  1. Hi all. So long story short. I upgraded my platform, the motherboard I have is STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4. And it only have 3.5mm jack ports (analog?) My old motherboard have optical port, so I used to plug in a toslink directly to my speaker(Vizio V Series V51-H6) I am wondering if I get one of those cheapo usb to optical adapters actually do anything in my setup (eg.better sound quality, lower latency, cleaner sound?). And what I worries the most is does those gadget increase lag? Because I sometimes use it to play games when not wearing my G935, so out of sync sounds is a big no no. uploaded the pics of the adapter I am talking about. Would appreciate any thoughts, experience, suggestions !
  2. Hi all, so basically I have 2 identical SSD and I want to pool them together to be used as steam library and general storage, So far my concerns are: If I go with JBOD/windows storage pool: In my understanding, those are without write balancing? So SSD1 will be completely filled before SSD2 starting to be utilized? If so, it is really bad for speed and longevity of the SSD. If I go raid0: Because I am using it with 10th gen intel. both my drives are connected to the chipset, and will be bottlenecked anyway by DMI. No significant speed benefit but with the cons of double failure rate. And if one drive goes wrong every file is lost. Is there any algrism/software allows me to combine the speed of my 2 SSDs to be recognized as one drive under windows, but also has some sort of write balance (eg. 10 movies copy to the pool, movie 1-5 goes to SSD1, and 6-10 goes to SSD2). So even SSD2 dropped dead. I still have movie 1-5? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi guys, I am really out of idea now, basically my 3080 would not run at x16 no matter what, I was fine before I install a water block on it. My setup: CPU:6800k and Xeon 2620 V3 GPU:3080 Motherboard: Asus X99 A-ii Power supply:Corsair AX860I So far the trouble shooting I did 1. Clean/Reseated the gpu, pcie slot. multiple time. 2.Tried another CPU (Xeon cpu, so pcie lane shouldn't be a problem) 3.Swapped power cable. 4.Looked at bios. Reflash the latest bios, Clear CMOS. 5.When using Xeon 2620 V3, tried all other slot, still showing x8 at any slot So far, when I went into bios, it shows my gpu is running at x8, before even loading the system, so it should not be a windows/driver related issue. I am using an 6800k (28pcie lane), gpu in the first slot, no other devices in pcie slots. From the the PCIE lane illustration, the only time slot 1 going to be x8 is when slot 4 plugged in, Now the interesting things happens, when I actually plug in a x4 PCIE NVME ssd in to slot 4, the bios report my graphics card in slot 1 is running at x4. Much like there is another pcie device hidden somewhere. But in bios, I don't find anything seems related, not sure if it is relevant at all, but I also tried to complete disable SATA, STATA express, USB3.1. DMI, but non of them helped. I do have a M.2 NVME as system drive, directly put in the M.2 Slot, but looks like it is independent from the PCIE slots, and it was fine even few days ago, so I doubt it is the problem I don't have another GPU or mother board to test out, but I think neither is for blame, well at least hardware level. The motherboard did it once though in the past where it shows the exactly same problem when I had a GTX 1080, but it was solved by reseating. REALLY out of ideas now...help please! 4. I am on a 3080, with Nicehash I am getting around 6,7CAD a day, the electricity is fine, ardoun $0.1 per 3hr. Again not trying to make a fortune but just doing overnight and get some change, Didnt know how the next step goes though, once I have some bitcoin in hand.
  5. Yeah, I am using nicehash too, but don't know much about exchange site though, please share your experience when you get down the line.
  6. Hi guys, I am planning on become a part time miner, mining at night or during the pc idle time. I am wondering if there is any platform that directly pay you local currency CAD/USD in return? Sort of like sell my hash power. If not, what is the most efficient way to convert the currency you got to "real" money?, like which wallet, which cashing out platform you guys using?
  7. Budget (including currency): Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: general gaming, multi tasking Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi guys, I built my current X99 system 4 years ago, currently with 6800k OCed to 4.3ghz all core. I know its kind of niche platform but really don't want to ditch my current quad channel 128gb memory, I am wondering any viable options with lets say Xeon out there that are a big enough performance boost in terms of gaming, multitasking and light video editing? Also the ryzen is getting tempting every year, but wondering if there is any known news or plan where the AM4 socket will be retired? don't want jump on a "dead" platform like I did with the x99 lol
  8. I basically download nothing, youtube streaming yeah, but sure about the video cache since the bitrate is all over the place. Nothing fancy about the plugin neither, just adblock, some shopping tool, IDM etc.
  9. I have been using process explorer for a few days now, the most is chrome like 25GB ish and second is iCUE bloware which is like 2GB, scratching my head now. The reason I fixed on the idea of permanent record so much is that take HxTsr.exe for example, probably was an office update, one day I saw it taking my full bandwidth, wrote something like 7GB in like 5 minutes and then just terminate it and disappeared from process monitor. If I wasnt that bored and staring at the explore at that exactly second I would never know. Wondering how many those small pieces comes and go on the fly
  10. yeah but same as op stated. far as I know they all can not record a process if its closed, for example I used my chrome and wrote 1GB to it, but if I closed chrome, this entry will disappeared from the monitoring softwares.
  11. Yeah thanks for the tip, unfortunately it does not record the quantity of the data written, and No I don't have paging file and disabled hibernation. I pretty much tried all the tweaks online, new and old online for reduce writing to disk C but no luck, and if its something I use daily, I guess reinstall windows won't help either.
  12. Hey guys starting recently I noticed my system ssd is writing above 100GB per day, although perhaps acceptable but still wondering which process caused it. I know there are a lot of software out there can show you the I/O written, such as process explorer but as far as I know they all can not record a process if its closed, for example I used my chrome and wrote 1GB to it, but if I closed chrome, this entry will disappeared from the monitoring softwares. In another words, is there a software that can just log and sort every process, terminated or active that has been written to my ssd? Cheers
  13. hey any one remember the waterproof casual shoes in one of the video? was actually thinking it recently but cant find it anywhere
  14. Hi guys, seems no one really talked about this, what's your prefered options to adjust mouse sensitivity? like in windows panel, mouse dpi option etc? and why or any sort of logic reason or referencing? this got to my head because I am messing around the speaker system and at least on the internet people tend to agreed that speaker should be tuned at the speaker knobe( hardware lvl) because any software adjustment ( windows sound control, software volume control )will create compression and distortion so will affect the quality of the audio. Wondering if there is a similar theory for the accuracy of mouse tracking Cheers
  15. Hi guys, I am out of ideas now, probably I didn't use the right phrases but google didn't help much. basically, I am looking for a backup solution that will generate a COMPLETE copy for every X interval. For example, my target folder is ServerA,40BG, and in my backup disk I want to have 2 folder "ServerA on Janurary1ist"40GB, "ServerA on January2nd"40GB, each of them are the same size(assume I didn't change anything), and are ready to run independently at any time . I see that a lot of backup options are just sort of "sync" that is, replace the changed data and adding new data, I am using Goodsync, which can archive old files but you have to replace them back manually to the original location, can't easily rollback changes or new files either.
