  1. So there are a couple options for pcie. Either 16x, 8x + 8x, or 4x + 4x + 4x. Is there any way that I can get 8x + 4x + 4x? Would I need to install a custom bios or is there anything simpler?
  2. I want to use my rx 570 in 4x configuration (pcie 3.0). Will I get any substantial performance losses (I am on 8x right now)?
  3. Thank you so much for this. This is actually really helpful!
  4. Yea it probably is but it's a lot cheaper to host a vm myself. For me it's worth the ping.
  5. No I mean to host the vpn on my own virtual private server and I would be the only one hosting it. I would simply pay for the lowest specs of a vm so I could host something like openvpn on it. Using a public vpn would be a very bad idea.
  6. I have a game server that I want to host, but I don't want everyone to know my home's ip address. Is there anyway to get a virtual private machine and vpn to my own network, forward the ip and port from the game server so that people can use the vps's public ip to connect to the game server instead of using my own public ip?
  7. I have used a Motorola droid turbo, Moto z force, and Moto z2 play. All of them after about 6-7 months have started freezing and lagging. I doubt it's the battery because the usage on the phones was very light and the battery life still held up, but the phones always just froze at times when doing basic things. Is there something with Motorola devices that causes this to happen? Also, factory reseting the device will only fix the problem for about 3-4 weeks and then it would keep happening again even if I installed different apps.
  8. I want to buy 7 wd dc 4tb drives and I found them new or open box on ebay for a pretty good price. I'm wondering if I should buy a couple hard drives here and there and get a couple of good deals or if I should just wait and buy them all in bulk at once. I have about half a year of time to buy these hard drives so I'm not sure what I should do.
  9. I have a project that has posts and you can sort of like a post which is a user's explicit rating of the post. Are there any good recommendations gems that are still being maintained? If there are any good ones, are there any gems that can use an ai neural network (like youtube's recommendation) to base their recommendations (I know it's overkill)?
  10. It's a 4 post rack so it's open. But I would need another psu for the graphics card and the pcie extenders would cost me a lot of money and honestly I think it would be more worth it just to buy a 2u server and put a dual slot quadro/tesla in it.
  11. I don't have that but I do have an old switch that I can scrap everything out of it and put the gpu in it.
  12. I could build an enclosure for that. Not a bad idea though! I have more Us available above the server.
  13. The server itself is a dell r620 10 bay. It has 3 16x pcie slots, and I am using 1 of them right now. I could potentially extend it to reach over to the next slot as they are pretty close together and make it non low profile, but I would have to take off the bracket of the gpu. See the image for where I would put this. I also have a dell r610 and it's not low profile (still single slot), but it's only 8x. I could try and remove the back of the slot to make a 16x graphic card, but I am probably gonna sell the server in a few months so I don't really want to do that and trying to fit a 8x to 16x connector in a small spot would be hard.
  14. It's inside a server on a rack so that would be kind of difficult to put it into an enclosure.
  15. I'm not saying that it should cost $800, I'm just saying that it's my max (in case there is some kind of weird quadro card).
  16. I have a 1u server and I want to put a graphics card in it. What is the best low profile, single slot graphics card that I can buy ($800 Max)? I only have one 8 pin available. Edit: I'm fine with passively cooled graphic cards as well and quadro/tesla cards as long as they fit.
  17. No it will not damage your gpu. The worst that can happen is you damage your monitor.
  18. I actually do like gnome but I had to switch to KDE because I read somewhere that the stuttering of cs:go was because of the gnome version and it did fix my game. For me, I have gotten cod bo 3, gta 5, rocket league, and csgo to work so far pretty well. I haven't tested too many games though.
  19. I already enjoy using libreoffice, I always used davinci, gimp is close enough to photoshop, and I don't really use illustrator, so I should be good. I've actually heard of Popos, but it was in the back of my head somewhere. I am currently using Ubuntu now and I enjoy it a lot more than Windows. I'm currently using Plasma by kde because I found that GNOME makes my cs:go very choppy and unplayable, but I do want to get to the macOS feel if I possibly can.
  20. I have switched over to Linux now and I don't think I'm gonna switch back for a very long time. I formatted my main drive and my game drive in ext4, but left the other 2.5tb in ntfs (as changing that format will take too long). I don't exactly want Linux to look a lot like Windows 10, I kind of want to go for that macOS vibe.
  21. I think it might be possible. I'm not sure how to do it myself, but this wiki may help.
  22. Yea libreoffice is really good. I never really used office 365 or the adobe suite. It's just that I use XCode, but I can easily either just use an actual mac or put macOS inside a virtual machine.
  23. And then you have another 4 lanes dedicated for the two m.2s that he has on the motherboard, so you would have to split the gpu's lanes in 8x so it can provide 4x to the pcie card for the extra m.2s.
