  1. I tried to use the media creation tool, but since it defaults to the latest version of windows, I couldn't. 2004 wasn't working properly. I detailed this in the post I copied at the beginning. Also I ran memtest86 and it completed it with 4 passes.
  2. I don't really have access to any other parts, so I'm not sure how I an test these. I'm pretty sure the gpu is fine, but not so much the PSU. Do you have any recommendation on how I can test the PSU?
  3. I reformated the drive as NTFS, but I used rufus to write to the drive anyway so I think it reformated it for me. As for the partition scheme, I used MBR because GPT was not working at all.
  4. This is a followup of a recent problem I had, details here: Here is a quick summary though. Essentially I had problems installing a fresh version of windows, and it turned the latest versions of windows (2004, 1909, down to 1709) did not work at all. I eventually fixed this by manually writing an iso file of windows version 1703 (about 3 years old now, i believe) to a usb, and then installing that. There were still some BSODs during that install, but in the end it worked out. In the end I had a (mostly) working PC on windows 1703. However, here is my system: 3700X, 2080 super, Asus x570 tuf gaming plus Mobo, Seagate barracuda 2 tb HDD, Crucial P1 nvme ssd, Gskill ripjaws 5 3600 2x8gb, AG apexgaming 80+ gold 750 watt psu, (Lian li lancool case) Because the version of windows was so old, my 2080 super was not detected at all. So I had to update windows. I went straight to windows version 1903, and there seemed to be no problems. But when windows automatically updated to version 1909, things started happening. I am now getting seemingly random BSODs, and sometimes windows tells me that it will restart in one minute, and I can't do anything to stop that. I have linked the report files and the sysnative files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QKL2Iio5bF-Yiy9Z5p4lGcoq7qtRsBGX?usp=sharing If this is a driver problem, it would have to be with the PCI Device drivers, since I have no idea what they do or how to update them. If this is not a driver problem, then maybe something from my previous post could have affected this. Any help is appreciated!
  5. @Bombastinator I think you are right, but I'm not sure how to test it. When I ran chkdsk, I don't believe it found any problems. Right now I am trying to figure out how to get past the "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed." error. I might also try booting from my HDD instead of my SSD and see if that changes anything.
  6. 3 days ago I finished assembling my first PC build! I was super excited when I got it to POST. However, when I try to boot windows from USB, BSODs occur seemingly at random at different steps of the windows setup. Here is my system: 3700X, 2080 super, Asus x570 tuf gaming plus Mobo, Seagate barracuda 2 tb HDD, Crucial P1 nvme ssd, Gskill ripjaws 5 3600 2x8gb, AG apexgaming 80+ gold 750 watt psu, (Lian li lancool case) Here is what normally happens: I go into my bios and select the USB partition with windows as the first option to boot. Then I restart, and let windows load. Here is the first place where a BSOD happens, and it happens here most often. Specifically it BSODs when the dots start spinning in a circle. The error message is different every time, but I see Service System Exception most often. If it doesn't crash there, I get the purple screen asking to set up windows. I follow the steps, selecting the version of windows and putting in my activation key. Then it asks which drive to install windows to. It has crashed at this moment twice now, the first time after I clicked "next" to install windows, and the other time when I was deleting partitions that were only partially downloaded. Finally, if I get through choosing where I want windows installed, the installation begins. The final place where my pc crashes is when the progress bar for "Getting files ready for installation" happens. I have not been able to get past that point. Note: every time it crashes, it is a different error. Also, sometimes I see different messages, sometimes with percentage till restart, sometimes without MY TROUBLESHOOTING ATTEMPTS: At first I thought it was my RAM, but I ran memtest86 and it completed it with 4 passes. I then updated my mobo bios, and no change. I doubt my CPU or GPU are the problem, they show up in bios. I believe my SSD and hard drives are good. I am able to download things to them from command prompt, and I can see them both with diskpart. I thought it might be my flash drive, which is a SanDisk 128 gb USB type a drive, but I tried it on another 16gb drive and that didn't work either. Both times I used the windows media creation tool, and the windows version was 2004. I also tried it with version 1909 and I was able to get it past the "Getting files ready for installation," but then it went to a popup window saying: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed." Note: i tried shift+f10 but it did not let me go into the command prompt. That leaves 2 sources of error: the Mobo and the PSU. I know that my PSU is not name brand, so maybe there is something wrong with the PSU. That would explain why the installation is so unstable and why BSODs would happen randomly. However the system seems to run fine when I wasn't installing windows or Ubuntu. I don’t think the PSU is failing to deliver enough power. Also, I tried booting Ubuntu, and that failed as well. My monitor had a bunch of artifacts and numbers when I tried to boot it. With the MOBO, I have no idea how I would troubleshoot it. Every so often I am able to get to the windows troubleshooting page, but when I try "Startup Repair," it says windows could not fix anything. From the same page I can access the command prompt. From command prompt I ran chkdsk /r /f and went through that process, but that didn't work. I also ran sfc /scannow and went through the verification process, but that didn't work either. Any help with this troubleshooting would be appreciated! Update: I was just able to download windows to my ssd, but at the very last moment when windows was setting up on its own, it crashed. Now I am consistently getting the "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed." every time. I tried unplugging my HDD, but that doesn't change anything.
  7. I eventually just ended up resetting my computer after backing it up and installing thunderbolt legacy drivers and now it works. Although now the custom changes I made to my computer are gone, so I have to redo those.
  8. Yes, I've m.ade sure all of my laptop drivers and bios are updated
  9. I've had an Aorus 1080 gaming box for the past year, and originally had a lot of trouble setting it up, but after installing the thunderbolt software and controller it was more or less working. However, many times it just would not connect to my computer and many times it was just unreliable. Now, it just straight up does not connect, and has not for the past 4 days. I have it connected to a Dell XPS 13 9370 with PCIe 4x and an i7 processor. What I first tried is updating all the drivers, but it says they are all up to date. I don't know what this means, but it says "15d2" for the version. When I go into device manager, the thunderbolt controller gives me the error code 10, saying that the drivers are not updated, but when I go to update, it says it is fully updated. When I plug the thunderbolt cable into my computer it starts charging. I also know that my computer detects a thunderbolt dock is there, but from there it doesn't know what to do. Can anyone help me with this? I am feeling incredibly frustrated searching Dell's support page. Thanks!
  10. I just got a second-hand Aorus Gaming Box with a GTX 1080 inside it, and when I tried plugging it into my Dell XPS 13 9370, the computer didn't detect it. I noticed that my computer started to charge, but that was it. I went to see if there was anything wrong with the thunderbolt ports, and when I found the Thunderbolt Software app and tried to open it, it stated "Thunderboltservice cannot be found in Services. Please reinstall the Thunderbolt service package. I tried downloading thunderbolt software online, but when I did, it said "Newer version already installed." Here are the specs of my computer: - Windows 10 64-bit - Dell XPS 13 9370 - i7-8550U - BIOS: Dell Inc. 1.6.3, 11/4/2018 Also, I have a keyboard and mouse connected to the GPU, and when I press space, the LEDs in the enclosure light up for a few seconds and then disappear. The fans also turn on when I plug the thunderbolt cable into the computer. I know The GPU works because I tested it on a Macbook pro. If anyone could help out, that would be great!
