  1. Thank you for the feedback. As a general rule, I create VM backups for Ubuntu, LM, and Zorin on my Synology NAS. I only set up VMs for Windows 10, 11 and Server 2022 for work related testing. When the final ISO release for Ubuntu 24.04, I will create a new virtual machine. I prefer a fresh installation over OS upgrades. I suspect that over the next few months, Ubuntu will be making improvements to performance. Unfortunately, now it appears that the current beta is quite slow in comparison to Ubuntu 22.04 and 23.10.
  2. Ok. I will keep on trying. It might work better once the office Ubuntu 24.04 release comes out on the 25th of this month.
  3. I have an intel i5-10400 (6-core/12 thread) with 32 GB RAM, 1 TB WD ssd, 1 TB WD hard drive, and Nvidia GTX 1650 Super. I am using VMware Workstation Pro 17.5. The host OS is windows 11. I am using Ubuntu 22.04 and 23.10 in VMware. Both work well. For Ubuntu 24.04 Beta ISO, the VM has the following settings. 3 cores/6 threads with 8192 GB RAM. The loading for the beta version loading into the initial setup and gets into the Language options on the installation menu. Thereafter, it thinks endlessly and does not proceed forward. I am unsure if it is an issues with the Ubuntu 24.04 beta version or issues with the latest VMware Workstation Pro 17.5.
  4. I am attempting to install Ubuntu 24.04 Beta on VMware Workstation Pro. The installation is sluggish and does not install properly. Has anyone had a similar issue?! I am unable to find useful information online.
  5. The BIOS update causes the video output to stop. The update came with Windows 11 update. Even after removing the graphics card, the onboard hdmi cable did not work. I visited a computer technician in order to resolve the issue. It was an odd issue. Should I worry about the "Manufacturer programming mode is in unlocked mode"?!
  6. This past week, I had a BIOS update on my HP Pavilion computer in which video output no longer worked as a result. Even with the removal of the video card, the system did not display out. I took the desktop computer to a techician. After a very expensive (close to $200 repair), I now have a video output. The BIOS was reset. Now I have a message at start up stating "Manufacturer programming mode is in unlocked mode" Should I be concerned about this message?!
  7. The monitor has an hdmi and vga cable. My graphics card has display port, hdmi, and dvi port. Would a Displayport (from graphics card) to HDMI port (on monitor) work?! I might have to purchase one.
  8. I cannot find the G-Sync option in the menu. Would I just need to select Vertial Sync?!
  9. I have an Intel i5-10400 with 32 GB RAM and NVIDIA GTX 165 Super. I just purchased a 23.8" HP M24h Monitor with AMD FreeSync capabilities. I have set the monitor to the highest refresh rate at 75 htz and AMD FreeSync enabled in the monitor's setup. I updated Nvidia drivers and Windows 11. In the Nvidia Control Panel, I cannot see the AMD Freesync option. I looked at articles online and I cannot see a viable solution. Does anyone have any suggestions?!
  10. I am getting 60 fps already from most of my games with the 32 GB RAM. The video from Linus Tech Tips seems to focus on very high settings for their comparison. I suspect that the results may vary for medium to high settings. I normally put on medium to high graphics settings in order to increase the fps in my games, including shadow of the tomb raider, GTA 5, Rise of the tomb raider and jedi fallen order. GTA 5 has been around a long time and works well on my old system with a GT 1030. The Vengance RAM of 32 GB (2 x 16 GB sticks) runs at 2133 mhz but are rated at 3200 mhz. I bought a pre-build system as it was one of the easier means of obtaining a PC with gpu during the pandemic. Down the road, I intend to build a new system.
  11. I have an Intel i5-10400 with 32 DDR4 GB RAM running at 2133 mhz and Nvidia GTX 1650 Super. The desktop has 1 - 250 GB nvme SSD, 1 - 1 TB WD nvme SSD on a PCIe x1 card (no PCIe x4 slot on motherboard), and 1 TB WD Sata Harddrive. The system initially came with 12 GB DDR4 RAM running at 2666 Mhz. The motherboard does not have an XMP 2.0 profile available due the proprietary setup from HP. I do not notice a significant impact between the two RAM speeds. The 12 GB (8 + 4 sticks) RAM was slightly more responsive, but hardly noticeable in more daily setup. I upgraded the pc to 32 GB RAM as I like to setup VMs in Hyper-V. However, for gaming, is it better to leave the 12 GB RAM in the system?! The game that I am using are GTA 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Jedi Fallen Order, and alike. I am concerned about using Intel extreme tuning in case that it affects the PC's warranty.
  12. I have an HP Elitebook Folio 9470m 14" laptop with Intel Core i5-3427U (2 core/4 thread), 8 GB RAM, 240 GB Kingston SSD, and 32 GB msata ssd. I am considering on upgrading the Msata drive so that I can set up a dual boot laptop between Windows 10 and a Linux OS, such as Ubuntu or Zorin. I might upgrade the RAM from 8 G to 16 GB RAM. I would appreciated any suggestions on the best options to update an older laptop. I will mainly use for classes at VCC and perhaps Linux. I am using my desktop computer for most of my productivity, including VMs.
  13. Does Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling work in Windows 10 in 2022?! I am trying to find out if there are any significant performance improvements for Nvidia 1000 series graphics cards, such as GT 1030 or GTX 1650 super. I would appreciated feedback from other members about their experiences with this feature.
  14. Unfortunately, the story mode in GTA 5 by the book still has issues. Rockstar support via their website is not helpful.
  15. I reinstalled GTA V. I still come across the same isuse. It just gets stuck in one spot and I cannot advance beyond the mission.
  16. Yes, I did buy it on Steam. I checked the integrity of the game. I still have the same issue.
  17. I am having issues with GTA V. The game freezes After Trevor Tortues mission. I am running the game on: Intel i5-10400 32 GB Vengance RAM at 3200 Mhz Nvidia GTX 1650 Super 250 GB nvme ssd 480 GD Kingston SSD 1 TB WD Sata Harddrive I looked at a few suggestions online, including dropping the resolution to normal on all settings. However, I still have an issue that the game freeze after the first torture session. I would appreciate any suggetions. Thanks
  18. I am using a Kingston A400 SSD for Virtual Machines in Hyper-V and Steam games. I am considering updating the ssd to a Samsung 870 EVO 500GB as it appears to have a faster read/write speed. Does anyone in the forum can provide feedback from experience if it a worthwhile upgrade path.
  19. My primary harddrive is a 250 gb ssd. My second harddrive is a 1 TB WD Sata Harddrive. Will partitioning the sata hard drive make it faster?! I have folders for movies for Plex, virtual machines and documents. I would appreciate the feedback.
  20. I have a HP Pavilion Gaming PC with an Intel i5-10400, 1 250 GB m.2 ssd, 1 TB Toshiba hard drive, 12 GB RAM and Nividia GTX 1650 super. I recently upgraded to 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) Corsair Vengeance RAM. The BIOS does not have the option of enabling XMP 2.0 profile. Is Intel Extreme Tuning Utlitity safe?! Is there a chance that overclocking the RAM would affect the motherboard?!
  21. I have an HP Gaming Pavilion PC with an Intel i5-10400 with 12 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1650 Super, 256 GB SSD, and 1 TB Toshiba Hard drive. I want to tweak the Nvidia Control Panel. The power management is set to Prefer Maximum Power , Texture filtering quality to High Performance, and OpenGL rendering GPU to Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 super. What are the best settings from a GTX 1650 Super for Shader Cache Size?! 1 GB? 5 GB? 10 GB? I use GTA V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Jedi Fallen Order. I would appreciated the feedback.
  22. My system has a max RAM capacity of 32 GB RAM. I want to run 3-4 VMs simultaneously. However, at 12 GB, it is tough. Windows 10 take 4 GB RAM just to run without any applications open. I did a refresh reinstallation to remove bloatware. However, same result.
  23. Thanks for the advise. I only use light gaming. However, the VMS are now more of a focus for me.
  24. I am looking into purchasing either 16 or 32 GB RAM. I am hoping the dual channel mode will improve my overall experience. Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel Kit (2x 8GB) goes for $90.00 CDN. Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Dual Channel Kit (2x 16GB) for $170.00 CDN. I have a 256 GB m.2 SSD and 1 TB Toshiba internal hard drive. I am using an external SSD Kingston 480 GB SSD for my virtual machines. The read and write times are faster on the external ssd over my internal hard drive. I have a Synology DS120j with 1 - 4TB Western Digital Hard drive. At some point, I might upgrade the internal m.2. SSD. However, RAM is my main concern now. I find it difficult to setup a few virtual machine simultaneously with 12 GB RAM.
  25. I am playing games at 1080. I am also doing a lot of Virtual Machines with Hyper-V. I am concerned that with 1 x 8GB RAM stick and 1 x 4 GB RAM stick might slow down my experience. For this reason, I am thinking about upgrading with new RAM sticks for 16 or 32 GB.
