may need to have an old CPU handy to update the bios before it'll work. Does anyone know if this is true or how I can solve this effectively?
  8. Thank you. Unfortunately, the software is unavoidable, but I'll use a high IPC or overclock.
  9. Hey no worries! If you were bored and did want to throw something together then that'd be great. Otherwise, your other comment was super useful!

  11. Hey everybody, So my dad is a Music Producer and is constantly getting fed up of waiting for his old machinery to wind up before inevitably crashing and ruining his workflow. So, the rest of the family and I thought we'd club together to get him something that will just eliminate waiting times from the equation so that he can focus on his work. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to put in this build (along with any tips for how to optimise it). He works with Pyramix. This build would need (I think): A processor with enough cores and threads to satisfy what seems to be a pretty greedy software. (Some of you may know to what extent Pyramix is optimised for more cores). Enough RAM to deal with producing, rendering and syncing cloud storage simultaneously (16GB?) Ethernet Port Wireless Internet An SSD to put Windows on Some form of HDMI or DP for the monitor CD Drive Lots of USB 3.0 ports (5?) 3.5mm headphone jack Sufficient cooling obviously An appropriate power supply (which presumably wouldn't have to be too powerful since there won't be a GPU, although it's best to aim a bit higher than you need for future upgrades) A subtle looking tower that looks professional The budget would be anywhere between $800 and $1200 and any remaining funds could usefully go towards high speed internal storage, which could be used for storing the project(s) that are currently being worked on. Thanks so much for your help and I look forward to hearing all of your suggestions and tips!
