VM will NOT work, it does not have enough resources GPU wise to run any graphic intensive games. If you know of a VM that would run, let me know and I will try that. -

Good idea, but if I remember, the way these games ran was putting in the CD and it would load from there, if the CD was not in the DVD-Drive, then the game would not run, but I am going to give this a try. -

I have an older HP, I am going to try that too, and I think I have a MB with the CPU and RAM from almost that time that I can throw in a case and try that as well... BUT, my main aim other than try a tech project to resurrect WinXP as a challenge is just to be able to play those games again.... -

This M900 has Processor : 1x 6th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-6700 Processor(Core i7-6700). So I guess no luck...???? I have watched tons of YT clips where guys are loading XP on laptops from 2021/2020... If they are able to do it, there has to be a way..... As for the drivers, I have them saved up( I am a driver Hoarder... lol) from way back... If this is not possible.. is there a way to play these games (with CD) on modern PC's with wheel and paddles? -
Alright, first hear me out... So, I have a ton of NFS games on CD's that I used to play back in the day on WinXP. I had a wheel and paddles and it was so much fun. This is what I am trying to do: Create a WinXP machine( WinXP SP3- I have the ISO) Load the games from CD's and just play and have fun. I know, I know... WinXP is not safe, But I do not intend to connect this machine to the Internet, so I am sure it is not like if I load WinXP the PC will explode or something.. This is a fun project, and I get to play the NFS with a Wheel and paddled ( Hate the Controller S_it, who drives with a controller) The Issue I am having is the M900 has NO IDE HD options in the BIOS, and I have tried a few things, 2 HD's and 3 ISO files, but I cannot install WinXP. There are 2 basic blocks I am getting: 1) I get a BSOD which essentially says that the BIOS I have is not "FULLY" AHCI compliant...( Although in the BIOS AHCI is selected) 2) I have pressed the F7 when the loading starts, but then it comes back with an error: Your hard drive has viruses or something like that. I have formatted, Cleared(DiskPart) and reformatted both the HD's I have tried twice, so there cannot be any viruses... For the AHCI compliance error, I have slipstreamed the AHCI drivers using nLite, but that does not seem to work either. So I am asking for help... My main purpose is to be able to play the NFS games with the wheel and paddles, if there is a way to do that on Win10, I am all ears... Or Help me figure out what the heck is going on with the M900 and how to get the WinXP installed on it.

I do understand that, I am going to buy both but not together, that was my question, which one First would make the most sense... and I am agreeing with the replies, I am of the same opinion, GPU and then Monitor.

I was thinking the same, but then Youtube screwed me up... so I came to my friends here for advice...

I have 3 monitors, what's the best way to add 4 more
The_Geek replied to marvnvram's topic in Graphics Cards
Just get a USB3 to DP adapter, they are cheap. Look for similar to this https://www.amazon.com/ABLEWE-Graphics-Converter-Projector-Compatible/dp/B07TT6WZ7V/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3W03G788SHUC9&keywords=usb3+to+hdmi&qid=1654185876&s=electronics&sprefix=USB3%2Celectronics%2C79&sr=1-4 -
EVGA for sure. Better build quality. MSI fans can become an issue, had 2 fail on a GPU sometime back, never bought any MSI products after that.

So guys, I have RTX3060 and LG 32GK650F-B 32, 144 Hz Monitor. System AMD R9 5900x 64 GB RAM 850W PSU I usually only play a couple of games, Destiny2, Sniper Elite, etc. There is nothing wrong with the PC But I want to upgrade either of the 2 parts I mentioned in the header. GPU or Monitor? 3060 is doing good, monitor is 144Hz as well. If I was to upgrade one of these which would make more sense? GPU Upgrade to RTX3070ti/3080 or Monitor upgrade to Samsung G7 240 Hz? Both are about the same price. Which upgrade first makes more sense?

A fatal hardware error has occurred. reported by component: processor core error source: machine check exception error type: cache hierarchy error processor apic id: 15 Just built this system: 3700X ( No OC) ASUS Prime X470 Pro OLOy DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3200 MHz CL16 1.35V Stock Cooler Corsair CX Series 430 Watt 80 Plus Bronze Win10 21H1 XPM profile 1: 3200 MHz The system worked fine thru the burn, was up for 3 days, and then it started giving this error. And now it would not boot up at all, the machine turns ON, everything lights up. No Beeps now, No Display. Things I have done: Changed the PSU Unseated the RAM, tried with just 1 stick at a time reset the CMOS Changed the GPU But No Dice. No Display or POST. The PC would not give any beep codes NOW. Initially it gave a Long and 2 short beeps ( Indicating RAM Issue) So I checked all that, but now I cant even get it to post, or give any beeps. Have not been able to figure out what the heck is wrong.

Should I upgrade from X470 to X570 for R9 5900x?
The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
So I did it... Actually did not remove anything from the C Drive, just plunked it in the new MB, with the 5900X. Windows took care of itself.. it seems, plugged my other 3 HD,s in and it seems like nothing ever changed. The OS, works, the other 3 drives are where they need to be by themselves, the Games drive work, Virtual Machines run( they are installed on a separate NVMe drive), and the Data storage drive also has the right drive letters and paths to all the installed applications. The only Issue I had was with the Freaking RealTek Audio drivers, but that got solved as well. So, in my experience, I moved the CPU, and all the HD's and the RAM to the New MB and everything seems to be working just fine for now. It was a scary Move though.... this being my only work horse machine, I was really anxious about the move, but in the end it seems everything worked out. (PS: I did install all SW for this MB) -
Should I upgrade from X470 to X570 for R9 5900x?
The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Well, I just couldn't resist a deal on ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming ATX Motherboard- PCIe 4.0, Aura Sync RGB Lighting, 2.5 Gbps and Intel Gigabit LAN, WIFI 6 (802.11Ax), Dual M.2 Heatsinks (New) I just had to pay Shipping: $ 11.28, so now I will get that MB tomorrow.( Amazon Price was $329) Question: Can I just replant the OS NVMe from the x470 +5900X build to x570+5900X build? I tried to find online but no one is talking about Win10, but just Win7 Has anyone done it? Any help would be appreciated. -
Should I upgrade from X470 to X570 for R9 5900x?
The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Wifey does video editing, and the usual Photoshop work. I use it basically for gaming/ VM's for software testing. The 5900X was an after thought, I had upgraded from 2700x to 5800x on the same x470, but the Noctua D15 was not able to get the 5800X temps in control, so it was either spend $200+ on a good Liquid cooler... Or Go to 5900x The money was about the same either way... so.. I went the 5900x way and the D15 is absolutely doing fine with the temps.... -

Thanks ! Was probably not a stupid question, but I appreciate the information. I will look into this and see what fits best. From what you have been saying, B550 look to be better boards, I will follow your advise and let you know. -

The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I am technical, but Not HardCore like some of you guys... Can someone who understands this a lot better guide me? CPU: 5900X PSU: NZXT C750 - NP-C750M - 750 Watt PSU - 80+ Gold Certified RAM:64 GB Noctua Cooler D15 What B550's would be best? What x570's would be best? remember I would probably need the Bios FlashBack option. And I am an ASUS house... for some reason, I have been buying ASUS MB's, GPU's, Laptops and all... But this is not a must if the MB is great. 2 x LAN ports would be great if I can get them. -
Should I upgrade from X470 to X570 for R9 5900x?
The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Another thing, I guess I have a limited scope of MB's as I would need a MB that has the Bios Flash back option on it. As I have the 5900x, and the 2700x is already placed in my Son's system.. so the options are kind of limited.... Is there a way to update the bios on NON FB MB's without an older CPU? -

No lofty OC goals, at 4.2GHz, the PC does everything just fine, I OC'd the RAM to run @ 3000 Hz though and the system is stable. -

Should I upgrade from X470 to X570 for R9 5900x?
The_Geek replied to The_Geek's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I did OC the CPU a bit, only to 4.2 GHz, and the idle temps are in the 30's and under CB23, they went up to 81. So that I would presume is not an issue, I am just thinking since I upgraded the CPU, maybe I should upgrade the MB as well. Although the x470 is working just fine, no issues so far, gaming is great, VM's are running like a charm. So no real need to upgrade, but it's just like an itch that has been bothering me....LOL -

Thanks for the input, I had been considering the B550, but watching a ton of YT clips, came to realize that the x570 was somehow better that the B550. I will not be upgrading any of the NVMe's (2) abd SSD's (2) that are in my current system, and I believe they are PCI-e 3 standard as it is... I am seriously going to look into the B550's now. -
If you are not planning to overclock the CPU( no idea if you even can with the 3600) you should be fine with the stock cooler.
