  1. That's pretty much what I've done with mine. One 8 port PCIe Sata card with FIS compatability allowing it to connect to port multiplier. Works okay for Windows, works great with Unraid and another NAS software I tried.
  2. I do know the frustration of not being able to find a drive that clearly isn't working. Last week I spent ages trying to find a drive labelled SDB on the Dashboard the wasn't appearing in the array, cache or unassigned drives. I ended up having to go through disconnecting and then reconnecting each drive in turn. FInally found the answer was that I'm an idiot and Dashboard list of devices included the docking port built into the case, but not the Esata port right next to it strangely enough..
  3. There are a couple of Unraid apps that will do that for you such as disk speed that will tell you which port it is on motherboard/card and disklocation that allows you to record which drive is where. Generally though when I put a new drive in I make a note of its serial number and then a note of where I put it on a piece of paper I keep on the back of a case panel. As for the ports I use some of those small numbers that used to be used for labelling videos to just give each cable a number. 27 drives and haven't had a problem locating them yet.
  4. I know this is waaay late, but I had a similar problem today that I solved by using the Docker Safe New Perms tool. In my case I had copied some files from an old drive to the array and Unraid appears to have gotten a little mixed up
  5. Just asking because I can imagine causing some damage if wrong: are the usb cables provided for pcie risers just standard male to male usb cables or do they just look like them with slightly different pins?
  6. They should have made it a rule that they had to list every single item used to get their item going... or not working in some case
