  1. I think WAN should happen but in the beginning they should say that GN and Madison are off limits for the entire show, because they already responded Wednesday and nothing has changed yet in the 2 days since.
  2. He addressed it at length on a recent WAN: https://www.youtube.com/live/rnIeknursww?feature=share&t=4414 I was thinking about that discussion through the whole GN video. I don't think GN saw this particular WAN discussion before making the vid.
  3. All this bluster got me curious and I checked out the video in question. I don't have a problem with anything in the video per se, but I do think that the included warranty on eBay Refurbished is the main point of the program. That warranty is just an Allstate (extended) warranty, this company is responsible for most of the extended warranties sold in the marketplace. I can tell you that I've dealt with that company once and they denied my claim that I thought was perfectly valid, the most I could convince them to do is refund the premium I paid to purchase the warranty. I'd really like Allstate to get a secret shopper treatment, because I don't think they would do well.
  4. Looking forward to Linus closing out of both Twitch and FP chats to avoid the callouts
  5. I Am Not A Lawyer (I suspect neither are you) but if you're saying LMG has a defamation claim against GN, I doubt it. LMG constitutes a public figure, and for a statement to be defamatory, it first of all has to be false, and second of all, if it is false, it must have been presented with actual malice or reckless disregard to the truth. I don't even know what LMG would accuse from GN's video of being false. I think most of the factual points are things Linus has admitted.
  6. I agree with most of what Steve said in his video. But it rings hollow to me that he dunks on LTT for taking sponsorship from Asus and for investing in Framework meanwhile reviewing laptops for other brands. Steve often runs baked-in ads on his own content for product categories he reviews. He's very clear that he has to test the product and believe it's good before he accepts ads featuring that product, and I believe him (I would assume LTT does this too). But despite running ads for cases like the Lian Li O11D, he doesn't exactly rub it in your face that that type of sponsorship exists on all of his case review videos. And even though I've never seen him run an ad for a case on the same video as a case review, by the logic Steve is projecting onto LTT, it's already a conflict of interest for him to review cases at all or to not disclose it up front in every case review. I'm not actually arguing that how GN does this is a problem, I think the way Steve does it is pretty okay and is on the same level as LTT reviewing laptops from brands other than Framework. It would be better if GN only took sponsor deals from product segments he does not review, e.g. mice and keyboards, and even better still if he didn't accept deals from brands that overlap products he reviews, e.g. no Asus, MSI, Dell, Noctua, etc. brand deals for keyboards and mice. But being that strict isn't very realistic when it comes to paying the bills, and GN is probably nowhere near LTT being able to literally give brands the middle finger thanks to their own store sales. Still, it's really hypocritical for Steve to take shots at LTT for this. I'm also not totally on board with the remark that the WAN show reaction to Asus's beta BIOS situation was soft. On that WAN show they did get a response, although only in private, and I feel like they handled it the same way they would have if Asus wasn't a sponsor of LTX. It's super lame that Asus didn't provide that same response to GN, but I don't find fault with Linus here. I agree with everyone who said they softballed Asus on the sponsor secret shopper video though. When Dell did similar stuff, Linus was a lot harder on Dell.
  7. Check what I posted 2 posts up, you had the same problem as me. Ivy Bridge and earlier will not support the switchable GPU no matter how hard you try.
  8. Little update, I ended up buying from the original Taobao link for the Gigabyte card through Superbuy.com which went pretty well, cost me $27 for the EMS shipping (which must include their markup for labor since there's no other place they could collect it). I got the exact card Linus got, it was very dusty and had a long history of mining. I installed it in my old (but still decently snappy) 3770K system. For some reason the card refused to show up as a high-performance processor even though I did everything right. Here's the solution I found after more digging (it was bad news): My first problem was trying to do this in Win8.1 which is what my old PC had on it, don't bother, you need 10. I tried again with 10, and I could see the screen where you could choose the High Performance GPU, but P106 never appeared there. After trying so many things, I found the post by Alenfox on the other thread about these P106es and got the answer that my CPU simply could not support the switchable GPU feature. Not to be deterred I built a system around a Coffee Lake CPU and when I did that, I basically did exactly what they did in the video and got the same results. I have the computer hooked up to a 1680x1050 monitor so maybe that's not so challenging but the P106 puts out what looks like smooth 60fps with no stutter running GTAV. (I did run a control test because I was curious if "Intel UHD 630" was any better than their integrated graphics used to be... and no, it's total crap.) Would I recommend it? No, at least not unless you have a compatible CPU and mobo laying around. It means you have to buy a high end CPU, which is also in short supply and you're paying a little bit above MSRP for currently, to have a switchable integrated GPU. I suppose a Coffee Lake i5 or i3 (even celeron, pentium?) would work but that wasn't an option I would accept considering that would mean going out and buying a new CPU with less power than my old 3770K! There is one situation where this card might be handy and that's if you've got a low profile system like a mATX or ITX, and wanted to install a good gaming GPU, since good low profile GPUs basically don't exist, you could do the P106 with this integrated graphics passthrough and use the outputs on the I/O shield, no need for any full height bays at all. If the card doesn't fit in the case plugged into PCIe, a flexible riser will fix that. Also use my WCP watermark editor if you are tired of being reminded you are in test mode on the desktop.
  9. I'd really like to try this but taobao does not allow shipping to USA. Google Translate says the error is "According to relevant local laws and regulations and Taobao policy, this product cannot be shipped to your country or region." Is there a trustworthy forwarding service in China similar to Tenso in Japan?
