Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

Not quite sure you understood the message here from GN. As a viewer who doesn't watch all videos and WAN shows, I had no idea that benchmarking process is still in its infancy and you cannot apparently trust the results. Considering how you were advertising LTT Labs, I was expecting that the results were going to be as accurate as they can get. Was there a disclaimer that these results might not be accurate? No. Also, if you know that they're might not be accurate due to the fact that you have a new testing process in place, why not double/triple/quadruple check your work? "...a work in progress that is very much not done..." is not a valid argument for putting out misleading information to the public. "...that we've communicated needs to be treated as such" then put out a disclaimer before your graphs or something because not everyone follows LTT all the time.

And it kinda baffles me that LTT as seasoned tech reviewers get so much basic info wrong(like the CPU cache one) and this of course leads me into the next paragraph.

Give your employees more time to work on each video. No one is asking you to publish so many videos in a week. I'd much rather have fewer videos but with higher attention to detail. And your employees seem to begging for this. When you see everything as: "This extra work hours will cost me extra xxxx$" and start to push things out the door as is, I think that's a really bad signal that your quality is going downhill.

Like for example videos/projects with Alex in it. It is a total cringefest 95% of the time and I'm not sure it is the fault of Alex but rather time constraints. It is astonishing how many things you cannot seem to do properly with the amount of tools you and your team have available. Often times it seems "oops, got the wrong thing, no time - lets flex tape this shit together and hope we don't kill expensive hardware" or something along these lines. Many of these crazy "science" projects could be so much more interesting and entertaining if done properly...

I have watching you for like 11 years now(off and on but still). For results accuracy for last few years I've been turning to GN because it is just amazing how much attention to detail they give to this rather boring stuff. LTT is starting to feel like Top Gear/Grand Tour. Its supposedly a tech channel but for entertainment. Now when you have started to market yourselves as being extremely accurate and getting so many things wrongs its getting kind of concerning.

There's a lot of decent 1440p 144hz+ IPS monitors out there such as LG 27GL850/27GL83, 27GN800, 27GP850/27GP83, Gigabyte M27Q-P, Asus VG27AQ, Dell S2721DGF, MSI MAG274QRF-QD, Acer Nitro XV272U and several more I missed out.

What are you looking for exactly? Highest refresh rate? Cheapest? Best ergonomics?

For example me and my siblings went with S2721DGF because it was cheapest in my country and I can rotate to portrait mode either way without needing to buy VESA stand.

Well, I was going for 27, 1440p 120hz+ within 400$ and most of these were either not available or had some sort of big con. Anyway, I just checked and somehow one of my local stores got 1 M27Q-P apparently in stock so I ordered it and I'll see if they can actually deliver it.

Also, according to rtings M27Q isn't that bad at native scaling regarding text clarity and not bad at all with cleartype so that would fit me but what's even better news is that apparently M27Q rev 2.0 has RGB pixel layout and should perform just as well so I'll probably just order the M27Q if the P variant isn't available.

It's a bit worse and hardly noticeable. Comparing to VA panel it would definitely be noticeable as they usually have around 1:2500-1:4000 contrast ratio. As for brightness it wouldn't matter, unless you really need to raise up to 100% for a reason.

Generally 27GP850 have better response time compared to M27Q so yes it's worth considering.

Ok...Basically the only 2 decent options are M27Q and 27GP850? Cause everything else I've been looking at seems to be worse than either of these 2.

    18 hours ago, xg32 said:

the LG has better response time and slightly better color coverage, but the contrast is pretty bad, is overall the better monitor would not recommend in a dark room, the m27Q-P is decent at everything.

    https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gp850-b-27gp83b-b

Yeah, This would be a great option however I can't find it in stock anywhere in EU.

The original M27Q has BGR subpixels, that's why it didn't have best text clarity. The updated variant called M27Q-P fixed subpixels to RGB (and other minor upgrades) so it should have ideal text clarity like any other 1440p 27 inch monitors.

Sadly M27Q-P is not available where I live, says out of stock everywhere.

best sub 400 would probably still be the mag274qrf-qd, though if you wish to save a bit, can't go wrong with the m27q-p.

though at current pricing the m27t20 basically gets you the best 27inch panel for 460usd.

The MSI one is more like 500$ in EU and can't find m27t20

    At 27" i'd recommend the LG 27GP850-B.

    At 32" i'd recommend the LG 32GP83B-B.

Both are great monitors so pick your size preference.

Hmm, to me it seems that 27GP850-B seems to be almost worse in everything except for text clarity when compared to M27Q when comparing them in rtings. Like less contrast, less bright etc. Or in reality that wouldn't be noticeable?

  5. So I'm trying to choose a monitor with 400$ budget. My requirements are 1440p, 27-32in, at least 120hz monitor. Main uses are gaming and work(Mostly working with spreadsheets and translating documents). So far googling the best options, it seems that I've landed on GigaByte M27Q however people say that this monitor won't have the best text clarity which kinda makes it problem. Is it really that bad? What other decent options do I have?

  6. 23 minutes ago, Stahlmann said:

Going for OLED really is a game changer. But in your budget, that'll give you a current-gen 42-48" model or a last gen 55" model at best.

If you don't want to spend as much money then have a look at Hisense models. Their mid-range TV's like te U8H are very good.

Also, have a look at this list: The 4 Best 4k TVs Under $1,000 - Winter 2023: Reviews - RTINGS.com

The way i shop for reviews is usually like this.

    - First determine budget and size, then see what model gets you the best image quality.

    - Use sites like RTINGS.com and their lists like "Best TV's under $1000" or "Best 65" TV's" to narrow it down to a few models

    - Look at detailed reviews for these models

.- If i'm still not sure, create a forum thread asking other people about your shortlisted models

    - Buy one

I dunno, Im kinda not pushing for OLED right now. I know it looks great but I'm a little suspicious about the cheaper OLED models as I don't want it get the burn in.

The problem with looking at rtings is that there is way to many tv models or EU just has different naming for some. And I did look at some of the "Best TVs under....". Your technique is not that different from mine. The problem for me with this approach for TV shopping was that a lot of options were left out so that kind of frustrated me.

For your budget and goal of 65 inch, look at the TCL 65" Class 5-Series

I also suggest shopping late q4 into early q1 time as thats when TVs refresh their models, and since TVs are so big and bulky, last year models get discounted hard at big box stores as they want their backroom space for new TVs

Hmm, in EU TCL apparently has a different naming scheme. One that seems to be around my price range is 65P731.

I mean ok, Im not in a hurry to buy a new tv as I have a lot of other expenses for the house this year but I'm just getting annoyed by my current tv right now. So not sure if I'll be able to wait for q4 😄

Thanks, these seem to be within my price range. Or at least the Q70 does and it has a more suited stand for me.

every TV i've bought in recent years, aside from one, has been the exact same process (and i've bought quite a few, i'm the "smart person" of choice when my family needs a new TV)

    - determine the required size

    - go to big box store

    - look at TV's

    - buy whatever is there and has the least red flags

why has the one been different? there was a choice between 10 TV's, and only one had a center stand (instead of the little legs on either end) and it needed to go on a smaller TV stand.

buying a TV is an incredibly tedious process of nitpicking differences between douzens of similar-ish models.. unless you just make the choice about other things.

besides that, here's a protip: most big box stores have this greater wall of televisions all displaying the same content... this content usually comes from a carpetbombing of HDMI splitters, so they are basicly all getting the exact same signal at the exact same time.. the ones that are notably behind are the high input latency ones.

oh - and the ones that arent on the same system... usually are overpriced to heck and back.

Well, the issue I have with this approach is that I dont think there aren't that big strores in my country anymore. Like everything has moved online. The have a few TVs but not many on display.

It depends on what qualities you care about. Personally, I look for color accuracy and contrast. If you're a gamer who games on the TV, you might care about pixel response times and refresh rate.

As far as resolution and size 4k is all that you'll ever need and size is dependent on your space/desire. If you can I'd stick with QD-OLED displays as they look the best. The quantum dots give it better color accuracy than previous OLED displays and prevent burn in.

As far as software is concerned, IMHO they're all crap. Just make sure you get something that can handle your content and interface. Though if you ever run into this problem, you can always buy something like a firestick or any brand you desire.

My main TV usage is just watching movies/shows through Jellyfin and most of that is 1080p, occasional YT video. I do 0 gaming on the TV.

  11. Hi,

So I'm looking to buy a tv, preferably 65in, budget max 700-800$. But I started looking and there's like 10 different samsung models alone not to mention other brands. How does one choose a tv? Obviously not all of the are not reviewed so I'm kinda at a loss.

I'd prefer android tv but image quality is more important, can always buy a android stick later. Do you people have any suggestions here? Keep in mind that Im still running a 43in plasma from like 2009 so anything will be an improvement :D

    Thanks!

  12. So I have narrowed it down to 3 options:

    • B550 Aorus Elite V2 - 116euros
    • B550 MSI Gaming Plus - 120euros
    • B550 MSI Tomahawk - 150e locally

I will be running 5800x so from VRM standpoint I guess it doesn't matter that much? Its hard to OC it anyway since the damn thing runs ridiculously hot in stock form. I really I don't have a use for 2.5g ethernet ports however the Gaming Plus has ALC897 vs ALC1200 on other 2 boards so I think personally that's driving me away from the gaming plus. However recently a lot of people have said to avoid GigaByte stuff so I don't know. I kinda don't want to spend more than I need to so I'm unsure whether the Tomahawk is worth the extra 30 euros. I could get it for 130e from poland but thats 400km problem if I need to RMA it.

So which one should I buy? Are there any other alternatives to this price point?

    Bigger, but good looking:
    Fractal Design Torrent Compact
    NZXT H510 Flow
    Phanteks P300a

mATX max. but old: Meshify C Mini Dark Tempered Glass — Fractal Design (fractal-design.com)

Thanks, had forgotten about the C Mini. Seems like a decent choice.

Lian Li O11 Air Mini is a good option. It techncally is a full sized ATX but you can change it to an mATX case pretty easily.

Thanks, Looks really good. Little on the expensive side for me but I'll keep it in mind

  14. Since I just got a 5800x to replace my 3600x and I'm gonna build a "new" pc for my sis around the 3600x and my old mobo(B450m mortar max) I'm looking for a decent looking mini tower/mATX case. I kinda don't want to get a mid tower/atx case cause I believe it looks a little stupid. Either needs to be mesh or glass front cause she likes rgb stuff.

Also there's kinda option B if I don't find any matx cases I like - Give her my current https://genesis-zone.com/product/irid-503-argb case and get myself b550 atx board and case.

    Welcome to AMD Drivers.

Have you tried using displayport for both monitors instead of one displayport one HDMI

Searching on google it appears that Nvidia has had similiar problems 😄

uhh, I don't have 2 DP cables, only one. However, none of the monitors work in windows on DP with the drivers installed.

  16. Ok, so I am getting quite frustrated and mad at manufacturers for using the stupid displayport so much because it appears that it's causing quite a lot of trouble.

I upgraded from R9 280x to 5500XT and the GPU has 3xDP and 1xHDMI ports. I have 2 monitors. One is connected using a regular HDMI port and it works. The other one is connected using DisplayPort ->DVI cable because the monitor is old.

The monitor on HDMI only works in windows when the drivers are installed.

The monitor on DisplayPort works in BIOS, windows boot screen and when the GPU drivers are NOT installed. They never work together. When the drivers are installed, windows only detects one monitor. I have been trying countless solutions found on google but none of them work. The only thing I quite have not tried is to reinstall windows in UEFI mode because for some reason the bios was defaulted to CSM and I installed windows that way. Uninstalled old drivers using DDU in safe mode and installed newest drivers found on AMD website...

    Anyone got any other solutions?
