  1. I've been on the window tablet game since XP. The primary issue with 2-in-1s at this point is honestly the hinge. ThinkPads, ime, tend to be the most repairable when the hinge inevitably goes in 4-5 years. That said, just tbh, unless you already use a heavy tablet and know you will continue to, I wouldnt get a 2-in-1. As for reqs in your price range outside of the obvious ones (yogabook and xps 13), ThinkPads do get my req but won't be the biggest bang for the buck. The galaxy books are similar and i dont have experience with how they hold up tbh. I'd almost recomend getting a surface studio after slme of the mega crazy discounts i saw on them over black Friday tbh. Just as a side note, if you plan to ever use the computer on your actual lap I would avoid slates such as the surface and lenovo options as they realy are just way less ergonomic than a normal laptop for that use case.
  2. I did quite a bit more digging and it seems like the x1 gen 11 does support a wide variety of lte cards but unless you spec it with one you aren't guentreed go get the antennas and those are not user installable. I ended up doing a custom spec with a tiny hard drive (cause i store basicaly nothing on my laptop) and the 5g modem for only $50 more than the pre-built spec I was looking at.
  3. Hey Guys, Looking at buying a thinkpad x1 carbon gen 10 or gen 11. I would like to get a mobile plan for my laptop but know nothing about WWAN cards. Should I just get the lenovo 5g one? or am I better off getting one later once im sure it will work with my provider (AT&T) given the 5g one at least doesnt work on verison right now.
  4. I have a smashed up (but working) Sennheiser HE-1 headphone system. Would the team be interested in doing a tear down video of it? TBH Id love to see someone do a full dissection of one but I am no content creator to be able to document it properly doing it myself.
  5. Hey Guys, So I have wanted the "new" X1 Fold 16 since it was announced (despite some complaints I have with the design), but with it looking like its not going to come out I am considering the 9i instead. I know the specs and form factor fit what I want and I dont mind early adoption costs and issues. The problem is, the keyboard without a tack pad is an absolute no-go for me. Further, if possible, Id prefer a stand with adjustable angle that can be used on a lap when open horizontally. Does anyone know if any such accessories exist yet? The keyboard being a significantly bigger issue than the stand. I have tried looking but the SEO on the name of the product is horrible tbh so not sure if I'm just missing something. -Esk
  6. 100% agree. I have a lot of tools, audio gear, and PC gear. all of it is explicitly emanated, recorded, and underwritten on my renters insurance that I pay less than $10/mo for to insure theft of damage of 30k+ of professional tools even before looking at the other stuff. Best part is, you can get policies that cover theft from cars/vans as well. It was a fair PITA to get everything set up because I had to catalogue lots of fairly obscure things (nice wood planes, chisels, special saw blades, hyper specific surveying devices, etc) but it was well well worth the peace of mind and has already paid for its self when I had a table saw stolen out of my van and they didnt even blink to cover it.
  7. Anyone know if there is a specific thread to discuss the WAN show and the changes? I dont see one, but I also dont realy see threads that even kidna seem to fit outside of this one (and even thats a stretch)
  8. Til there is even realy a market for this stuff anymore. Guess I'll look and see what I can get
  9. Bit of a tangent, but a similar question: What do yall do with your old high end gear? I have everything from a fully watercooled skulltrail build (CPU, NB, SB, RAM) with dual GTX 295 H2Os, to a 3930k + bigbang 2 w/ 64GB of ram and quad 7970s (all also water cooled from MB to RAM) that I have moved on from and have 0 idea what to do with.
  10. I'll see if I can find a place to get hands on the latitudes. As for the flex book, the 16:9 with small bezels realy bugs me tbh. I don't mind it on my current laptop cause it sits higher up, but on those it felt super cramped for some reason
  11. Hey Guys, Just looking for a sanity check. I need a laptop for web browsing/word processing/coding (most intensive thing I'm likely to do is play runescape) with at least a 14" screen, a focus on battery life, and that has a good keyboard. I have no real budget fwiw (say sub 4k). Seeing as I dont want to go mac, it seems like the best option is the one gen old thinkpad x1 carbon gen 9. Any reason to not get a 1 gen old laptop given my requirements? FWIW, I am upgrading from a Thinkpad yoga 460 that I am only moving on from cause the battery life is sub 1 hour and the hinge is dieing. I dont expect the keyboard to be as good as it is on this thing (a shame, but I've accepted I cant get that any more), but I want it to be as good as possible given 90% of my computer time is just spent typing.
  12. Are swappable batteries even a think anymore? As for external batteries, I'm open to options that can just do DC to DC since every AC inverter option I know of is massive. That said, is 4-8 hours of a word processing battery life just not a thing on modern laptops?
  13. Hey Guys, Looking to replace my old 2015 or so laptop (thinkpad yoga 14). Honestly, all I really do is word processing, excel, coding, and web browsing, so I dont need much power (most intensive game I will ever play on it is runescape). What I do need though is good battery life. I dont mind needing to charge the computer every night, but I would like to be able to do 4-8 hours of work without needing to plug in. As almost all of this work is typing I also want a top tier keyboard (the keyboard on my yoga 14 is why I even bought the computer for example). Lasttly, I dont want to go below a 14" screen and would probably even prefer stepping up a size if I can do it without murdering battery life (1080p is fine resolution wise though, I just like having two windows side by side). All that said, I dont mind paying for "extra" hardware if its required to get the ergonomics (battery, screen size, keyboard feel) I want. Not budget concerned basically at all, so lets say 3500 USD max (obviously less is better, im just no worried up to that point if its what I need to spend). Now for the elephant, yes I have (and am currently) considered a macbook. I am open to the idea, but tbh, if I can avoid learning a new operating system for a machine that is used maybe 20% of my computer time I would prefer to. I had honestly planned to get the x1 fold 2022 if its battery wasn't abysmal until I saw that the keyboard isnt housed inside and that it hasnt dropped yet (need to buy before EOY for tax purposes). Top contenders so far: * X1 Carbon Gen 10 * XPS 15 (need to try one since im skeptical of keyboard * Framework (just based on premise of it, I realize its 13.5") What else should I look into? It honestly feels like good keyboard + good battery life and not 13" is a tiny cross section of the market from what i can see.
  14. Im currently in the market for a new laptop. Any good resource to check if it supports S0 or not? Cause that could legitimately be a deal breaker for my use case tbh
  15. I need the combo to have a USB port on it that I can plug a thumb drive into. The terminal I'm using only has a single free USB slot to use
