Hello all, I am building out a NAS to use as a photo server but have been finding it hard to nail down a software to use. The goal is to find a solution similar to Apples iCloud and Googles Photos service. The main issue I have been having is finding one that does not require a degree to set-up and finding a solution that has an App that works well on IOS and Android hopefully built and maintained by the same developers. I am not a novice to using these systems but am just shy of competent using Linux and NAS software. My current NAS setup is X2 Asustor Lockstor 6 Gen 2 with four 16TB Exos Drives and two 4TB M.2 drives and the systems are mirrored with hardware, each system backing one up to the other to save a copy of the data. The system I building a i5 13th gen 10 core with 32Gb of Ram in a repurposed desktop running TrueNAS Scale, the goal is to start with a few M.2 drives to hold edited copies of the photos and used the prebuild NAS system for bulk storage for the RAW files. So far I have tried PhotoPrisim which does not have a native app and does not show all the color spaces for wider color gambits in the thumbnails. I have used Aifoto3 from Asustor but that system bogs down since the processor is weak and the App is poor and is not well maintained. I am looking to try NextClouds system next but am unsure how well it works as a dedicated photo server. I have also heard about Immich and PhotoView but have not seen much in terms or real world use and using with mobile. Any info would be great and am open to suggestions.

Hello all. I have a 4090 FE and I noticed that when I put a load on it I hear a terrible whine. Could it be the fans or an internal component. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all! IMG_6015.mov

Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
JacobsPhotography replied to CPotter's topic in LTT Releases
Hello, This is based on the discussion of the video Linus mentions in the WAN show from 11/24/2022. He mentions a sponsored video with SolidWorks designing a home theater cabinet. May I recommend looking into Salamander designs for inspiration or comparison. They focus on high quality home theater cabinets with proper airflow and high customization. Based on the pricing their products typically fall in I would be interested to see if you create something comparable at a lower cost. I work with a lot of top end brands and I love when someone can DIY something of equal or better quality or a better experience, Or even products at lower costs that I can recommend to people. Thanks, Jacob -
Hello all, I am looking to upgrade my Synology NAS to a real PC with a GPU for better transcoding. I am not very familiar on how the hardware in the GPU related to plex but I am curious about the new intel graphic cards and I have heard they have excellent transcoding and encoding hardware. I am curious if this would be a good low cost option for a current card when they are all released, or if I am missing the mark all together and I should look into something else all together. Thanks all!

Hello all! I have recently created my first home NAS for Plex and data backup. I have never used a NAS or HDD for one before and I had a few questions about them. My system is a Synology DS920+ with 4 Seagate Exos 14TB Seagate drives split into 2 volumes with two drive each running RAID 1 so each volume has about 12.8TB of space. My question if for these drives I understand they are rated to run 24/7 with little issue and be ok in close proximity to each other however is it safe to turn they system off occasionally when I am out of town? I know with a car the hardest time for the engine is on startup when cold is this also true for HDD's in general or even the Exos line being Helium filled? I want to use the drives as long as possible. Any advise or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks

New Workstation build help

Thanks for the advice. I am hoping if i get enough from my old rig to do 64GB quad channel RAM. Also the reason i do not want to keep my 1080Ti is i know i can get more money for it and i do not use it at all in my current setup my friend who helped me build my first computer pressured me into buying it. -

Is it worth keeping the 1080Ti if i do not game and have GPU acceleration turned off in the adobe systems? -
Hello all! I am looking to upgrade my PC I built last year to a workstation style of computer based on my new photo and video editing workflow using Adobe. I am on a budget so I am looking to supplement the cost by selling my old computer. I would love to take advantage of the great community here and the expertise you all have. I currently use dual 27 Inch LG 27UD69P-W 4K monitors and 4 separate G-Technology USB Type C External Hard Drives for storage. Which I will be keeping the external drives and monitors. My current system consists of: Intel i7 7700K none overclocked MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon MOBO (Hardwired) Corsair H150i AIO 32GB Corsair 3200MHz (4X8GB) MSI GTX 1080Ti Gaming X Trio 11GB EVGA SuperNOVA G3 850W 80+ Gold Fully-Modular Samsung 960 Evo 250GB M.2 WD Black 1TB SATA Seagate Barracuda 4TB SATA My new System that I have put together would consist of: AMD Treadripper 1920X 12 Core Asus PRIME X399-A EATX TR4 MOBO Cooler Master Master Liquid ML360 AIO (360mm) 32GB Corsair 3200MHz (2X16GB) Sapphire Radeon RX VEGA 56 8GB Pulse Thermaltake ToughPower Grand RGB 1200W 80+ Platinum Fully-Modular Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB M.2 WD Black 4TB SATA Lian-Li PC-011 Dynamic (White) ATX Full Tower Case Total cost before tax: $1857 Id love to hear any suggestions and recommendations.
