  1. Sounds like some good advice on not over engineering a solution. I think Ill stick to the simple switch I have. I cant think how the card would work in the actual setup either as im using two vertical GPU's so an extra PCI card wont really work anyway. Thanks again.
  2. I have a seperate switch allready but was hoping to make my setup that little bit cleaner with one less cable/device on/around the desk. Ill have a look at this bridge option. Thanks for the tip
  3. Is this even a thing? I have one wall connection and am building a dual system setup and was thinking rather then have a seperate switch, is there such a thing as a PCI switch so i can connect to one computer and then just link down to the other with a short lead. I can find plenty of pci NIC on amazon etc but they dont really say if they can be used in the way im thinking. Anyone got any experience with this sort of setup.
  4. Hi I am doing a new build in a couple weeks and want to move my windows over to the new system. Im pretty sure i have a retail windows license but im not quite sure how to go about moving it from a HDD on current system to an M.2 Drive on the new system. I'm thinking, from my limited knowledge and google skills, that the best way would be to to install the HDD with windows on the new system and boot from that then use software to clone the OS install onto the M.2. Would this be the easiest way to do it?
  5. Seems to have been ok for the last couple days. Only thing is i dont know why! lol Ill call it a win
  6. Not seen any temperatures above 67. Just took card out to check nothing obvious on pins or PCI slot bit and all looks good. Was a good amount of dust over the PSU fan exit grill so might have been that. Took the PSU out to double check it was as purchased (pre build so figured id double check that) It is defo as above. Im gonna see how it goes for tonight and look at the rollback as above if it goes again.
  7. HI I bought one of these last week and it was great for about 4 days. Now i seem to have random crashes. A few times its been during game and just frozen screens (dual monitor setup) and just now the screens went blank but the audio carried on from the seperate speakers. Also for about half an hour one of the screens would flicker on and off several times a minute. I have reset all settings to factory default (I had turned on VSR and Enhanced Sync) I lowered the settings in the game i was playing (division 2). Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with this card. The first few days it was great i was running two instances of Eve online on max settings while having another game trayed. I havent noticed any issues with fan ramp up or heating during the instances ive had the AMD wattman active. I havent changed any bios switch or done any overclocking. The only thing i changed was the fan curve which id set to higher RPM speeds then default so i cant see how that can have made a difference. It seemed to start after I activate3d AMD link in the AMD setting but i turned that off after the first instance several days ago. Just looking for any thoughts or ideas to check. Build below. 1 x ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X HERO - DDR4 ATX Motherboard 1 x Intel i7 8700K 6 Core Coffee Lake CPU 1 x 650W - be quiet Straight Power 11 Full Modular 80+ Gold PSU 1 x 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000MHz 1 x be quiet! Pure Rock Air Cooler 1 x CIT Dark Soul Mid Tower Case 1 x Sapphire Pulse 5700XT 1 x 500GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 NVMe SSD 1 x Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit 1 x 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III Hard Drive
  8. Hi Im currently running a pretty dated rig as my media server. Im looking for an upgrade hoping not to go above £300 more for it. I have a 1050Ti That im moving out of my main rig (due to GPU Upgrade to 5700xt Pulse) I wont have any monitors attached will just teamviewer in when i need to do stuff. Will likely only ever maximum be two devices using the server at a time usually on the same network. Will reuse existing case as its tucked away in the cloak room so not concerned about aesthetics I All ready have Pure Rock Slim Heatsink and Fan Aerocool 500w 80+ Bronze Power supply The GTX 1050 Ti as mentioned above An ATX Case So what im looking for is a motherboard, CPU combo and as my old rig is DDR3, some DDR4 sticks. Not sure how much ram is good will 4 do or should i go 8/16?? I have 3x 2TB HDDS but think it would be good to put the OS on an SSD aswell. May go above the £300 if the extra cash is cost effective. Thanks in advance for the advice :)
  9. Hi Guys Been asked some advice from a family member about a new laptop. Budget approx £600. Main functions will be Flight Radar, a quite heavy database program (ADU), family member is a plane spotter. A bit of music and general youtube viewing, emails all the usual things. I'm thinking a decent CPU but not sure on laptop tech as much as desktop, limited as my knowledge on that is. Current laptop is 9 years old so pretty much anything is an improvement
  10. The tech within professional high end security cameras has come along way In the last 5 years. I think you could easily make a bit of a series just on various CCTV products. NVRs, PoE, bandwith limitations, PoC, high end Analytical systems. In fact I’d really love to see you take apart a Davantis analytical server and hear your thoughts on its hardware and software capabilities.
  11. Yes that done the trick! Thanks for the tip. Was a bit nerve racking removing the bracket on the back but I managed to not destroy the motherboard. Unlike the graphics card that I broke. I removed the fan and heatsink to de-dust it and it stopped working! Thank fully it was only a chep one. Got a new one on (cheap 2GB one) prime and the machine is spot on - sound wise now
  12. I didn’t think to check the back of the board I’ll check when I get home later cheers for the tip!
  13. I have the following motherboard https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04293944 and wanted to change the cooler so i purchased a Pure Rock Slim which says it fits an FM2+ Socket but it doesnt seem to fit on this board. IIts an AMD Processor and doesnt seem to have the surrounding part for the locking mechanism to clip onto. It seems like the intel bracket the cooler comes with lines up nicely with the holes but they arent screws so I couldnt get the cooler fitted in anyway. Am i missing something or can someone recommend a compatible cooler. TIA
  14. Sounds like pretty solid advice there. Ill check those prices in a couple weeks as you suggest. Cheers for all the advice!
  15. Ok reading up on bottle necks makes me think I'm better of selling the 1050ti and sticking with the existing GPU, I think it was an radeon 8570D something and using the 1050ti to fund the basic upgrades
  16. The cpu seems to run super hot 80-90C when doing barely anything so the new cooler should be a big improvement on running noise. The original fan is super loud. Getting the new psu for the PCIe connectors and may do as you suggest and leave the SSD. Looking at the chart I can't find the specific cpu in there but assuming it falls in the 6000 series AMD A8 6500 so think some minor bottlenecking is acceptable. Not looking to run AAA games at high quality. Think it will be mostly used for homework for the kids and maybe The Sims. Maybe upgrade wasn't the best term. Streamlining the current system and allowing use of a redundent part from my main build.
  17. Changing the motherboard seems unnecessary TBH. Not trying to make a great gaming pc. Mainly just looking to spend as minimal as possible to get a better pc for family member and utilise the redundant 1050Ti thinking new cpu cooler-pure rock slim £30 new 500w PSU - £25 as old one is only 180w and doesn’t have PCIe power. then maybe change to a 120 SSD for £25 think those is 3 three things alone will be such an improvement im learning loads about pc parts from this endeavour and am much less apprehensive about playing around with systems now.
  18. No the 1080ti is going in my gaming rig, Maximus X and i7-8700K. But im giving the 1050ti to my sister which is the rig im looking to do some budget upgrades on.
  19. HI So Im upgrading my new gaming rig to a 1080ti very soon and am giving my old 1050ti to my sister who I gave my old pc to. This got me thinking along with the video below that MAYBE i should upgrade some more components and see what I can do with the system. So the system is Motherboard= 2B17 (P0) CPU = AMD A8-6500 GPU =AMD Radeon HD 8570D (Being upgraded to a 1050ti HDD = 1TB So a big thing with this system is the fans are SO LOUD!!! Using Speccy I can see that the CPU is running between 65C and 70C Idle and when doing pretty much anything jumps to 85-90C. So i suspect I need to install some better form of cooling and put some new thermal paste on it. Both things ive not done before but am quite excited to try. What other upgrades do people think I should get? Is the CPU fine as is? Id like to achieve similar results to the below video.
  20. Would the founders edition 1080ti be a better purchase then the ones youve linked? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-11GB-GDDR5X-Founders-Edition/264369076284?epid=24004633263&hash=item3d8d9ff83c:g:G-YAAOSwIsddCr~t There seems to be so many 1080ti options out there 3 fans, 2 fans etc etc
  21. Not looking at that at the moment. Did have a play with MSI Afterburner but put it back to defaults. Not touched the CPU stuff. Im not to confident with that stuff yet so will be doiing a lot more research over time and will eventually do some minor overclocking.
  22. Ok good to know. Also thanks for all the links
  23. Just thinking leave the existing 1050Ti in the system to drive the second monitor for youtube/excel/word etc. But if theres no benefit then I will just give it to my sister and upgrade hers to the 1050ti
  24. So my next question is is there any benefit to leaving the old GPU to drive the second monitor and would this even be something you can do?
  25. I did look at that but the dual screen works better for separation of tasks for me. Also helps the bank balance
