  1. I would still check the temps through msi afterburner because your case can feel fine but your cpu could be frying
  2. Have you checked your cpu temps when playing? And you said that you store your games on your nvme so if that's true I doubt it's your hdd. Also how much ram do you have?
  3. Oh damn a 2080ti. How much are they selling the PC for? Also I wanted to see what else they are selling.
  4. Yeah, I've actually seen the same issues I'm dealing with from other people's posts on Tom's hardware and reddit, it seems that the bios of this specific laptop is garbage when it comes to power control and throttling, as well as a pretty bad cooling system. I've somewhat fixed the issue tho. I can force a 4ghz clock in throttlestop when playing games, but the problem is that the CPU stays at 100° like that, so I guess the closest solution would be that I need to buy a cooling pad and hope it can keep the laptop at 90° when gaming. Also another issue that I've found is that when running synthetic benchmarks, the clock speed doesn't get nearly as low as it does while gaming (gets at around 2.8ghz at it's lowest when running cpu benchmarks, which is about double the lowest clock speed I've seen while gaming). Kinda guess I should've done more research, but I've had pretty good experiences with the Dell optiplex line, so I really didn't see how they could screw up their laptops. Plus I got it for 500 bucks for college, so imma just get a cooling pad and hope it can keeps the temps in check. Super weird performance issues, never buying a Dell laptop again. Also yeah, I noticed that the laptop limits my CPU to just 15 friggin watts when playing games like cyberpunk and horizon. Throttlestop proves it's all firmware, as I know it can keep at 3ghz with relatively ok temps.
  5. I've used throttlestop, Intel xtu, gpuz/cpuz and cinebench to both monitor and benchmark, trying to see what specifically effects performance. All show serious throttling regardless of temperature or even cpu use. All of the drivers are up to date. The highest temperature recorded for the cpu was 92°, and the highest GPU temp was 84° which is within these chips thermal thresholds. Ive checked wattage to see if maybe my charger was defective, and those are working fine. I've run a diagnostic and gotten no errors. And no, using an external monitor does nothing to impact the performance. What Intel XTU has reported that might be important is that the CPU is frequently power limit throttling, around 78% of the time, while being plugged into the wall.
  6. It doesn't seem that there's any gpu spike during the throttling. I'm fact gpu usage is kinda low. Also, the cpu throttles even when it's temperature is at a reasonable level. Like it'll run at 1.5ghz at 70°. I honestly am stumped as to why it's doing this. It only happens when I game too.
  7. It doesnt seem that the gpu is hitting its thermal limit, as the highest ive seen it was 83 degrees.
  8. Its definitely hurting performance dramatically, I got from 60fps to 30 in about 5 minutes, as the core clock continues to drop.
  9. I recently bought a Dell G3 gaming laptop, and have noticed some odd behavior when it comes to its performance. I was trying to test the limits of the laptop and noticed that the cpu would throttle for no apparent reason. The gpu seems to stay at a consistent clock speed and hovers around 80-82 Degrees. My cpu, on the other hand, jumps erratically from clock speeds to its thermals. Its incredibly random and I really have no idea how to fix it. The cpu is really pulling down performance from a laptop that I know can do better. Im also playing while plugged into the wall. Specs are as follows: I5 9300H Gtx 1660ti Max-Q 16GB DDR4 2400 mhz ram 480GB SSD 1TB Hard Drive When fast travelling to a new area, my clock speed goes straight back up to 4ghz, then slowly drops down to an abysmal 1.4ghz. Whats weird is that its seem that the cooler the chip gets, the worse performance it outputs. I have no idea what is happening. If anyone has a fix, that'd be great. I really wanna use this thing for more than just watching youtube.
  10. The i Series of cpus came out after that motherboard socket. Since you're budget is low, I'd go for an lga 1150 motherboard. Heck, I'll send you an i5 4570 that I'm not using. All you'd need to buy it a motherboard (Lga 1150 motherboards go for like 30-50 buck on ebay) and some ram (8gb of ddr3 goes for 20-25 bucks on ebay, although I'd personally try to get 16 gigs).
  11. My B, didn't see that in the listing. Then yeah, the only thing he would need to upgrade for instant better performance would be a gpu.......but let's be honest, that might not happen any time soon
  12. Tbh the only part currently that would boost performance rather significantly would be upgrading the GPU. I currently have a 3700x with a 2070 and am still, for the most part, gpu bottlenecked. For you, I'd go for something like a 3060ti or higher, as that has about as much performance as a 2080S. Your cpu can definitely handle more GPU power. Other than that, everything else seems to be pretty good and future proof. Also, if you're doing any overclocking, you'll probably want to change out the default CPU cooler with something a little more robust. Hope this helps
