  1. Now THAT'S a really unpopular opinion haha. I've really given up on mobile gaming because of : - Freemium games that prevent any progress without money after a few days - Games riddled with ads and IAP - Ridiculously-priced game-breaking IAP in all mobile games (99$ options in almost all of these games) - Pay-to-win : no real competition anymore - Energy systems : I want to play whenever I want however long I want (Would you have any cool mobile game suggestions that wouldn't fill any of the categories mentioned above on Android ? I don't mind paying for a good game and I don't mind reasonable IAP !)
  2. That's a good lesson for all of us who didn't use to read them, that's for sure... ? Not that I'll start reading these paaaages-long pop-ups when I install things but I'll definitely be more cautious from now on haha. Yes, that's a fair point and that's true, but seeing the relatively big amount of people who didn't seem to know either, I really think it's more a problem of communication from their side, rather than "you guys should have read these super important rules hidden in that tiny link that we never mentioned anywhere". I mean, there were just TWO rules : "be older than 13, and don't be from these countries". How hard would it have been to copy/paste them anywhere else ? You can't really expect teenagers to have the instant reflex to dive in terms and conditions links, can you ? But yeah, as you said, that will serve as a good lesson for all of us in the end. It still was valuable experience and it still was fun to work on our videos !
  3. Linus in the video : "Contest open to everyone everywhere outside Canada or USA" Linus in the video description : "3. Best International Candidate (Gives us your best shot!)" Linus in the contest page : " We convinced ASUS ROG to fly in one lucky winner outside of North America!" imreloadin : " LoL iNtErNaTiOnAl cAn mEaN AnYtHiNg aS LoNg aS ThErE ArE 2 CoUnTrIeS" You're missing the point, mate. We're complaining about the lack/weakness of communication on such a vital criteria of the contest. It's borderline false advertising and enticed dozens and dozens of people to work hours and hours on contest entries, participating in its popularity and brand awareness, not having been made aware that their countries were excluded. LMG could not have changed this ruling, but they could have saved everyone a lot of time. (Including themselves because now they'll have to go through each entry and manually filter out entries from excluded countries.) So in the end, YES, there were a lot of things they could have done to change that : - Not hiding this critical exclusion list in a tiny link to the terms and conditions in one single place, the contest entry page. - Mentioning it in the video (it would have taken 2 seconds to mention "some countries might be excluded") - Mentioning it in the video description - Mentioning it in the contest entry page - Mentioning it in the main forum post - Mentioning it in the social media posts Sounds easy enough. But hey, I guess it's more flattering for marketing teams at Asus to have more entries, no matter how valid they are. And just to cement our point since you're not really reading : we're not hoping to change the ruling nor are we complaining frontally about it : the reasons are Asus', their game their rules, there's nothing to do about it and it's fine. We just WISH we'd have been publicly and clearly warned about this, before pouring in hours and hours of work into this. THAT'S ALL. But hey, keep rejoicing yourself that dozens and dozens of people wasted their valuable time by being falsely lead to believe they could enter the contest, you sure sound cool.
  4. That's my main problem with this whole exclusion thing : it was stated nowhere. Not in the video, not in the video description, not in the social media posts, not in the contest forum post, not in the contest entry page. It was hidden in the terms and conditions tiny link at the bottom of the contest entry page. That's my biggest grudge. I'm sure a very fair amount of people from these excluded countries count for the 2.5k entries currently submitted, spent hours of hard work and participated in this contest's popularity and brand awareness that comes with it. The least we could've expected is to have had this exception ruling explained straight from the beginning. Whether Asus had issues with local laws, taxes issues, complicated visa... That's up to them and that makes sense, it would be fair. But advertising an international contest and then discreetly banning half of EU and other big market countries ? Not cool and not well-handled.
  5. There are currently 2.5k entries in the contest. I'm sure a considerable amount of entries were submitted by people from these excluded countries and thus participated in the popularity of this contest and the brand awareness that went with it. So yes, I do think it would have been fair from LTT and Asus to handle the presentation for this contest more professionally, and very vocally state this important exclusion rule both in the video, in the video description, and in the forum post for the contest instead of falsely advertising an "international" contest. And yes, I do think that understanding why certain countries were excluded from this contest would make all of the candidates from these countries, who all worked hard on their entries, to accept such a decision. It would seem less random and arbitrary for all of us if it was explained that it was for legal or monetary or visa or tax reasons or whatever. I mean, look at the most viewed submission right now, from a Russian guy (excluded country), it's a super high-quality short-movie video. I'm sure he spent a very considerable amount of time filming, directing, lighting and editing his video. I'm sure he'd have loved to know his country would be excluded from the contest before putting hours in his entry. Just my two cents.
  6. That's a fair point and I understand, I wasn't directly blaming LTT as I'm sure they had no bearing in this. But that's precisely my issue : that it wasn't publicly disclosed and explained before-hand (and not just in small prints). That would have saved a lot of people a lot of time.
  7. I just sumbled upon this post by @Something random : Apparently, 13 countries are excluded from the contest. So much for an "international category" ! Countries Excluded: Taiwan, South Korea, Portugal, Italy, Austria, China, Russia, Hong Kong, Greece, France, Japan, Spain, Czech Republic. I and I'm sure many others are wondering why our countries would be excluded from the contest. Is it from Asus ? From Linus ? What would be the reasons for this ? Thank you.
  8. I mean, sure, but announcing an INTERNATIONAL contest open for people everywhere outside of the USA or Canada (per the video) is dramatically different than randomly excluding 13 countries and hiding this extremely important fact in small prints in the terms and conditions of the contest page. Not only that, but whether you fly from France, Italy and Portugal (excluded) or Germany (allowed) to Canada, the plane tickets prices are sensibly the exact same. So ovbiously the issue here isn't monetary. I think it's very fair of us to ask the reasons for this. Especially since a lot of us worked hard on our entries thinking it would be valid, only to learn 2 days before the end of the contest that our country is somehow excluded. @James Any words on this ? Thanks.
  9. What would his budget be, approximately ? The tough part about his needs is that both 3D and serious filmmaking require a lot of power. Worse even, nowadays 3D relies more and more on the GPU (live rendering, most modern renderers like Octane, Redshift, Cycles...) whereas video editing focuses more on the CPU. So you'd need decent pieces for both of these, with enough ram to keep everything up. Let us know more about the budget and details about his needs (does he edit 4K videos for exemple ?) !
  10. Windows Phones were really cool, innovative, fast, pretty and most importantly different. They provided a great and promising alternative to iOS and Android that was unfortunately slowly butchered by series of terrible decisions, but had they had better app support and coverage they would have been a real joy to use. The OS itself was a lot of fun to use and had a lot of very good ideas well-implemented, some of which, years before Android or iOS caught up on them. I really miss my yellow Lumia 820 !
  11. I don't know why, but the Duolingo threats memes always crack me up :
  12. I feel like they'll delay the release of the 7T Pro for 6 month, like they unfortunately commonly do lately, with yet another premium on the 7 Pro Price. 7 : $559 7 Pro : $669 7T : $599 7T Pro : $699 - $749 ??? Ever since OPPO acquired OnePlus, I've been disappointed by the lack of true distinctive innovation that really sets them apart from their competitors, like it used to. Now, whatever new tech these big chinese companies implement on their devices : Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Redmi... And now OnePlus, they'll all have pretty much the same stuff crammed in different brandings, and voilà.
  13. Haha thank you ! I wouldn't worry much about the quality of execution as long as it's funny and/or creative. As long as you tried you hardest and it shows in the video, I'm sure you won't be overlooked just because you're not a video editor for a living or something haha The warmer though... Trust me, this laptop is plenty warm enough haha, I'm just covering a huge hole in the chassis !
