  1. I want to run an android emulator to play 3-4 instances of a mobile game at once, but my current VM, nox uses ~35% cpu usage and up to 20% gpu usage per instance while I'm playing so I can't do that with nox. :[ Are there more efficient android emulators? preferably ones with gpu acceleration to take more load off my cpu.
  2. okay then ill just suck it up :[
  3. ohh sorry I see that I had some really bad grammar, what I wanted to say was I don't care that much about recovering the data. It would be really nice to use my hard drive again though
  4. what would this ticking sound like? I can hear a soft printer sound every ~4s and constant whirring getting the data back isn't a massive concern but would be nice. but being able to use my drives again would be nice. What kind of place would I have to go to if I want my hard drive fixed?
  5. When I turn on my computer, 3TB seagate barracuda (with a different drive letter) gets up to 100% active time, 0ms average response time, zero read speed, and zero write speed in task manager for like 20~30 seconds and then it disappears from the drive list. the model number is ST3000DM001 and the PN code is 9YN166-306. In my uefi/bios it's also not listed in the drives list. The entry in the "sata configuration" category is "not present" Is there any hope of me salvaging my hard drive?
  6. I'm planning on buying a 4k ips monitor for gaming in the coming weeks and I'm stuck on which monitor I should buy. I'm leaning toward an LG 27UD68 or a Dell P2715q which are both 27" 4k ips monitors. My monitor stand fits 3 monitors up to 28" on the diagonal so I'd like to use it for all 3 of my monitors, but I've heard that 27"-28" is pretty small for 4k and that I'd likely have to scale up text to be able to read it properly, so I don't know whether I should buy one of these two monitors or something bigger like an AMH 399u or something else of that size.
  7. Should there be screws underneath the rubber plugs or are the plugs there in place of screws?
  8. I want to mount my pb238q on a monitor stand, but the places where the screw holes should be for the vesa mount has these rubber squares instead of screws. As far as I can tell, these aren't buttons and I cant find a way to remove them. http://www.manualslib.com/manual/405708/Asus-Pb238q.html?page=13 this online manual shows the monitor having screws, and that the vesa mounting kit is sold separately. Is it referring to something like this? or an adapter that asus sells separately?
  9. what are the major differences between archive drives and desktop drives and nas drives?
  10. he has ~29TB of company data spread across external hard drives on a shelf at the moment. I'm guessing only 1/3 or so of the data needs to be regularly accessed because some of it is several years old.
  11. He said he wanted to make sure he didn't need to replace some hardware one day in case he needs to expand
  12. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/KpTH9W so I was making a parts list for my uncle's file server that he wants to expand one day to the full 24x4TB of drives when his storage needs change, and I've been stuck on choosing the motherboard and the ram. The CPU is probably going to be a slightly old Xeon E5 2670. FreeNAS is probably going to be the OS so he'll need ECC ram. For the motherboard, any size factor should work, but preferably one with onboard 10gigabit ethernet so he don't have to buy an add-on pci-e card and the ram.
  13. I'm going to be putting my drives in a raid6 config, and eventuallyTM expanding up to 24 drives and I don't wanna have to fully rebuild my array, as I'm going to be expanding in many small increments preferably under 800cad, and as high as 1200cad Also, does anyone know what OS I should use? I'm not sure which OS I want to use, but probably some linux distro like FreeNAS or something cos they're free
  14. No probably not Linus said 27inch monitors barely fit Perhaps a 28inch in the middle and 24inces on either side?
  15. yeah, it does make sense to encode in h265 rather than h264 when working with the original source but dam i guess if going from lossy to another lossy would result in more lost data I guess it's not for me then lol what type of data do you think would be a lossless source? despite not being a perfect 50% reduction that's what like 35-40% in most of the cases? Assuming equivalent video quality, any decrease in file size is great in my books
